  • Kolejny teledysk do świetnej piosenki z nowego albumu Heroes.

    Arlindo Lúcio da Silva, Geraldo Baeta da Cruz and Geraldo Rodrigues were three soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force on the WWII (Brazil was the only south-american country to send infantry troops to fight in the Mediterranean Campaigns of the WWII). On 14th April, 1945, during the Battle of Montese, the three were involuntarily separated from their unit and had an encounter with aprox. 100 German soldiers.
    The three receieved surrender orders from the Germans, but they refused it and engaged in combat. They fought so hard and withstood so long that the Germans thought that some Brazilian backup had come for them and there was virtually no "numeric disadvantage".
    In the end, all the three were killed. Arlindo was mortally wounded by a sniper, Rodrigues faced death in form of a mortar shrapnel and Baeta got himself a quick death with a unfortunate headshot. After the Germans saw that only three soldiers created some heroic chaos, the German commander gave an order to bury them on site and, on their graves, they put three crosses with "Drei Brasilianische Helden" (Three Brazilian Heroes) written on them. Their corpses were found and now are in the mausoleum of WWII Memorial on Rio de Janeiro.
    Their feats were so amazing that the Swedish metal band Sabaton made a music about them

    The smoking snake, the mascot of the Brazilian expeditionary force sent to fight the Nazi army in Europe during World War II in response of German U-Boast attacking Brazilian shipping in the Atlantic.
    The expression "when the snake smokes" would be equivalent to "when pigs fly" here in the USA. At the time, many believed that was that it was more likely that one would see a snake smoking a pipe than a bunch of blacks and indians from the Brazilian army to be able to defeat Nazi soldiers in combat.
    So, the Brazilian army adopted the smoking snake as its mascot and that is how the expeditionary force become knows as: The Smoking Snakes. After their successful return from Europe the meaning of the expression was reversed. Instead of meaning something unlikely to happen, the expression "the snake will smoke" started to mean that something indeed would happen, and very intensely.
    The Swedish rock/metal band Sabaton wrote this song as a tribute to the Smoking Snakes in general and for three Brazilian soldiers in particular, who fought an entire platoon of German soldiers to their deaths, in the mountains of Italy, 1944.

      Sorry mate but I don't understand. My english is on middle level and its my foult but what is it "Nazi"? You wrote "force sent to fight the Nazi army in Europe" I was thinking all the time that Germans start the WW2. I dont recognize country named Nazi.

      @marlkarx1138 6 лет назад

      Not sure if you are a moron or just a sacrastic shithead. Yes, Germany was the nation that started the European theatre of WW2. But, at the time, it was led by the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, and the shortened version of that name is (in English) Nazi. So yes, it was both the Nazis and the Germans, as the country of Germany was led by Nazis. But, keep in mind, the Wehrmacht was not Nazi, it was German - the "Nazi Army" was the Waffen-SS, as it commited crimes in the territory of the USSR and Poland (basicly every slavic land they conquered).

    As a brazilian i am ashamed saying i have never heard anything about the Cobras Fumantes before. It was necessary a Swedish metal band, to provide this information. To be worse, the Drei Brasilianischen Helden, were born in Minas Gerais, my birth state, and state where the Inconfidencia Mineira was proclaimed releasing Brazil from Portugal.. I am ashamed, but i cant blame myself to be misinformed, because the Drei Brasilianischen Helden story supposed to be told inside the brazilian schools, but none give a shit about... In fact it´s a forgotten story!Thank you Sabaton for the information!

      Jefte Coutinho A inconfidência não nos tornou independentes... seus membros foram delatados e o movimento faliu... vc está confundindo com o grito do Ipiranga e a guerra da Independência, que vieram 30 anos depois...

    • @010804jefte
      @010804jefte 7 лет назад

      A inconveniência Mineira foi o gatilho, para os demais fatos que ocorreram. Tudo começou com a inconfidência mineira.. No entanto, o Brasil teve sua independência, mais por vontade dos portugueses, do que pela disposição dos brasileiros.. Se todo o povo brasileiro tivesse a mesma postura dos inconfidentes, pode apostar que nossa situação hoje como nação, seria outra. Mas, você tem razão.. Errei ao dizer que a inconfidência mineira resultou na libertação do Brasil.. Na verdade, ela foi apenas uma das causas.

    • @matheusbatista4
      @matheusbatista4 7 лет назад

      Jefte Coutinho Não. A inconfidência foi um dos últimos eventos do tipo. Ela foi estudada e recordada apenas já durante o Segundo reinado, por volta de 1860, os Autos da Devassa da Inconfidência haviam sido perdidos rapidamente. D. Pedro I proclamou a independência por motivos políticos, e a Guerra da Independência veio por motivos pátrios... a inconfidência nunca exerceu nenhuma influência na separação a Portugal, e os ideais inconfidentes, fortemente baseados no iluminismo, praticamente não foram recordados durante a formação do Brasil. A maioria das propostas dos inconfidentes em 1788 vieram a ser decretadas décadas ou séculos depois do Grito do Ipiranga.

    • @010804jefte
      @010804jefte 7 лет назад

      Matheus, mas se a inconfidência Mineira foi um dos últimos eventos, quais foram os primeiros? Sei que os portugueses estavam descontentes com a atenção prestada em demasia ao Brasil colônia por parte da coroa. Os brasileiros queriam a independência, mas a pressão maior veio dos portugueses. Acredito que até Napoleão teve maior contribuição que os brasileiros. Caramba, não sei se foi por bairrismo, mas sempre associei a inconfidência mineira a liberação do Brasil. Que viagem a minha.. Os caras foram picados em pedaços e tiveram as partes separadas.... Na cidade que morei durante toda minha infância e adolescência, ainda existe a árvore onde a perna de Tiradentes foi deixada. O pior é que desde de pequeno vejo quadros do grito do Ipiranga nas escolas.. Que vacilo! Obrigado pela correção..

    hello, sorry if my english is bad and you have to read in English. The confusion with the phrases: "Eterna é sua Vitória" and the phrase that appears in the CD booklet, "Viva está sua Memória" is that originally, the phrase that came out in the booklet was the first choice, but the band changed the phrase sung to the music as it sounded better, and the company behind the booklet did not change at the end, so the phrase went wrong in the official letter.

    this song honors us..the true story of 3 brazilian soldiers in the taking of monte castle italia 1945 when the brazilian army freed italy from nazism...the 3 alone..faced a german infantry company with 150 men... by 1 hour so that their platoon was not destroyed..with that, the platoon retreated and managed to save themselves...when the ammunition ran out, they left for melee...when they were killed the German commander was impressed to learn that he was violently attacked..por 3 soldiers and not for an entire company as they thought... and they buried them with sayings in German... 3 Brazilian heroes were 28 years old 26 years old and 25 years old

    • @sgorias1
      @sgorias1  9 лет назад +22

      Trevor Woolson
      Most of us
      have heard the expression “when pigs fly” but in a different part of the world
      another popular saying was that “It’s more likely for a snake to smoke a pipe
      than for the Brazilian expeditionary force to go to the front and fight” in the
      same context. However, one day in 1944 the snake did smoke and over 25.000
      Brazilians left to join WW2. This is the story about three of them who fought
      so bravely against a much larger opposing force.Located in the mountains and heavily defended
      by the Germans as a last bastion to block the advance of allied troops in the
      direction of the Po Valley, on 14 April 1945, Montese became the stage for the
      most arduous and bloody battle of Brazilian troops in Italy.Three Brazilian soldiers on patrol were
      attacked by German forces. Outnumbered, the patrol was ordered to surrender.
      The three men took cover and opened fire on the enemy until running out
      of ammunition. Not satisfied, they proceeded to pitch their bayonets and
      advanced against the Germans and consequently were fired upon and shot dead.In recognition of the bravery of those soldiers
      and in tribute to their memory, the Germans buried them and placed a
      cross with the inscription “Drei Brasilianischen Helden” (Three Brazilian
      Heroes)In honour of the three heroes:Arlindo Lúcio da SilvaGeraldo Baeta da CruzGeraldo Rodrigues de Souza
