My question is: What is the best way to improve String Accuracy. I consider myself an intermediate player but I've mostly played Rhythm and want to improve my Lead playing. I go for the second string and hit the third string, etc. SO Frustrated, Help!

    Hi, Nate, just wanted to say thank you! Your lessons are really a blessing. I've been playing the guitar for two months and felt really frustrated, as I had problems with strumming and correct posture. Then I came across your videos one week ago and feel really inspired and motivated. Everything is very clear and logical. I really see a lot of improvement in my performance! I am now considering becoming a member on your site, and though the cost is really high for someone from my country (I'm Ukrainian), I believe it will be totally worth its while.

    I came here because I'm looking into detailed explanations of guitar picking methods. This is well done. I'm working on a different idea for picking, that so far I'm not seeing anyone else using. I'm still figuring it out and might do a video like this to explain it at some point. And yeah that "upward" picking angle at 03:53 is something I didn't know about until I started looking at other guitarists picking. It's weird trying that :D

    Once I reached a point in my guitar journey that I became aware of my picking technique, I noticed that I almost exclusively picked *up* when soloing -- i.e. plucking single strings. I don't know why this happened, it's just the way it developed organically, and I've since spent a lot of time unlearning this bad(?) habit. I still have a limited understanding of what I do, hence me watching this video, and many others like it. Kudos to #Guitareo for focusing on the minute stuff!

    Hello brother, I want to thank u cause i really appreciate your approach for teaching guitar lessons. I am not kind a beginner since I've been playing chords on acoustic. But when it comes to play solo on lead as well as acoustic guitar I didn't find any reliable videos to guide and help me. So far I've learned the basic modes (which I've known to be ionian, dorian and blah, blah) covering each of the notes. But now I don't how do I construct a solo (this where I've been stuck). So I am looking forward to your video series and see if that can help out in this regard. Thank you so much.

    • @rougeandrei9095
      @rougeandrei9095 5 лет назад

      I might be late but there's more to constructing solos than just learning some scales and modes. There's a lot of music theory behind it and usually when playing solos u have a backing track that plays chords in a certain key. And your job as a lead is to play notes that can compliment those chords that are being played with the guide of modes and scales.

    I wish there was more in depth explanations of picking technique. It’s pretty easy to pick at medium temps but once you need to start going fast there’s clearly very subtle factors of how you angle your arm/palm/pick to make it work. Especially palm muting while picking fast

    Great educational videos, very well put together.
    Regarding down picking, the likes of Kirk Hammet are major down pickers, most Metallica songs are down picked only, it's very ineffective for sure however it does sound different when down picking only versus picking both ways, maybe it's psychological.
    I guess when learning one should do it properly, after a certain level is attained than he can create his own personal style, even if means down picking only.

    • @MusoraMedia
      @MusoraMedia  9 лет назад +2

    A video I watched told me to pick the strings flat. Not slanted, as a result, a found picking really hard due to the picks hits the strings flatly and gets stuck on the string and causes a lot of friction.
    Question is do I need to adjust the angle of my picking or continue practicing picking the strings at a flat angle and find the sweet spot for it.
    Thank you.

    • @fenderjazzface999

      finger picking is used on acoustic/classical guitar, thou you can use it on electric as well if you like the performance you get,
      --SPOILER--
      it wont work on fast paced songs

    It really sucks to alternate pick with double jointed thumb

    Hi. I'm starting with leads to learn the guitar and after leads I'll step ahead to learn chords..
    M i on the right track?
    Thanks in advance

      I would not suggest learning that way. It's best to start with chords and basic rhythm guitar techniques like strumming and changing between your chords.

    What about finger picking I started with that when I was thought and never really used a pick Iwould like to talk more when you have time

    • @MusoraMedia

      I suggest everyone learn how to use a pick first, then get into fingerpicking. You can email me at nate@guitarlessons.com if you have more questions.

    i have a problem of playing everything with downstrokes and upstrokes doesn't feel right to me ....what can i do to make it right

    • @MusoraMedia
      @MusoraMedia  9 лет назад

      I would isolate the challenges here. By that I mean that I would put aside some time every day to work on just downstrokes and some time to work on just upstrokes. Get them down individually before you really try to put them together.

    Do you really need to use alternate picking to become a good lead player, because I'm more used to down picks when I play. I hope you awnser! =)

    • @MusoraMedia
      @MusoraMedia  8 лет назад

      Yes. Upstrokes are essential to being able to play lead guitar. Just using downstrokes is not an effective way to play guitar.

    Is it technically right to use 'thumb' instead of a pick for picking?

    • @TheMELLOWcheese
      @TheMELLOWcheese 7 лет назад

      Generally no unless you are picking with multiple fingers or you specifically need a different tone for something (not common). It is much less efficient than using a pick and will limit you.

      You shouldn't be getting pain. You may need to go see a physician.

      Sure. If that's the vibe and tone you are going for. It really depends on the style of music you are pursuing.

    What do i do every time my fingers start blistering? every time I try and learn a new song and its solo, my ring finger tips starts to blister and it hurts when I play later on. I wouldn't have that much time to practice and master a song because I gotta wait once a week for my finger to feel better again

    • @ruhenlos6623
      @ruhenlos6623 7 лет назад

      dont wait, its natural, try to shut out the pain and keep playing after a week or so your finger tips will harden and you wil no longer have those problems

      find a metronome (online or a physical old school metronome) find a tempo that you are comfortable with and do the spider excercise with it.
      Dont just stay in your comfort zone however, push yourself with faster tempos and you will cut it :)
