  • The Battleship New Jersey is leaving port for the first time in 25 years for major repairs, we were on the scene on March 21, 2024 to witness history aboard the Spirit of Philadelphia as the NJ left her berth under tow and passed the city and the regal S.S United States.
Battleship New Jersey is currently undergoing critical maintenance at the Philadelphia Shipyard to "keep it floating as a museum for another 30 plus years."
The $10 million project includes power washing and sandblasting to remove marine growth and debris; repainting; early warning corrosion system repairs; and inspecting, replacing and welding over more than 160 through-hole openings.
Officials say the most decorated battleship in U.S. history is expected to be back in its Camden dock by the middle of June.

the slow version as they pass the US United States feels so sad, considering what a record that particular ship holds from both the war and its civilian life as a cruise chip

If only they would drydock and fix the hull of the USS Olympia across the river. A tiny vessel in comparison but even more important than the USS New Jersey.
