*Important* I beat the entire game defeating every boss while only having talked to Alexander at the Radahn fight briefing.- Can confirm I retraced the steps at every encounter, (EXCEPT FOR FIRST ENCOUNTER) he was NOT AT FIRST encounter, so I started at SECOND encounter, following along with this video, exhausted his dialogue, (didn't summon for Fire Giant as the boss was already dead), then warping/traveling to next step one by one. Until finally I met him in Crumbling Azula, as you would, exhausted his dialogue as I did at every other encounter and BOOM. Fought him and still received everything successfully completing his questline.
Alex respected you as the greatest warrior in his mind. He gave you his all during the Radahn festival , he even try to recover his cracks at Volcano area . But eventually the Fire Giant cost him unrecoverable damage, so he used up all remaining strenght just to catch you up at the dragon temple, want you to grant him his wish- a Fight with the greatest warrior. Alex always talks to you with cheerful tone and folding his arm with confidence, while you see there are more cracks on his body and cracks are getting bigger thoughout the questline. This is a heartbreaking yet perfect ending of a sidequest. So, dont give him a small punch for fun, give him your all, like the way he gave his to you. Edit:typo
I sort of want to intentionally lose to him when I get to this point. By this point, they probably expect us to be very powerful, so losing to him is a low chance thing that they might've hidden something behind.
Amazingly detailed and well done! Npc questlines are often the most overlooked aspect of fromsoftware's games and usually the guides for them take awhile to come out.
This is why I believe there NEEDS to be a way to make them more accessible, I don't think a quest log like any open world game would be good but it's too cryptic at times for sure
@@panosas4645 Old game used to be a lot more linear, and that's still hard to solve them all. But I think the idea is these are not a quest you just follow, they want you to figure things out yourself. Dialogues give you hints on what to do next, but that's all they want to give you.

even before i met alexander, i found the little area with pot people in stormveil castle. i killed the big one, saw him explode into a bloody mess and instantly got genuinely sad lmao. i just kinda walked past the little ones attacking me cuz killing them made me feel bad
In Jarburg, I looted a jar shard and the little ones started to run after me trying to smack me, leaving the shard on the ground and walking away they de-agro, I just loved that. I can't bear to break the little guys they're too cute.
I really hope maybe in a dlc, we can use that key item we get from Alexander to revive him in a new, stronger body. And I hope there’s a way to bring back or save melina. And blaidd. And appoint kenneth haight as ruler of limgrave after we become Elden lord.

Yes, the man from above is right. You should not hope for a good ending for any of the characters, because death and hopelessness are the main theme and meaning of the whole game. This is almost a direct quote from Miyazaki from the interview

Speculation: The Jar race came to be as yet another attempt at dealing with flesh and bodies in a world without death. As destined death was removed from the Elden Ring, it removed it from the course of life in the world. As the spirit says the only way to die is to wait the day when the Erdtree roots meet with you. Jars were probably used by grafters in order to deal with the still "living" remains. The life, however, leeched into the jar itself granting it life. This proved to be beneficial, as the flesh of strong warriors fermented into a usable tonic for recovery, even if it did have a few drawbacks. It's also one of the reasons cracked pots never truly break. They can't break due to residual "life" being unable to die.
sorry to break it to you, but he probably did. if you inspect the descirption of the "shard of alexander" talisman, it says that it contains red hair of some kind of champion. While it is rather cryptic, my heart breaks seeing him beeing defeated by us elden lords. Long may the sun shine upon this Lord Of Warriors!
@@DcLoki12 the fire Giant has very clearly orange hair. Also since that step is optional and the fight with radanh is the only one where we see him stuffing himself with remains from the battle then its very safe to assume its hair from radanh
I think that the shard of Alexander is a fragment of true warrior-ship I carry it around even as I became the elden lord, a piece of Alexander now hath became an elden lord

I honestly didn’t know what would happen to him at the end, I seriously sat there for the longest time and just cried, since he was the only npc I actually liked a lot. A true warrior he was, and a good friend. Leave it to Fromsoftware to make you feel for a jar. 😥

@@mfloth i found him, he is behind the magma wyrm near the seethewater terminus sight of grace on mount gelmir. You have to beat the wyrm to talk to Alexander the pot and this will advance his progress perfectly fine.

I think my favourite tidbit, intentional or not, is his delivery of the line, "the scarlet, rot-blighted Caelid Wilds." He says "scarlet [comma] rot" not as a proper noun, but as an adjective and a noun, as if he's unaware of the implications of the Scarlet Rot. Like, "oh, it's some red rot disease I think I've heard about." It really shows how naïve and in-over-his-head he is (despite not having a head).
I like that too. It really is hard to tell if the voice actor misread the line or if it was intended to be read as such - both ways are correct technically 😂
When I first met Alexander stuck in the ground I felt a fleeting reminder of Seigward, and then I just happened across him soon after in the cave and as soon as I saw him again I knew he would be the heart of gold drifting adventurer we all needed 🙏🏻
There is an Town in the game with the name of Jarburgon or something like that, that even Alexander mentioned in his quest. Maybe, you can go there and deliver the key item he drops after you beat him
Jarburg is indeed a location, but as Alexander also said, it's not for him to return to as a warrior; and in this form of ending his questline he is still very much a warrior to the end.
I hit a lot in Liurnia, thought he just needed a harder smack but immediately stopped when he shouted “I’LL BREAK, I’LL BREAK BEFORE I’M OUT” The delivery was so genuine it made me feel bad.

I fought Radahn after Godrick and when I got that cutscene I thought that I was probably supposed to kill them in an order, did it wrong, and accidentally nuked the Lands Between.
There's a npc early on that wants to become a jar and that's most likely where you bring alexanders innards but selvius kills that npc so you can't actually finish the quest or try to extend it because we don't know unless you can kill selvius beforehand or not. Same with the maiden we're all supposed to have, therolina gets turned into a puppet as well and the only confirmed appearance we have of her is after she gets turned into a puppet before Radahn. People need to test if any of this works in either ng+ or ng.
I've seen this mentioned on Reddit. Can you tell me where this NPC is? I've only ever seen its puppet being sold by Seluvis. I'd really love to find it!
@@ciborgification There was a guy on fextralife talking about interacting with him early on. I don't know specifically were he is as I haven't seen him. I started a new playthrough to see if I can speedrun to selvuis to kill him and then try to find these npcs. Almost every vid on selvius's dungeon there's different npcs or not as many as the ones in my playthrough. Sorry that I don't know the location but I do know he exists. People probably need to skip storm veil to not progress the story to find these npcs but people need to test and find things out, the more the better.
Therolina actually makes an appearance at Redmane Castle, she's the one who gives you the polite bow gesture. It seems she only wanted to overlook the battle and not exactly join it.
tbh i feel like Alexander is somehow just like the onion Knight from DS3, they are both clumsy, faithful and true warriors. Onion Knight has his Duty to fullfill and Alexander is always seeking for the path to become stronger, yet he has the limit, since his body is a pot and it can be break easily. Both NPCs are my favourite Character in Souls series.
OMG I almost just spit out my oatmeal! I'm a fairly new player and thought Limgrave and Caelid were pretty much the extent of the whole map, Holy crap when I saw you looking at the map, theres a lot more to explore!
I can say with certainty that Alexander is my favorite fictional character that happens to be a giant pot, and yes.. he also happens to be the only one.
Fun fact, Alexander's quest can start either at step 1 or at step 2, so if you happen to miss him at Limgrave, you can still find him for the first time in Gael Tunnel and continue with his quest as normal.

I cried the first time this happened. Alex was a good character. Honorable, funny, and noble till the end. I'm glad he got his wish, but sad to see him go. DAMN YOU FROMSOFTWARE!!! Why give such the feelz in such a phenomenal game?!
I feel like people underappreciated the fact that this guy is literally a jar of meat stew yet he's a warrior who's prime goal is to be the best and well cooked meal in a jar ever. Imagine if the Kool-Aid man or one of those M&M candies were jolly badass warriors who would brave in a beautiful but desolate world. It's hysterically hilarious but we cheer for him all the same because there are only a few allies you could count on to boost your morale. His last gift to you is to deliver a well cooked meat on a plate after a long journey that was stewing inside him all along just so his short life would be of use to you since he knew you need all the help you can get when he's gone. What a jar.
Thats why it hit me so hard. In that cruel and forsaken world there only so little jolly warriors who you can rely on. In the end he went out like a champ.
I hope in DLC we get the Warrior Jar's Fists as a hand weapon. I'd love to see more additions to the Fist weapons that are designed more like "fists" than "balls".

Alexander died a great warrior. he will give you his strength for you by giving you one of the best talismans in the game. protect the village of alexander and his nephew
Just to help shorten things a bit you can get to Fort Laiedd far faster by going to the Erdtree Gazing Hill - grace (north of the grand lift of dectus), up the hill to the north of the grace, past the Wyndham ruins where you fight the Tibia Mariner and right to the same grace at Seethewater River. Hope that helps
When he laid there and exploded, I cried out, "ALEXANDER!!!" and swore I would never forget him. I gave his innards to the mini jar lad in Jar Village, he will continue uncle Alexander's legacy.

I think my favourite tidbit, intentional or not, is his delivery of the line, "the scarlet, rot-blighted Caelid Wilds."
He says "scarlet [comma] rot" not as a proper noun, but as an adjective and a noun, as if he's unaware of the implications of the Scarlet Rot. Like, "oh, it's some red rot disease I think I've heard about." It really shows how naïve and in-over-his-head he is (despite not having a head).
I like that too. It really is hard to tell if the voice actor misread the line or if it was intended to be read as such - both ways are correct technically 😂
The ditch where I first met him is literally a hole in my heart every time I pass by it.
One of the best messages I ever saw was in front of Alexander chilling in the Lava which said "God Ahead"
When I first met Alexander stuck in the ground I felt a fleeting reminder of Seigward, and then I just happened across him soon after in the cave and as soon as I saw him again I knew he would be the heart of gold drifting adventurer we all needed 🙏🏻

There is an Town in the game with the name of Jarburgon or something like that, that even Alexander mentioned in his quest. Maybe, you can go there and deliver the key item he drops after you beat him
I tried, couldn't find any activation point or new npc to give the key item.
Jarburg is indeed a location, but as Alexander also said, it's not for him to return to as a warrior; and in this form of ending his questline he is still very much a warrior to the end.
You can, as of the current update. You can give his innards to his nephew I believe.
I hit a lot in Liurnia, thought he just needed a harder smack but immediately stopped when he shouted “I’LL BREAK, I’LL BREAK BEFORE I’M OUT” The delivery was so genuine it made me feel bad.

I fought Radahn after Godrick and when I got that cutscene I thought that I was probably supposed to kill them in an order, did it wrong, and accidentally nuked the Lands Between.

There's a npc early on that wants to become a jar and that's most likely where you bring alexanders innards but selvius kills that npc so you can't actually finish the quest or try to extend it because we don't know unless you can kill selvius beforehand or not. Same with the maiden we're all supposed to have, therolina gets turned into a puppet as well and the only confirmed appearance we have of her is after she gets turned into a puppet before Radahn. People need to test if any of this works in either ng+ or ng.
I've seen this mentioned on Reddit. Can you tell me where this NPC is? I've only ever seen its puppet being sold by Seluvis. I'd really love to find it!
@@ciborgification There was a guy on fextralife talking about interacting with him early on. I don't know specifically were he is as I haven't seen him. I started a new playthrough to see if I can speedrun to selvuis to kill him and then try to find these npcs. Almost every vid on selvius's dungeon there's different npcs or not as many as the ones in my playthrough. Sorry that I don't know the location but I do know he exists. People probably need to skip storm veil to not progress the story to find these npcs but people need to test and find things out, the more the better.
Therolina is dead at the very start of the game, you get the finger used to write messages from her.
The npc’s are hidden in a dungeon near renna’s rise!
Therolina actually makes an appearance at Redmane Castle, she's the one who gives you the polite bow gesture. It seems she only wanted to overlook the battle and not exactly join it.
This hit me harder because I have been summoning him on every fight, met him a lot, feels like rivals that journey together

tbh i feel like Alexander is somehow just like the onion Knight from DS3, they are both clumsy, faithful and true warriors. Onion Knight has his Duty to fullfill and Alexander is always seeking for the path to become stronger, yet he has the limit, since his body is a pot and it can be break easily. Both NPCs are my favourite Character in Souls series.

I can say with certainty that Alexander is my favorite fictional character that happens to be a giant pot, and yes.. he also happens to be the only one.

Fun fact, Alexander's quest can start either at step 1 or at step 2, so if you happen to miss him at Limgrave, you can still find him for the first time in Gael Tunnel and continue with his quest as normal.
Do you need step 2? Cause I did step 1, didn't see him at the festival and I saw the hole where we're supposed to see him again but he wasn't there

I cried the first time this happened. Alex was a good character. Honorable, funny, and noble till the end. I'm glad he got his wish, but sad to see him go. DAMN YOU FROMSOFTWARE!!! Why give such the feelz in such a phenomenal game?!

I feel like people underappreciated the fact that this guy is literally a jar of meat stew yet he's a warrior who's prime goal is to be the best and well cooked meal in a jar ever. Imagine if the Kool-Aid man or one of those M&M candies were jolly badass warriors who would brave in a beautiful but desolate world. It's hysterically hilarious but we cheer for him all the same because there are only a few allies you could count on to boost your morale. His last gift to you is to deliver a well cooked meat on a plate after a long journey that was stewing inside him all along just so his short life would be of use to you since he knew you need all the help you can get when he's gone. What a jar.
Thats why it hit me so hard. In that cruel and forsaken world there only so little jolly warriors who you can rely on. In the end he went out like a champ.

@@MutsuTenpei He is in a island near Raya Lucaria, in the swamp. South of the castle. Scenic Island Grace is the name of the Grace there.
@@GuilhermeLPC He was there before going to the manor for me. I found him there when I found the Manor's Scout Rya as well. I also did check that area and he wasn't there

Just to help shorten things a bit you can get to Fort Laiedd far faster by going to the Erdtree Gazing Hill - grace (north of the grand lift of dectus), up the hill to the north of the grace, past the Wyndham ruins where you fight the Tibia Mariner and right to the same grace at Seethewater River. Hope that helps

When he laid there and exploded, I cried out, "ALEXANDER!!!" and swore I would never forget him. I gave his innards to the mini jar lad in Jar Village, he will continue uncle Alexander's legacy.
To live without regrets and true to self to the very end. Alexander lived a blessed life.
So after Radahn, I exhausted all speech options with them, then I went to the field to free him and he's not there.... any thoughts?
