    Love the video, just thought I would point out pFSense has a menu on the GUI for backing up the config file and then restoring it, it makes life so much more easier, keep up the great work

      @ThomasComputes  Год назад +1

      Yup! That's ultimately how I got my config copied over. Still, I wish I had just put the file on the installation USB in the first place... I guess I'll know for next time

    the dq77kb has ran my opnsense so reliably for years, and just recently got 2 spare back up boards, some spare dimms, another power connector and a x550-t2 10gbe pcie 4x NIC. Now I can really stretch my little pico datacenter :D

    You can try build a fanless pfSense router, there's much tutorial on the internet

    Why not replace 1st SDD, resilver your ZFS pool and then replace 2nd SDD and resilver again?

    Blocking with your hand isn't stupid at all. It keeps the raw video of your screen from becoming a security risk that needs to be in a more secure region of your storage that is at least encrypted.

    • @ThomasComputes
      @ThomasComputes  Год назад

      Pretty good point, I might just use the hand censor exclusively from now on

    I don't care about anything else, PfSense, 1 u rack case, network cards. But I just had to say. Yes on the big red monitor.

    The most controversial part was that you didn't cable manage? I thought using a vacuum instead of an air compressor was pretty bad.
    Love the video though. Just found you through the previous router video, very nice.

    bruh those looked like 4 wire fans. How come you didnt just connect them to the motherboard and set them to a lower speed? I'm guessing its something along the lines of there are no other fan headers or something but eh.

      @@ThomasComputes Thanks bro. I just moved from running a UniFi UDM to pfSense. I have two UniFi access points running so I stuck a UniFi controller on an old raspberry pi I had laying around. Will use the money from selling my UDM to buy a network cab like yours. Keep up the video man, I really enjoy them and makes me wanna start videoing too. Watching all the way from the England 😁

    Yo bro I love the content U definitly deserved my sub , I'd love to use pfsense too tbh but my isp is forcing me to use a really shitty router

    • @seanfitzmaurice1
      @seanfitzmaurice1 Год назад +2

      Anyone can use pfsense - put your shitty ISPs router into bridge mode

    • @ThomasComputes
      @ThomasComputes  Год назад

      Thanks!! And yeah I mean I’ve got AT&T fiber and they verify the MAC address and serial number of the router so there’s no much I can do except force my AT&T box into bridged mode. There’s no such thing as a fair and thoughtful ISP

    Why not use a passive heatsink and 2 nice noctua fans. Make a plastic shroud to pull the air across the heatsink out the back.

    • @ksampler6183
      @ksampler6183 Год назад +1

      Or at least hooked up to a PWM header lmao. He literally just has them hooked up to a Molex connector.

    • @JasonsLabVideos
      @JasonsLabVideos Год назад +1

      @@ksampler6183 true that, also could install lnr adapters. Mines silent and still moving air.

    • @ThomasComputes
      @ThomasComputes  Год назад +1

      Actually a pretty good idea, there's only one fan header on this board is the CPU fan header, but I could definitely borrow the PWM line for the front fans. Still, the sound does keep my demons out

    • @JasonsLabVideos
      @JasonsLabVideos Год назад

      @@ThomasComputes are you sure about that ? What is model of board ?

    • @ThomasComputes
      @ThomasComputes  Год назад

      Had to pull the board out and check, and it does have a chassis fan header! Still, I'll keep it like it is. After several weeks running it like this, I find that the sound level is perfect for me. This technique is super useful though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it find its way into another video.
