I’ve had months where I finished 10 books and DNF’d 10 more. I actually feel relieved when I DNF something and make my TBR-LOL pile smaller! Plus I really do feel like too many recent books are getting rushed out without enough editing. A YA fantasy romance should not be more than 350 pages! That’s not what YA is for! Happy moving and I can’t wait to see book unpacking/organization and all that good stuff!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
One of my cats hid for literally 3 days after moving and I felt so guilty but he slowly started getting comfortable and is mostly adjusted now, cats are so funny
I do love spice in books, but I also want there to be a good story and good character development. DNF’ing a book isn’t bad imo because there are too many other good books out there that we need to get to! 💨🌧️⛈️🌦️
The Hurricane Wars is most definitely a Reylo fanfic. 😂 I read it when it was a Reylo fanfic and it's my absolute favorite. I do think it takes a knowledge of Star Wars to understand what's going on and of the characters involved.
I recently started reading throne of the fallen and I am not very far yet, but I am completely resonating with what you said about the book🤍🙌🏻 I was very excited because I loved kingdom of the wicked, so I hope it will still get better, but so far I’m not very intrigued🫠
Hii queen I’ve missed your face!! & we’re in the new home?! what a treat, can’t wait to see you turn the space into your own 🤩 The cover of Throne of The Fallen is absolutely beautiful, I’m sorry that one didn’t work for you, I feel like she might be a dud author for your tastes 😭😭 still yet to check out any of her books, but I’m not getting all the good vibes!! I’d seen The Hurricane Wars all over my Goodreads & I was sooo intrigued by that cover, another gorgeous cover ruined by an underwhelming book 😭😭 Big advocate for a DNF, making more time in life for the good books!! 🤭⚡️☁️
I COMPLETELY agree with what you said about the spice/relationship dynamics in books!! I also prefer the story be more developed and build the relationship between the characters, rather than have chapters and chapters of spice 😒 I wanted to try The Throne of the Fallen because the cover looked nice but I definitely don’t want to bother now🤨
I really enjoyed your review! We need more honesty in the romance genre, especially when it comes to adding a touch of spicy, forbidden danger. I just finished Hurricane Wars, and to be honest, it was a bit underwhelming. Here are my top reads of the year so far: 1) A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer Armentrout 2) Sex God: Uriel by F. Simmons 3) Iron Flame
One of my cats hid for a good 3 days just because I turned the ceiling fan on 😅 the look on his face when he saw it for the first time was priceless. Still felt bad for him though, but thankfully he got used to it. 🎉
Absolutely same about The Hurricane Wars! I had to DNF at 40% because I absolutely wasn’t interested or invested and I felt lost 90% of the time 😭 I wanted to love it so bad!
i started reading the kingdom of the wicked series just because i'm excited about throne of the fallen, i'll manage my expectations then after your review 🤣
I DNFd Elsie Silver's Flawless yesterday as I thought it was so crude. Is this what passes for romance these days? (I am from the olden days). The way Rhett thought about Summer and what he wanted to do to her - ugh. Maybe I should try one of the others as you ranked it bottom of the set. Sorry about your DNF - it's always annoying when you're looking forward to something.
no that’s totally fine! not sure which top you are referring specifically but the white and black short sleeve tops are from zara and the long sleeve gray athletic top is from amazon ☺️
If you need a new release fantasy romance that isn’t disappointing I’d recommend the book Curious Tides! I’m halfway through and it’s so good (hopefully it ends good too). I thought I would see more hype about it because it’s based on lunar magic.
I looooved throne of the fallen but I understand not loving it! I guess I was okay with the more YA vibes because it’s in an already built universe and it’s new adult so to me that says YA but with slightly more adult themes? I haven’t read that many new adult books so idk how to compare it but I hadn’t really thought of more adult fantasy aspects since the world is already built? I kinda hated kingdom of the wicked etc but I just accepted the pretty terrible world building lmaooo.. anyways just love a good book debate I’m sorry you didn’t like it:(
I think a lot of YA authors are pushed to adult due to spice but they aren’t necessarily planning/trying to write different. It’s kinda sad because a lot of people are frustrated with the authors adult books but publishers are forcing their hands. Overall I think it puts the writers in a hard place. We sooooo need a New Adult category.
Hot take? But.. I have no interest in reading Throne of the Fallen. I actually enjoyed KotW and KotC pretty well but then I think things went downhill with KotF. I feel like things became very clearly about book sales at that point. That series never needed to be a trilogy in the first place and I think it was so obvious to see where she started lining things up to fill pages and expand into these additional books. I felt like things were being put in place specifically to try to make me spend more money and not because of real, natural story progression. Your critiques make complete sense to me because I think the extreme jumps in spice level are exactly in line with that. None of it felt natural or planned, it felt like a ploy to interest more readers as other steamy fanro books gained popularity. I have absolutely no interest in this series or maybe in reading from KM ever again. So, so disappointing to me.
I feel the same way about spice. I need substance✨ to my romance Hot take: the spice was the reason I didn’t personally enjoy silver flames.. It was too horny for me - I wanted more romance.
Throne of the Fallen was a disappointment. I enjoyed the Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy. Truly. It was a well spent time but in this book, it all felt…a mess. The world building was a mess. I didn’t find or developed any connection with the characters. Mostly finished TOTF because yup, there was not a single other book for me to read. There was some chapters I simply ignored. Overall a disappointment. Im curious about Prides story but Im not sure Im gonna read it…😢
I also dnfed The Hurricane Wars! i thought it was just me as everyone seems to rave about it. I also just couldn't connect with the characters at all. Shame!
I think Kerri Maniscalco's best work is YA. I feel like her idea of what makes a book adult is to add smut and unfortunately it comes off so cringy. Even her Kingdom of the Wicked series, when she moved into New Adult with her second book in that series, the romance became so lusty and just cringy imo. She's no longer an author I enjoy.
Writers are adding unnecessary scenes of spice without creating a compelling story. I used to like spice but now it’s become a bit too much and can come across cringey if the plot isn’t well developed.
how often/rare is it that, your books get slightly bent pages or destroyed from amazon mail?! 🥹 LOL my two twisted crowns is coming in a few hours and i have yet to anticipate another slight disaster and trying to fix it with my bare hands 😃
I completely agree over the romance needing to have substance! I love when things feel realistic and slower paced.
“You don’t need to explain packing Rachel” 😂😂 I died. Congrats on the move
thank you! 💓

You explained perfectly how I feel about spice!! I need the tension and buildup

Yay, first vlog in the new house 🎉
G'morning Rachel and fellow notification squad 😆🎉 happy Saturday!

⚡️I def think Kerri Maniscalco is new adult, it just sucks that publishers don’t wanna recognize it as a category 😅
One of my cats hid for a good 3 days just because I turned the ceiling fan on 😅 the look on his face when he saw it for the first time was priceless. Still felt bad for him though, but thankfully he got used to it. 🎉
Ohh, I am currently reading Hurricane Wars because I was intrigued to see parts of my country's mythology in a YA like this. Not DNFing yet.
Nooooo!!! It breaks my heart, too bc I'm currently 76 pages into Hurricane Wars and The Fallen is on my tbr for after. 💔
Absolutely same about The Hurricane Wars! I had to DNF at 40% because I absolutely wasn’t interested or invested and I felt lost 90% of the time 😭 I wanted to love it so bad!
seriously!! i wanted to love it so much, has a lot of great elements, but the writing just didn’t work for me 😭
Excited for the new house! Congrats!
Justice for Flawless! That one is still my favorite (still have to read Hopeless)
⛈this was the coziest vlog, i'm sorry you didn't love all your reads! but regardless, thank you for another stunning video rachel xo
thanks babe! 💓
A 28 min Rachel video?! 👏👏
Heartless forever and always number 1 ❤️❤️ This series is amazing and i read it because of you !!
It's always a shame not to end up liking a book with such a beautiful cover like Throne of the Fallen.
i started reading the kingdom of the wicked series just because i'm excited about throne of the fallen, i'll manage my expectations then after your review 🤣
i'm so happy for you that hopeless was a win at least! not every book is gonna work for everyone and that's totally okay ⛈
Congrats on the move!!
I’m so bummed you didn’t end up liking Throne of the Fallen because I loved it. 🤣 But we can’t win them all!
i’m happy you liked it!! wish i did 🥺

@@ravenhairedreaderamazing!! Thanks so much 😊
I love your videos and a bit offtopic but you have the cutest basics 😊is it rude to ask where you purchased your top?
no that’s totally fine! not sure which top you are referring specifically but the white and black short sleeve tops are from zara and the long sleeve gray athletic top is from amazon ☺️
@@ravenhairedreader Thank you! (:

Love your videos!
Did you purchased Fallen Stars which is the sequel of Heavenly Bodies yet? I'm reading it now. Action packed and very spicy...
⛈️⛈️⛈️
first vlog in our new house!! 🥰
rachel doesn’t like throne of the fallen, i’m so shook 😯😆
wow, the way you are describing throne of the fallen sounds like exactly how i felt about fourth wing so now i’ll probably never pick it up 🥸
i do wish we got more of the whole gang since hopeless is the finale but i loved the scenes we got 🥹
rachel dnfing a book is a momentous occasion. i had no interest in the hurricane wars but now i have even less 🤣
🌧️⛈️🖤
I DNFed Hurricane Wars too 😢

100% agree! a lot of it is publishers, i desperately want a new adult genre to be more normalized and common especially from traditional publishers!
