Ed Yong communicates well for this community. He doesn't have the illness, but has credibility and begins with empathy instead of bias. Because we are sick with a stigmatized illness, we begin behind the starting line lacking credibility despite our credentials or accomplishments. Thank you, David, for all of your work on our behalf and for platforming Ed.

It's interesting to see the approach in meeting a topic, from Yong, Tuller, to the psychosomatic proponents, as you say it begins with empathy instead of bias.
By large I don't consider my doctors personally at fault for not having been taught about about post-viral illnesses, however their approach, openness and curiosity is their choice, and actively avoiding to pursue patient's experiences and knowledge is their responsibility. Choosing to meet people with humility or humiliation is one's choice.
It's difficult to admit especially in a professional setting that your knowledge is limited, as for the experience of what constitutes as a great doctor, the best doctors I've had openly declared "I don't know what this is, but it's interesting". What better foundation to build onto.

Great interview. Thank you both. Please if possible link the articles in the description. It would help getting understanding to more people. I'm an ME patient of over 25 years. I still cry on the rare occasions I'm met with belief, helpfulness and understanding.

We need Ed Yong to start talking about all the research showing COVID is chronic. This is a very important piece of the puzzle to people with Long COVID regaining their health. Chronic pathogens have been far too often ignored & outright mocked.

That’s not the only research that matters… even if (as in Lyme disease, another postinfectious complex chronic disease ) a small subset of patients will benefit from antivirals/treating persisting infection and we should get more trials going to explore that!
Fixating just on that though? as the be all end all! Is failing to learn from extensive history.

Terrific interview, and on top of that I got to hear Ed say 'bullshit' ☺

The exceptions prove the rule: Although neither David nor Ed have ME or LC, yet they understanding the impact - physically, emotionally, socially - the illnesses and the embedded medical gaslighting have on people living with ME and LC - an understanding usually only known to those with lived experience and their caretakers.

If you are going to have Ed Yong on, which is a service that I thank you for, STOP interrupting him in the middle of a point. Please. It does not add any value.
