Great video! Just got a talon so You got my sub! I’m definitely going to use all the products you listed, BUT I do have a few questions: looks like all your accessories are drawing from your main battery due to the power posts by the winch solenoid and the auxiliary battery is just connected to the system via the isolator. So what’s the point of the isolator and aux battery if all the accessories are drawing straight from the main via the posts? Secondly: did you run your own cable from the main battery to the post up front, or does the kit come with one long enough to reach the front bay?
Thank you! Both batteries work together like one big battery once the isolator activates. Lots of people do run the accessories off the 2nd battery only but I wanted both batteries to function as one. Either way is fine. The isolator allows me to monitor each of them separately and to charge and maintain both with a single maintainer. When the maintainer is on the machine the isolator lets the main battery charge fully and then switches to the 2nd battery. Lots of different ways to skin this cat. This is just what I thought was best. Honda provides 6 gauge positive and negative cables under the cowl. They are meant for the Honda winch controller but work perfectly for this application as well so no need to run more cables to the battery.
Videos are awesome man. I noticed you have the ram phone/tablet mount with the round base. Mine seems a little big to fit where yours is mounted. How did you get it to fit and what did you use to secure. Thanks.

Terry great tutorial, question I noticed the orange wire attaching to the fuse box but what is the red wire from or for?
Thanks. It's a key on trigger for the heated seats. They have their own fuses and relays.
Thanks for a great video! My new toy is a 2020 Honda P1K5. Could you please go into detail on how the power is distributed from the auxiliary fuse box to accessories and rocker switches?? I am very new to wiring of this nature and don’t have the time for a learning curve. Secondly, I will be using a Stinger for the primary relay (key on only). Given this fact, would I need a secondary relay for the voltmeter?
Hi Frank. The individual circuits/fuses have power wires feeding the switches and then out to each accessory no need for any more fuses to each switch. The Stinger is fine but you will still need the relay for the volt meter. That relay is a triggered ground so the gauge is only on when the key is on.

One question, how did you reconnect the firewall cover since you used the two holes? Did you just put the cover in between the battery box and frame?
Thanks Phil! I just trimmed off that portion of the plastic shield. It has plenty of other attaching points for pushins. I am using the aftermarket firewall shield that goes all thee way across.

million dollar question Terry, what type of paint and what prep is need for the door panels ? You did a GREAT wiring job, I've gathered almost the same parts and once I start, my system will be very close to yours. Many good tips ! Also thanks for the links, very helpful
Thank you Robert! All the colored parts of the Talon are painted form the factory so noting more than a light sand and repaint. The black textured parts are a much more labor intensive process. We've had no success at all without removing 75% of the texture and priming them before paint.
As far as the actual paint process, we used Sherman Williams base and urethane clear. Same thing we shoot on the vehicle we repair. It's held up very well.
I’m doing this same install. My question is do you connect the positive post of fuse box to the accessory or directly to the secondary battery?
Th fuse box is fed from the relay on the XTC harness. That way all the fuses are key on only.
Hi there I apologize I'm having a tough time connecting the relay for the true solenoid how did you connect your wires where do the green ones connect to?
When you put the PBR switch plate in did you have to cut out any of the bottom of the cubbyhole behind it to fit the voltage meter
Did not have to cut it but it was really close.
Love your setup with your Talon! I have a Pioneer 1000-5 and I’m doing the same this weekend with an odyssey battery! One question I can’t find an answer on is with the volt gauge on the dash...how does it hook up to the orange plugged harness that’s included with it?
There should be a wiring diagram in the kit. Positive from each battery is wired to the gauge. The orange plug is for the ground interrupting relay. The relay interrupts the ground circuit on the gauge so it only displays with the key on.

Hey Terry! Thanks for the video. I have been following the way you did the dual battery and True isolator. Problem I ran into...I got the volt meter connected and it works on "keyed on power" but only reads the voltage on the main. The secondary just lights up with zeros. Any tips you can offer?

Any luck? Ours does the same thing. Reads main battery, but secondary is all zeros.
Terry, I am hyper curious to know if you didn't re-install the firewall liner purposely, or purely for demonstration purposes, and later re-installed it? Thanks for this amazing How-To video.

Hello Terry, i remember hearing you say you use a battery tender in one of your videos. Do you leave the battery connected when you use or do you disconnect the ground when store and charge?

So question: I am by far not an electrician but I was thinking the way you had it hooked up on the connections. Would you not want the hook up all the accessories to the second battery directly instead of the main battery? My reasoning would be if you drain the second battery then you want kill your primary battery but it will recharge it accordingly. Not sure if I make since but that is just a thought. Tell my your opinion about why or why not please?
You can certainly do it that way and lots of people do. I chose to let both batteries work together.
I have the same kit on my pioneer 1000. Question is. My winch and led bars are all on the aux. The primary is only for the machiene. But when I hit the winch button both batteries will drop voltage not just the aux. They never drop below 13.2 ish even with all the light bars on. But then they fluctuate back up to 14.3. is it normal for them to both fluctuate even tho your drawing off the aux battery. The kit was just installed like 10 minutes ago
That's normal. The isolator is designed to protect and preserve voltage in the cranking battery only when the voltage drops too much.
Is there a benefit to add a Stinger to this setup? I just ordered the same kit and really appreciate your video.

Is your diamond plate only attached via the two holes on the factory winch controller mount? If so what is the thickness of your diamond plate, a lot I see is very thin.
It's 14 gauge. .063. It is bolted thru those holes but has a couple of cable clamps around the chassis tubes that you can't see in the video. Same sort of way I secured a piece on the other side for the rock light controller. flic.kr/p/2hRBLMM

Hey Terry, Have you had any issues with the Talon charging both batteries? My main is staying charged but my aux is not going above 11.5. And I have the AJK off-road 450 CCA & 30 Ah battery with the True isolater and XTC keyed on busbar…..which was a great choice by the way. I don’t have anything on the aux side besides a usb charger, winch, and light bar…..120 watt at that, and the stator won’t charge the aux with the light on. Any thoughts?? Thanks for watching Ted! I have not had any issues with the 2nd battery being fully charged. I'm assuming you have the dual volt meters? Should be about 14 volts on both when the Talon is running and the isolator is closed.
@@terryhatfieldmin I do have the dual voltmeter. I only get the main charged fully. I’ll have to dig deeper to find the issue, I’m sure it’s just a simple mistake I made somewhere……thanks for the reply!!!
@@terryhatfieldmin So I just thought you'd be interested....I found the problem to my issue. The ground wire needs to be grounded to something, not just hanging behind the isolator!!! I was checking wires and the ground popped out from behind my homemade busbar mount, it had the zip tie still on it that I pre measured to the ground I was going to hook it to. So to sum it up, pay attention while wiring, LOL! Take it easy Terry

How are you wiring you accessories to the secondary battery?
I chose to connect both batteries together at the power posts ant then feed the fuse box from the XTC relay. It's not the conventional approach but it's worked perfectly for us for all this time.
Do the extra treys fit with the windshield washer bottle? Have wiper, washer kit with glass windshield
I have no idea. Never had the wiper.

Hi Brian. Everything is working exactly as it was from the start.
Looks so cramped under the hood . So you wont be installing the inferno heater on this talon ,or the wiper kit because of no room,or did you opt for the heated seats instead ?
We freely admit to being fair weather SXS riders. We have no enclosure and run the half windshield so no need for the heater or wiper. The heated seats are plenty good for the occasional cool morning.
Am I missing the post with the links for the items used? I have a '21 Talon 1000R and assume they would all be the same...?

Got it! Thank you Sir! I was hoping a larger battery would fit in that box/tray, but hopefully using an AGM will be sufficient... I just haven't had the greatest luck out of the smaller AGM batteries in solar experiments.
@@PatrickLinley1 The Oreilly Auto powersport battery has performed very well for us in this application.
Is there an indicator light that shows you if the device is working?
Once the main battery is above 12.8 volts the isolator will open and begin charging the secondary battery. There is a blue led that will illuminate to show that it is open.
@@terryhatfieldmin Thankyou terry I understand that these batteries also charge reversely from house battery to car battery is there an indicator for that as well or is it always blue?

Can you put a shut off switch or a 3 way switch on this set up?
I sure you could but for what purpose?

@@jeremyruff7961 Be simple enough to put a cutoff switch in the second battery or just unhook it. I prefer to keep mine on a battery tender pretty much all the time. I actually have mine wired together for extra power for winching or whatever.
Terry, ordered the true isolator and looks pretty simple but.... the relay in the kit is not part of the instructions? Is it required and do you have any kind of instructions for this?? Thanks

It would sure be nice if you would have shown the install instead of the finished product. The problem with the true kit is that it comes with no instructions . An install video would have gotten 1m views.
