I remember doing Collins St shorts in the middle of the day 6 and 6 you had to drive hard. Now days it would it would be almost a pleasure. No double parked taxis or car drivers queuing across Kings St. Thank goodness that table was one of the first to be CBMed by the starter whenever any other table needed to be covered or a shortage of rolling stock.
@@barryneilsen6007 Fortunately swapping shifts mostly for Lates I rarely did Collins St ‘City Shorts’, Racing the clock between Spencer St and I suppose Brunswick St siding. Hell for the conductor selling or checking tickets for heaps of people only going a stop or 2. Wish we had those concrete blocks beside the tracks eastbound where cars and taxis often double parked waiting for people coming out of offices, sending following traffic onto the tram lines and holding us up when we had no time to spare. All were happy when that shift was abandoned any day as the crew was needed on a ‘real’ service that actually went somewhere.
