It's interesting that when I posted on Reddit about that movie, the post was immediately removed as being unrelated to BAND-MAID. It seems the admins of BAND-MAID sub-Reddit believe any connection between the song and that movie is a crime. I personally think that the movie and the song ARE connected, though. First of all, the same name. Second, using the 8mm camera, which is a special feature of both the movie and the MV. The movie itself is not so great, but I see a lot of parallels also between Miku's lyrics and the movie's plot.
Definitely check out the live version. The effect is intentional, as others have already stated. Super8mm film stock. Great effect in my opinion, to match the original horror film, 'Rinne'.
What separates Band-Maid from all other bands: strength of songwriting, proliferous creativity, quality and depth of musicianship, unique Individual style & captivating performance, palpable band synergy, expansive soundscape, and consistency of excellence. All of that requires years of long hours of hard work, laser focus, compatibility, and a shipload of talent. Piece of cake! Thx, Jimmy!
"It looks straight out from a VHS ..." You're more right than you think. They want it too look like an old horror movie from 80s. So this is their tribute to the Japanese horror movie "Rinne" (you pronounce it like "dinner" without the "r" = "Dinne"). There are some hints to other horror movies in this song. For example I found at 3:05 Miku play some slide notes who sounds something like the sound effect at the killer scene in Psycho. If you found others please let me know. They allways seem to hide small hints to something when they do a mv.
The only better was the live opening of the Feb 14th, 2021 show, but might be only able to be seen on the dvd that is available with the Domination set. Band-Maid will start a US tour in October, 2022, btw!
Jimmy you see the bit at the top which says "Official video"? That's the bit that gives you a clue the vid was intentionally shot that way. Just saying.🤷♂️😆

Their US tour later this year is nearly sold out, but you might find tickets at a venue you can reach. If you’re in Europe, nothing’s been announced yet but I’m sure they’ll go there next year.
FYI, They're touring in the Fall in the US, Most of the venues sold out withing the first day the tickets were available, but they added several other new venues. I think Washington DC just barely sold out, but I think New Jersey may still have Tickets.
