It's really good to see what Urien's buff's, nerfs, and combo potential are now, I do play Urien and this is very important to know, so thanks VesperaArcade for doing this good video on Urien, can't wait to see who you do next 🎮
It will also disincentivize your opponents from giving a damn about what you might do on wake-up because they have nothing to fear now. Have you tried it yet?
Small correction. The mirror that got nerfed start-up is the Far mirror (HP+HK). Capcom just has really poor wording as always. The far mirror initial raw activation is now 7F instead of 5F. No change to the faster cancel version. This is meant to nerf his raw Aegis links (like crMK CH confirms in neutral) and punish scenarios, for example against Fireballs.
Honestly the EX Headbutt change makes me *want* to play Urien now since it's basically his SF3 EX Headbutt. Obviously I know the impact of taking away his invincibly but I love a more Urien SF3 combo style.
@@coldspine2490 Correct. No invincibility and for combo extensions and conversations. Between Aegis, EX Headbutt, and multiple Tackles in the corner Urien in 3S is a combo machine. I play(ed) 3S Urien so to see it back as a combo and conversion tool with the extended range and such is neat to see and personally makes me want to invest in Urien now. Though the invincibility will for sure be missed.
Dont forget if he mashed regular or ex headbutt on wakeup its frame 1 airborn so you flip out of whatever combo you were supposed to get hit by, in a game without crush counter and also with parry being a reversal option. @@algorithmicalychallenged.291 Nice try but but the impact of their respective nerfs are not even close.. 😏 Ryu was completely bodied and buried back then as opposed to Urien who still lives to fight another day...😉
I used to main Urien and honestly I feel like most these nerfs are fair. I like that the patch notes called out that nerfing aegis would hurt the draw of the character (and then they nerfed it anyways lol). But getting rid of ex headbutt is a really smart nerf as it forces him to use vshift and vreversal more instead of just relying on the comeback. Furthermore it encourages VT2 where you can spare more vbar so overall they feel like really smart nerfs to me. Feel free to agree or disagree but I think it’s evident the balancing team is putting more thought into the design of the game.
The thing is, as he uses V shift and V reversal for defense purposes, it delays or even misses the opportunity of activating aegis. I guess that's an indirect nerf.
The nerf of ex headbutt is definitely a huge disaster to Urien. Before the update, Urien players can choose to take the risk by using the ex headbutt as counterattack. Now they have no choice but relying on vshift or vreversal.
As a Urien main is sucks that I actually have to learn block strings now, UGH. But no really, I feel like he’s still a great character. Just gotta know the match-up better.
I don't even know why people crying, I main urien and I don't even use ex hb as a reversal, his neutral is still the same just now he can do more dmg with the exhb dmg, at high level no one should be doing exdp anyways but honestly they should remove it for every character

capcom is dumb. instead of nerfing characters. they should just keep buffing characters who need the changes. not nerfing characters. shit is ass backward move and retarded. how tf you balance a game when you buff the other character then nerf others. shit is stupid.
Just played for the first time since the patch and it's awful. It was not fun. If so many characters got so buffed, why was it necessary to nerf Urien so much? Now he's one of the few characters that doesn't have anything that allows him to go through fireballs (if not the only one?), and forget about mix-ups because his opponents now don't have to guess half as much. I used to always be near 60% winrate in the last 100 matches. Dropped almost to 30%. Sure it doesn't help that I just got to Diamond and am playing against much higher level players, but honestly most of them don't seem like they'd be that difficult if I had the tool that forced them to approach me more respectfully, by which I mean they couldn't be pressuring non-stop because they'd risk a ex headbutt to the face. I saw so many openings for it that I could've reacted to, but it's useless now. Sure it adds a hit in the middle of some combos, but it doesn't come close to compensating what he lost. I'm gonna try V-Skill I instead to see if it helps, but I never liked it, so I'll probably either drop Urien or the game entirely.
I main Urien as well... I have noticed V-Skill I to be more useful than V-Skill II post patch. Pre-patch I had only ever used V-Skill II. It honestly isn't that bad, you just have to try a bit harder to not get thrown/pushed into the corner. You can be a bit more lax on conserving meter now also.
Urien is still Godlike imo. He'll just have to find some different combo routes and use the utility of Vskill 1 a bit more. And the head butt jiggles more. Imma definitely watch out for that still.

But it was a move that costed meter to avoid fireballs, while most characters has meterless moves than either avoids, absorb or straight reflect them... Also, it was already unsafe on block and crush counterable on block (before the patch). And most of the characters has either a 3frame jab OR a full reversal... Now thanks to the patch is still unsafe on block, but no longer cc'able.. and Urien has no 3f and no reversal. And V reversals and v shifts can be punished too, so they are commitments.
