I've had never heard of Foy Vance, but a couple years ago I ever so luckily stumbled across this cover of this amazing song. 3 years later I still occasionally listen to this. When I'm in that kind of place where I just need something full of a quiet and soft power in my day, a little bit of comfort. It makes me feel like everything is the world is going to be ok, and I can just relax and be happy. Powerful.
That last verse.. He sings the lines "You stay out drinking late at the bar, see more of your friends than you do your kids. I'd always hoped for better.." - perfectly sung to fit the emotion of the song.
I saw Tracy do this song live, about eight feet in front of her in front row many, many years ago. It was beautiful, this version is no doubt THE best cover of this incredible song....

Exactly! I happened to be at the Blackbox in Belfast for a private concert with this guy I had never heard of before. He played Guiding Light for the first time, and it was, no joke, a religious moment! It was his last song and he walked of the stage and out of the room while he, and we were still all singing the chorus. Then he runs back in and says we all have to keep singing but come into the foyer, so all maybe 100 of us cram into the foyer of the Blackbox singing the chorus to a Guiding light. Goose bumps! Foy became my most favorite musical artist that night, and I have made a point to see him every chance I get, and I send my friends to see him when he plays in their town. Twice in Belfast and twice in Munich. He is amazing, and gives expression to my soul like no other!
He deserves a standing ovation for this one. I really didn't believe anyone was able to do a better cover than original, it feels like a rebirth of the song.Thanks for uploading.
One of the best songwriters i have listened to, he was the best discovery personally at last years hop farm festival, if you you like this you should check out the festival.

To say what everyone is thinking, this cover is better than the original 😏🙃 so much more emotional, intentional... Though I will say it's an easier build when starting from a well laid foundation. Been listening to Foy many years now and never heard this cover before. How is that? This just set the pace for the remainder of my day
