The Chinese-built Chancay megaport in Peru is set to become one of the main trade routes between South America and Asia. A representative from the company building it, Cosco Shipping, called it the “gateway to Asia” in a press conference on August 22, 2023. Located about 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Lima, construc tion began in 2011 and a first stage is expected to conclude at the end of 2024 with entry allowed into four berths. The project has cost an estimated US$1.3 billion.

With $35B in trade annually, $1.3B can be repaid in no time. Trade will be even more when the port is completed.
It is only the beginning. They are already preparing to build railways connecting other cities of Peru (which will export their products through Chancay), as well as the Bioceanic railway system connecting Brazil's Atlantic coast and its main producing cities along Brazil up to the megaport in Chancay, Peru.
Its time for South Ameican countris to shine.

When i hear about these big projects, i am always amazed how relatively cheap it is compared to how such big projects would cost in the west or if done by western companies...
Cheaper on a few account - China had built the most advanced ports in the last tens years than any G7 nations or G7 in total. Germany had difficulty completing an airport it wanted.
The engineering personnel from China are paid only a fraction of what engineers are paid in the West .
They also teach the technologies and technique to locals, this is the reason why they were warmly welcomed by developing countries.
Japan lost to China for the project of building fast train in Indonesia because of this.
High Labour Skills Cost, Material Cost and Deadline Speed Delivery overwhelmed Americans construction companies can't compete.

Hambantota port was recommened to be leased out by a Canadian development agency advising the Sri Lanka govt to free up capital to pay off expensive IMF debt. Only the Chinese were willing to make a bid. It was NOT to repay any Chinese loan. This was researched and documented by the economist Deborah Brautigam. Google the article "The Chinese ‘Debt Trap’ Is a Myth By Deborah Brautigam and Meg Rithmire". It's on the Atlantic journal website.
