Utilizing Remote Points Properly Using Ansys Mechanical - Lesson 4

- Remote points are used to simplify the behaviour and kinematics of certain portions of the geometry with a single point. They help the user in defining remote boundary conditions like remote displacement and remote force along with elements like joints, springs, beam connections, point masses, moment loads, etc. which simplifies the model by reducing the complexity and hence the focus is only on the geometrical portions of the model that are of primary interest. This course will discuss the proper use of remote points along with the different behaviours of remote points. Benefits of using remote points along with certain aspects which the user must be aware of when using them are discussed.

Thank you for the contents. In general, RBE3 in APDL or Joint in WB is used, when a beam and a surface of solid are connected. Are the methods enough to connect correctly between beam and solid? From the lesson4, I understand difference of DOF between beam and solid is considered through the MPC equation. Could you give me some more details about MPC equation?

how about applying load in different direction wrt the remote point? do we need to promote every time?

why the contact between the levers and the pin is bonded contact? doesn't this mean that they are glued together and can't move relative to each other
I was to ask same question...why use revolute joint and Bond them together??..I think its because we are pulling body along Z axis with zero rotations hence revolute joint does not revolve
@@lewismaina2008 the bonded contact is suppressed, before defining the revolute joint. not sure why they showed bonded at, instead they could have used frictionless contact, to simulate revolute joint.
