Great video thanks! I’m just getting back into my garden after a year off with health issues. I’ve been dreaming of this time of the year, your videos give me such encouragement to keep at it thank you.
I do love watching your video`s and the working gardening tips you give so freely. Here in Port Elizabeth South Africa, i have allready planted tomatoes, green beans, carrots, sweetcorn, a variety of lettuce, sweet potatoe, sweet peppers, purple sprouting broccoli, purple cauliflower, onions, butternut and potatoes. My first time attempting growing so many veg in my small home garden. I just love your very neat planters! Take care and happy gardening, greetings from South Africa
Thanks John great video I'm new at gardening I've prepared my garden bed started last year my own compost so I'm going to start putting seeds in hopefully this week I just want to make a start on my vegetable garden 😊🏵️🥦🥬🫑🥕
Great video John- I struggle here in brisbane with Beetroot & had one successful crop of Bolthardy seeds but now you can only buy that variety in seed tape & has failed every time. I will try again but not going to give the new seed variety much space in my garden. I wish we could grow tomatoes in Brisbane during the Spring/Summer but they just seem to fail. Thanks John- Cheers Denise- Geebung Brisbane
Yes, your climate is quite different to ours! Glad to hear you keep trying! Sometimes it can be worth modifying the environment - while we have greenhouse to make it warmer, you may need a shade house to make it cooler!
Hi there. I was just wondering where you got the perennial kale from originally? I have been looking for them since you mentioned they were more resistant to pests but I haven't been able to find them.
I got the seed from my nephew...yes the seed companies don't seem to sell the seed. However it is claimed that true perennial kale (Daubenton Kale) doesn't flower very often...hence the lack of seeds! But my kale does flower regularly - despite having many features of Daubenton Kale - so maybe it's created it's own hybrid?
How do you go with frosts in Tassie? Ive been sowing seeds separately with the idea of planting them later this month, so theyre not susceptible to the last frost that Canberra winter likes to throw in.
Depends on location, but where we live random late frosts can occur till about mid October, but become unlikely after the end of Sept. So anything that is needs soil warmth doesn't go out till the second half of Oct.
I really enjoyed your video 💞 you always give such valuable tips. Planting and harvesting is in full swing here in Brisbane. I usually stop by the end of November and start up again by the end of February while it's super hot 🫑🌶🥒🥕🥔🍆🥦🥬

Have you tried to grow okras (lady finger)?
No. But my wife is considering trying to grow them this season. I would treat them like tomatoes and wait till it warms up.
