...transferred from my very first VHS tape (recorded by my dad). I was 20 then & 100% clueless of what ''Sigh & Tollagee'' ;o) meant, yet completely stunned by hot-blooded Ms Migenes' appearance & art and fortunate enough to get to attend one of her ''Krautland'' Christmas concerts (Essen). ´So, dive into some captivating moments of grace and intimacy (e.g. Mariä Wiegenlied). This woman has/had a truly beautiful natural instrument. It reminds me of Leontyne Price at times with its shimmering creamy vibrato and floating sound.
Hallo Stefan, vielen Dank für dieses wunderbare Video. Ich verbinde wunderbare Kindheitserinnerungen mit dieser Aufnahme. Wir hatten dieses Video damals noch auf einer Beta-Kassette. Leider ist es verloren gegangen. Kannst Dir gar nicht vorstellen wie glücklich ich war es hier bei Dir wieder zu finden. Vielen vielen Dank.
Hallo Martin und fröhliche Weihnachten für Dich und deine Lieben! Hab' mich derart ,,sakrisch'' gefreut, als ich jüngst deinen schönen Kommentar zu meinem Migenes upload vorgefunden habe, dass ich - believe it or not! - doch tatsächlich erstmal ein Tr*nchen verdrückt habe, denn auch mir bedeutet dieser Konzertmitschnitt seit damals eine ganze Menge - zumal ich seinerzeit ein fetter Migenes-Fan und -Konzertbesucher war, und da hat es mich doch schon sehr ,,geflasht'', deine Freude über den Fund dieser (bis heute unverständlicherweise nie wieder ausgestrahlten) Weihnachtskonzert-Rarität aus den Zeilen herauszulesen. Ich bin heute Nachmittag - in einem Mix aus ,,weihnachtsstimmungsgesteuerter Spontaneität'' und dankbarer Erinnerung einfach mal so das knappe Stündchen von hier nach Heidelberg gefahren, um mir erstmals den ,,Originalschauplatz'' von damals, die Jesuitenkirche, anzuschauen. Glücklicherweise war sie geöffnet und - halte dich fest! - selbst die urige Krippenszene aus der '81er Aufnahme (welche ich vermutlich zu Ostern dort nicht mehr angetroffen hätte;o) ist noch exakt die selbe!! Ach übrigens, wenn Du vielleicht mal einen ,,Mariä Wiegenlied''-Vergleich ziehen möchtest, so gönne dir dieses doch mal - ebenfalls hier - in der Interpretation der Norwegerin Sissel - auf eine ganz andere, mit glockenhaftem, eher ,,naturbelassenem'' Sopran äußerst anmutig vorgetragene Weise... fürwahr durchaus betörend (wobei mich die m. E. noch facettenreichere, im Vergleich eher ,,mütterliche Tiefe'' der griechisch-puertoricanischen ,,Naturgewalt'' Migenes mit allen dynamischen wie lautmalerischen Abstufungen dann doch noch ein bisschen mehr in den Bann schlägt). Anyway: recht liebe Grüße aus Frankfurt & nochmals vielen Dank für die netten Zeilen!

Hello Alevare2002 & Merry Christmas to you! First of all, I have to apologize for not having responded to your nice note for quite a while now... The reason is: this concert video was my first (and to this day still is my only) upload on RUclips and after it had gone online 2 years ago, I was pretty proud of having managed the converting and "remastering" job that I kept returning to it every once in a while, over a period of several months, just to check if perhaps somebody had left some sort of a note, but: nope!... :o( So I finally quit and I'm truly sorry you haven't heard from me in 11(!) months now. Well, to eventually answer your question: since this video is only a rather humble transfer from a poor source, an old VHS tape, this is definitely as good as it gets because if you compare it to the second "unremastered" edit (which I then added by accident), you can immediately tell how pale, bland and blurred the original recorded material is. By the way, 2 hours ago I returned from the lovely city of Heidelberg where I had gone this afternoon just to visit that Jesuit Church where Ms Migenes' concert was recorded in 1981 and what do you know? Even the nativity scene is still there! Consider me happy!! So, thanks again for the lovely comment! Best regards and seasons greetings from Frankfurt!
