Erfreuliche und wunderschöne Interpretation dieses jazzigen und fein komponierten Klavierwerks im rhythmischen Tempo mit klarem doch warmherzigem Anschlag und mit angenehmer Dynamik. Echt faszinierend!
I am in awe how he plays it without ANY errors, especially at this speed! Thank you for this recording! Joshua Rifkin will always be one of my favorites!
The opening 3 bars are extremely challenging for this beginner. Especially trying to get it up to speed. Its a toughy. Im finding I literally have to go totally autopilot and not look down because the left and right hand sequences are very far apart and going by very fast. But, I'm commited to getting it down, because I know that this is one of those rights of passage rags.
It most certainly DOES sound like slow march tempo - if you understand what the term means. In 2/4 time, we feel two beats per measure - 1 & 2 &, 1 & 2 &. etc. The bass notes fall on 1 and 2, and the chords fall on the &s. Since March Tempo is traditionally 120 - 140 Beats Per Measure (BPM), then this performance - at 92 BPM - is indeed a slow march tempo. Slower, in fact, than what is indicated on the sheet music, which is 100 BPM. It would be hard to dance a two-step to it were it much slower.
@@aiden4393 That's probably counting his collaborations and other music that isn't ragtime. He didn't write all that much, his name was also plastered on other tunes he had nothing to do with as far as writing goes

Delightful! Piano rags are not as easy to play as they may look on the score. Mr Rifkin certainly achieves the perfect style. Thanks David.
No, but the nice thing is that once you get the hang of syncopation, they’re relatively easy to play. And great fun too.

Yeah this one looks like one of his harder rags.
Wow, this is like Maple Leaf Rag's evil twin!! The structure is identical
Indeed, I overlayed both of them on top of each other and it worked with minimal dissonance
Gladiolus rag and leola are evil sisters 😈
@@aiden4393 xD
Has some similarities but not the same
@@mysticqueen74 yeah, the reason scott joplin had so many songs similar to the maple leaf rag was because maple leaf rag was a huge success.
FA-BU-LOUS . . . love it ~ thanks !
WOW! This is GREAT! 😂

It's Scribble's Favourite Ragtime Song
Sounds nice! What did you do to the recording during the remastering process I'm curious?
It's a great performance - Rifkin was my introduction to ragtime. However, this really doesn't sound like "slow march tempo!"

Joplin didn't write over 100 pieces, he wrote 36 rags, and there was a few other things he wrote that weren't rags but certainly not 100
???? At his level of virtuosity, there's no telling whathedid. He probably composed 100s of works unpublished. Just to see which ones catch on.
@@marcoevans2155 I don't think so, he has maybe 13 works that have gone missing, his music has been well catalogued.
@@PiotrBarcz I have a Scott Joplin songbook, and it contains over 90 compositions.

@@PiotrBarcz If you dont count the collaborations, probably he wrote some 80 songs.

Tempo sounds a little fast for Rifkin
And a little slow for Joplin. The metronome marking is 100 BPM. Rifkin is playing approximately 92 BPM.
