I really appreciate that bit at the end about it all just being a bunch of nuts and bolts. I’ve got a project truck that’s been sitting for years. I was always too intimidated to start. Finally got around to it and got her to fire off for the first time. This stuff really isn’t THAT complicated and there’s tons and tons of resources out there for pretty much any project that you want to do. So I say, just do it. Cheers, Jake. Really looking forward to where you go with this build.
Been watching you for 10 years now dude, awesome that you're still going and its still interesting. Especially seeing you completely dismantle your 300L🤯 awesome video❤️
I just googled rumbles ad revenue split and Ill be watching you both on youtube and rumble so we can see more videos like these!! ive been watching for years and I find all of your videos informative and entertaining and as long as this is your job and passion ill continue to support you anyway I can! im in financial hardships at the moment otherwise you could consider me a patreon also, but ill do my best to help out with the ad revenue by watching all ads to the end etc etc. Love your work Jake, keep it up man. Love from the UK!
I removed the engine from my Transalp multiple times just to mock up some stuff and adding the rear engine mount which is also the swingarm pivot point in the frame was a hell of a job
I had a blast taking my klx351 down to frame to have powder coated. Took lots of pictures and videos but kinda wish I went Kwai green instead of high gloss black
I have 2 stroke dirt bikes. Great bikes to learn. Much is analog vs digital. Very easy to make rolling chassis with 2 stroke dirt bike with good ole carburetor and cables. Not much too it. Then you can progress to what Jake did here with a digital bike of the future. Great video as usual!! Thx
Keep up the great videos bud… you are doing an awesome job on that bike. Looking for one myself right now but going to have to save a bit more before I can get back on a bike. Your videos are passing the time a bit easier…
Watching you take everything apart with no hesitation is terrifying! I love watching you put stuff back together though, super confidence inspiring. Keep being a cool funny dude matey!
I can remember (1980) Al Bakers, from Hesperia Ca, XR250R to XR280! It was trick back then! Was that 42-years ago - holy cow, time flies! Actually, would still be as good as these modern Hondas today I reckon. I think those older Honda motors were more durable - held more oil for starters.
I think the most difficult thing for a newbie when doing this kind of thing is diagnosing stuff if it goes wrong at any turn, like why isnt the enging turning over or smt like that, just small thing that are easy to forget
Wow, that's what I call stripped down! That's a lot of work. There is dark paint that changes color at different angles that might be cool. I kind of like the idea of red myself. It depends on the graphics too. Look forward to more on this story!
The wobbly front sprocket with the locking plate instead of the single nut is definitely not just a honda thing. My husky 401 has the same set up as does my old yamaha and alot of other small single cc stuff like rd 125s ect
Honda made the sprocket have that lash to it to dampen the wear on the gearbox itself when you are doing alot of on and off throttle riding such as woods running.
crf250l rally owner here. Regarding the floating front sprocket. Some people have had issues with the splines wearing down over time. I recommend that every time you remove the chain, clean and grease the splines with a good moly waterproof grease. My 250L has 16k on the clock with no appreciable wear on the counter shaft splines by doing this.
My steering neck bearings/races burnt up on my 19’ 250l around 4K miles with very little off road use. Might look into replacing those while it’s out..
Man you're a tiger for work. It was daunting watching you strip it all the while thinking how the hell is he going to put that harness back in. I watched itchy boots two mechanics do an awesome job similar to yours. Better youi than me thats all I can say. You're fricking legend.
The weight savings by removing all that unneeded stuff should be awesome. Ports are usually holes, instead of porting the head, might want to weld up all those holes so nothing leaks out. Glad someone finally realized the dangers of having a radiator between your legs and removed theirs. Lots of radiation coming from those things. Very poor Honda design. Much like the sprockets. I've never been a fan of full break downs with a wiring harness. The Blaster 200 I just did was about the level of effort I'll max at comfortably. With all of that me thinking I'm funny aside, was neat watching a full honda motorcycle dirt bike tear down video on youtube DIY example SEO bump CRF300L Honda dirtbike the best how to. Thanks for the video of a full tear down. Helps to see order of operations other choose when how to fix my dirt bike needs come up. Hope you're doing well man.
@@TheGardenSnake I was entertaining myself and then figured I'd throw keywords in there hoping you'd get more views for the video picked up in more search results. Also, pretty sure there was a compliment in there, and some note about your content being relatable. BOOM! That's how I taco bell, which without capitalization is now a verb.
A white frame is a good option or how about a chrome plated frame I chrome plated the subframe with a white powder coated frame on my 1989 CRF250 looked the business & lasts for ever if done right😊
I'd also love to see a full blown "racing" supermoto trim on this bike. As light as possibile, short gearing, stiffer suspension, ecc... Basically a bare bones version of the 300l.
Good work jake , go retro xr style 👍👍😁 got my old xr400 so I am biased, gunmetal grey be nice on frame. ! Or even white like xr 600 👍 be good whatever you go with .👍
I watched in horror. It would take me a year to put that back together. I'm intimidated by contemplating installing Race Tech's Gold Valve fork update !
Retro would be cool but, i would definitely go with black on the frame, subframe and swingarm just to play it safe. white would be awesome but it's so hard to keep it clean and looking white believe me, living in the desert here and white and black are hard to keep clean but the frame being black, no problem.
The reference to the Itchy Boots counter shaft sprocket wear is something I was wondering about as well, they never actually showed the worn shaft, if I recall correctly, seemed a little premature to me. There is a billet aluminium cush drive hub available for a Dutch company Haan Wheel, pretty expensive and I believe the rim would need to be replaced due to it having 36 spokes.
there is a sprocket that some italians made, called superpinion or something like that, and it grabs better on the shaft and limits play, is not cheap, but the older hondas are known for destroying the sprocket shaft.
You know what’s annoying. It only comes as a pdf now. I asked them if I could buy one and that’s all it is now. Maybe I’ll just have to get that and go to a FedEx store, have them print it, put in a binder.
Bro! You HAD RETRO XR AND SOLD IT!!! just givin ya crap, love watching your videos. I’ve got a very original xr650r that I love wrenching on and cleaning as much as I love riding it.
I noticed the other day the front sprocket on my 400ex wobbled like that, I thought something was going bad. Good to know that’s just a Honda thing lol
I think (not totally sure though) it was the counterbalance shaft, not the shift spindle, that Itchy Boots replaced causing them to dissemble the engine. Not sure how the counterbalance shaft failed.
No it was the out put shaft. I watched that whole thing thinking “ok show the wear up close”. Because I want to see how bad it really was. It was never shown nor did they show it being fixed after the new one was installed. Makes me extremely questionable.
@@TheGardenSnake Ah yes, you're right. I heard wrong when watching. Watching closer now they did show the problem with the countershaft at the end of the video at 22:30 time mark. I've not heard of any unusual problems with the countershaft on that motor. Perhaps someone didn't tighten the bolts down on the sprocket allowing more play than it normally has.
Got a question, I’ve got a stock 300l rally, besides the normal vibration, I get it up to 7500rpms and the motor feels like it going explode, is that normal, why is it doing that, why would anyone get a Ecu tune to 11000 rpm’s ?
That’s odd. Mine seems fine. Maybe your just not used to what it’s like riding a bike at highway speeds. The motor is right under you. You will be aware it’s doing things. You should ride a drz or enduro bike at highway speeds and see how that feels haha. I think you’d change your mind.
Haha that’s just the batteries I got. Forget how it started but once you have one it’s like “might as well keep it going like that”. They work fine though. You should see the comments when I bust out the old black and decker drill 😂. That poor thing won’t die, it’s sure a trooper.
Hey Jake. If u dont mind me asking, how much do u weigh? I want to compare the power of the bike with ur weight. I weigh like 93kg and I am not sure if the bike would work well with my weight.

The retro idea sounds like a winner.

Old school XR theme would be pretty dope, that gets my vote.

Love the retro look of the new race bikes so maybe mimmick that? White frame blue seat and graphics and gold rims would look sweet
White frame and swing arm!
*WHITE FRAME Solid color* What top triple clamp do you got?

You could go dayglow green or yellow on the frame or as the 92 XR colours with white frame.
Waiting to see what you decide on.
Red frame yesh with red yellow plastics and blue seat best xr style back in day imo
I vote fork color. Make the frame dissapear so your eye is drawn to the graphics and plactics.
