This is a complete playthrough of level 12 - The Grand Cathedral -- on Serious Mode difficulty, triggering all the hidden secrets, without saving or dying.
Highlights:
0:18: The Corridor of Death, Wave 1 - Mercenaries and harpies, with a few Curcubitos and Zumb'uls.
2:44: Wave 2 - A biomech, Zumb'uls and a lot of Kleers.
5:18: Wave 3 - Major and minor biomechs, Gnaars, mercenaries
6:45: Wave 4 - Major biomechs, Curcubitos, cannons, werebulls
8:44: Wave 5 - Major biomechs, mercenaries, werebulls, and Fiendian reptiloids which hide around the corner (see Wave 6)
9:42: Teleport to secret pumpkin field. Cannons and mini Curcubitos.
12:04: Wave 6 - Fiendian reptiloids left over from last wave. Kleer skeletons, Curcubitos, werebulls.
14:59: Wave 7 - Kleers, Zumb'uls, reptiloids and Fiendian reptiloids, kamikazes, major biomechs. Enemies start spawning in behind you in this one.
16:46: Wave 8 - Major biomechs, Curcubitos, Zumb'uls, werebulls, and lots and lots and lots of Kleers (many of them spawning behind you). This wave will push you almost all the way back to the beginning of the level.
22:02: Final corridor wave - lava golems, Fiendian reptiloids, harpies, major biomechs, cannons.
24:36: Teleport to Ugh-Zan embryo museum, 2 Highlander reptiloids
26:22: The incredibly annoying and difficult courtyard with bouncy pads. I lost track of the number of times I died at this part of the level. Major and minor biomechs, cannons, marsh-hoppers, Kleers, harpies that drop kamikazes, reptiloids.
32:44: Triggering the final battle in the wide open field. The ammo, health, armor, Serious Speed and Serious Damage in the central area do respawn, which is a good thing because it's needed. This battle is the most intense fight in the game. Every enemy in the game will come at you in wave after wave. Nothing you haven't seen before, but it just doesn't let up and keeps ramping up and up in intensity. Once the meteor storms start, you can't even venture too far into the field lest you get hit and take heavy damage. Very, very intense battle.
40:40: I made a series of screwups (meteor hit, Kleer hit, rocket hit, run into Kamikaze) which took me down to 13 health, the lowest it had been in the entire game.
44:32: The last straggler is killed. Refilling health, armor, ammo before heading across the field.
45:38: Entering the last courtyard for the final mega-boss battle against Mordekai the Summoner. This battle killed me several times before I got it right, and let me tell you, dying at THIS stage of the level is enough to make you want to pitch the computer out the window.
53:50: Mordekai falls! Final cutscenes with Sam "confessing" to Mental in the Grand Cathedral before taking off in the Cathedral Spaceship. End credits, applause.
Notes on the video:
I originally played and recorded these demos back in 2002, just after Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released, following up on the demos I had recorded of a Serious Mode run-through of First Encounter. In that run I hadn't triggered all the secrets, so in this run-through I triggered all the secrets as well.
The demos were originally uploaded to (and are still hosted on) the Serious Sam community site www.seriouszone.com/ , but I'm now uploading these to RUclips because the original demo files required 1) that you actually have the game to play them, and 2) that you have the out-of-the-box, unpatched version of the game as well. If you had upgraded to the patched version of the game, several of the demos were unplayable past a certain point, so here you can see the levels played from start to finish as I originally recorded them.
Since the game has been remade in HD, almost no one plays the original Classic version of the game anymore, but I wanted these not to be lost to time. Игры
This is one of the most epic memories of my youth! And that's ONLY because one of the GREATEST soundtracks ever made. Also that fckn sky. I don't know why, but the amount of open space makes its so endlessly godlike, you just absolutely feel the scale. It's so very simple and yet so very effective.
One of my favorite things about this series was the enormous sense of scale. They were incredibly ahead of their time in that respect.
Пухлый I’ve always felt the same too, man watching this is just nostalgic. I wish I could replay this
@@drew-ib7sy What's keeping you? Steam has it for a couple bucks. :)
All Serious Sam music is perfect.. :)
@@dslartoo That scale is hand to hand with beautiful art design + spiritual themes also..which makes it even more amazing to look at
best game sound track 😍😍
this is the best music I've ever heard in my entire life it makes me wanna cry😭
Terminator fight to monster God and magog and devil angel
I felt the game end as soon as the music started 😔 It is so nostalgic...
Cro-Team has made the best soundtracks. All the SS soundtracks are masterpieces.
This is best song 😌☺
I remember back in 2008, I was in a netcafe playing this map alone (years and years later I found out I was playing on the highest difficulty because I didn't know English back then ) and then a friend of mine joined in. After like 15 minute of constantly dying, the netcafe owner joined in but also struggling. I remember its was like an hour and the amount of players increase through out time and in the end we have like 10-15 guys in the same LAN playing this map and screaming their ass off playing. It was so fun back then, wish I can experience something like that again
That sounds like an awesome memory! LAN parties can be a great time.
I’m tryna play through it on serious lolol. Beat the first one on serious, and it’s definitely, seriously a time and a half :p in terms of sheer frustration. But that is part of the fun, as much as I’ve wanted to scream 😂
this brings back so many memories...hours and hours of playing this mission
Same for me, any time I watch these. :)
One of the best moments in whole videogame industry. This epic music returns me to my childhood and makes me feeling strong and happy
Croteam: It's just a silly first person shooter game. Don't go crazy with the soundtrack.
Damjan Mravunac:
Musical genius. On par with Mick Gordon and David Wise in my opinion.
His work on SS has been stellar.
@@DropkickNation Damjan is above them imo.
@@xristaka8199 😎👍
legendary soundtrack i love it
It really was. Fantastic music on all the levels but this one is the most epic of them all.

The timing, the weapon switching, the way you use specific weapons for specific enemies and situations, the positioning,... I dare to call your gameplay flawless :)
Hey, thanks! Weapon switching and picking the right tool for the job is a huge part of my gameplay for First and Second Encounter so I'm pleased you noticed. I don't know about "flawless", but I was pretty happy with it at the time. :)
@@dslartoo the game kinda forces you to weapon switch by not giving you exactly too much ammo for any particular weapon, considering the number of enemies. Doom Eternal feels very similar 😊 It's been years since I beat this game on Serious difficulty but I remember using similar techniques.
You're a real chad for completing an already difficult game to its max difficulty. Serious Sam games were sure a 'Use Everything You've Got' type of games
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
I love those big open spaces. And quite often there is a secret or easter egg waiting for you if you take the time to walk all the way to the edge of the level.
No one did wide open spaces better than Serious Sam.
@@dslartoo Yeah, I always enjoyed exploring and Serious Sam could allow you to run 15 minutes into an empty corner of the map to find a secret message like "What are you doing here?", a monster spawn or a big goodie. And the game engine handled those massive area flawlessly. Even on the hardware of the time. Really impressive.
Girls hearing a bell : OMG! it's a church
Boys hearing a bell : 37:05
I remember loading this savegame over and over again just to listen to the soundtrack...loved it then. love it still.
The Grand Cathedral music was really next level awesome.
I can't believe i'm listieing to this while studying but i have to admit it's really working as if i'm about to fight the final boss
I played First and Second Encounter side by side with my dad... I was about 6 years old then and this Map was our very favourite, one of the best moments of my gaming history!
Awesome memory!
Kleer skeletons are the most irritating of the lot
They weren't so bad in First Encounter, where they would always just run straight at you, but in Second Encounter Croteam added some basic intelligence to the Kleers so that they would try to flank you or sidestep just as you fired at them. Made it a lot more difficult to deal with hordes of them.
I think it's also that there are way too many of them that makes them annoying as hell. Everyone says the green reptiloids are the worst but they are rare, kleers are like 50% of all enemies or smth... anything that is overdone is annoying.
Kleers come out to plaayyy
Yea i was dreaming the sound of that screaming guys with cannonballs in hand same in childhood same now at 22 so please i hate the skeletons 2 but that fckers are in front of them
The addition of the flamethrower in Second Encounter and its ability to burn through many enemies was a blessing when fighting hordes of Kleers. Since they always charged face-first at you, all you needed to do was pull a matador move on them, move to the side at the same time you ignite them and the afterburn killed the suckers within 5 seconds, so you just had to keep running backwards and dodging. Adding that weapon was a truly merciful move to us from the creators.
This game is so excited and i love it very much we dont forget also the sounds
God:creats human human:creats serious sam god:now thats what i'am talking about
Epic music
Well played! Thanks for uploading this. I play the HD version once in a while but this... this truly brings memory C:
Thanks! I do tend to play the HD version myself when I replay it these days, although it doesn't have the weird physics puzzles that the original did. But there's just something about the original versions.
This soundtrack can make a man cry
I remember playing it back in the day, close after release date. I was like 'shit so many enemies (even for that game), meteors, wtf?!'. I was such a bad player that time, but I knew that if I stop moving I will die immediately. Great game, great memories.
Lancelt666 I think that was the first thing I learned when playing the first game. This series does more than any other one to force you to KEEP MOVING! What a great set of games.
The game aged very well. Miss playing this coop with friends
I'll never get tired of this...NEVER. you're an amazing player
Well, I was twenty years ago when I recorded these, I'm pretty sure my reflexes and reaction time aren't this good anymore. But I had a lot of fun recording them and I do still love rewatching them years later. Thanks!
Man you are a legend in this game. Period. 👏
31:15 epic music syncronization XD
Heh, you're right, I never noticed that before.
Thank you so much for your walkground, that was awesome! I watch it third time already and still love your game-style. Espesially I love your comments in the description!
Maybe someday you could play once again, but with finding all secrets, that would be amazing.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! However, all of the videos in the series for Second Encounter (including this one) do already show me getting all the secrets in each level. It's just the ones in my First Encounter series that don't show all secrets.
This has been my most favourite game since I was like 6-8 years... The first and second encounter of Serious Sam. You played so well with the Serious difficulty level😍😍😍
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the vids.
I still have AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA sound in my mind since 2008
It's enough to give you nightmares, isn't it? :)
Yes its enough.I had nightmares of Sirian Werebulls trying to knock me off and Electro fishes trying to shock me in the middle of the dark abyss..
That was creepy af
I was born in 2009 I'm 12 I play this Idc of the age restriction I just play I'm below 18
Legendary game remembering playing on my Xbox original beating all the bosses brings back memories this soundtrack was the best but the great pyramid boss fight was epic
greatest game of all time

Simply epic music without a name.

The best video game and the best enemies and best soundtrack..... I love Serious sam and Doom!
Hard to argue that logic. :)
The best Nostalgic game soundtrack I've ever heard
The sound track send me to another world i love it
finding all secrets is my primary mission in this first and second encounter
best soundtrack in an endlevel. so epic !
shivers how this game gives you, does not give any
Pure nostalgia
Man, can’t wait for the Serious Sam 4 recreation of this level.
they actually did a pretty decent job at that.. the sense of scale was there at the very least
I had memories with this game 😍😍😍 I really enjoyed your gameplay
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm trying to find a copy of the original factory release for SS:FE (my original disc is lost) so I can record and upload the full-level videos I did for First Encounter as well.
Phil C. Can’t wait 🔥! Good luck doing that bro 🙏🏻❤️
Altos recuerdos..lo estoy jugando y llegue hasta Aki
nostalgia !
Un clásico en multijugador en modo difícil 😂
I think the skybox is better on the original game than on HD edition... need the god rays to be proper like here.
More modern games can do amazing stuff with real-time rendering but there's still a lot to be said for a really good skybox.
@@dslartoo MORE GOD RAYS!!! Get someone who's Michael Bay of god rays!
Best soundtrack in the entire series, and arguably my favourite OST in all of gaming. Damjan never disappoints if you ask me
Definitely one of the best around!
Bought a new laptop few days ago, just to play this game, So many memories just in this music🥺🥺🥺
اجمل ايام عمري كانت بهلعبه 💔
Good gaming. Who needs tactics when you can get serious?
Fantastic games those first two encounters. 22 years of memories. :')
This level though... Epic music with epic battles conjuring the valor of the medieval knight, although with minigun and cannon instead of lame sword and shield.
CO-OP+unlimited ammo setting+using minigun+LMB+ESC key x2 = serious carnage ;)
This was one of the few games I used to play co-op with friends. :)
EPIC level, EPIC music with EPIC battle..
Youre really good!
Rae HeartThrob Thanks! Well, I *was* really good, back then. Not sure I could still manage it these days. :)
That f*cking timing at 4:47 lmao
Heh, yeah, that little bastard dodged just as I fired. Kleers were a lot easier in the first one. :)
And the music ending at this perfect moment as well, it was funny !
@@CleFesse Oops. Yes, that too. :)
i called that "open wide and take your medicine" when i blasted mobs face especially by a double barelled shotgun from a slaping range.
In a way I kind of feel like this should've been Sam's final stand. Fighting this much shit off would of been a epic way to end this and he would have ended up saving the day. Of course they could've made the ending ambiguous leaving you guessing what happened as the fight was amazing. Since BFE was a prelude it would've been a nice way to end things. Of course they could've done spin offs for the people who still wanted more. But I don't know that's just my take on this amazing game and series.
The reason I thought about this was the fact that this fight had all the signs of this, the music, amount of enemies and all the other little things just made it feel like one big final push to save the world, but to only sacrifice himself in the process. I guess Sam is just to bad ass too die.
That's actually a really interesting approach I'd never thought of. I guess I just always assumed what you said at the end -- he's just too much of a badass to ever be defeated. (We'll conveniently ignore the five hundred times I died while playing through). :)
I'm definitely looking forward to SS 4: Planet Badass!
During the final stand part, when you're approaching the cathedral and the storm comes, it would have been awesome if you were part of a whole army rather than just 1 man fighting the endless hordes of monsters.
Well, you can get some of that by playing co op with friends. :)
Memories of times which will never return.
Oh, I don't know about that. You can always replay the originals, or even play the new one which just got released. :)
@@dslartoo I played the 4th it was awesome, what i meant was this game reminds me of being younger and times that are long gone by now

Nice work man. Please, can you show in a video or a screenshot your video settings?I am have some problems with the graphics.
omg this soundtrack, I love the Serious Sam 4 version of this one, btw am I getting old or these first Serious Sam games were easier? I keep dying all the time in SS 4 on normal, especially when Kleers sorround me
I haven't played the new one yet, but I don't know if I'd say the first two were easy, exactly. They were still plenty hard in my opinion. :)
I always thought that there was some easter egg hiding in that small opening in the sky where all those sunrays are coming from
54:27 Me walking to the headmaster office because i didn't do the homework
Dam u in love with the thompson 😳
Can't argue with that. It and the minigun are probably my favorite weapons.

Over 20 years since i played this game the first time and I still arguing with myself what level was more epic - grand cathedral or the great pyramid.
Oo, that's a tough one. I think TGC gets the nod for level design and that epic music, but TGP gets the nod for the run to the pyramid and that cutscene with Ugh-Zan (had never seen a boss THAT big before).
