Could you explain that to me? Did they concede because they knew all they had were 2/2 max critters or some such? THat just seemed odd to toss the game that early.
@@AC3handle I looked back at this situation and while I still think the opponent scooped too early, it looks like it was due to frustration from not finding Red Mana. They drew an additional 4 cards from the enchanted Saboteur and a few from turns and still found no red. They discarded two creatures with red in their costs in the process. And while we don't know what 3 cards remained in their hand, if we assume they had red in their costs, the opponent was probably correct in that this game is over, especially if they don't find a red source on that immediate next turn. Can't play Commander, 3 dead cards in hand, losing board presence and ability to defend as the opponent is developing, and having to attack in order to attempt to find Red with extra draws after whiffing 4 times in a row. I'd probably be pretty salty too if that happened to me but hey, that's one of the challenges of a 3-color deck. 🤷♂️
Ayula not only is cheap manawise, she also: - Turns every creature into removal (basically card advantage/tempo) - Turns cheap creatures into valuable ETB effects by pumping +1/+1 counters - Most bears are low CMC, making decks aggro. - In EDH there are support cards that turn extra lands into bears.
@@Kydrou I don’t think Nevermore would actually be a problem, but I don’t know, Drannith is a 1/3 and Ayula runs a very high volume of 2/2s. Not that it would be impossible to deal with, but it’d be a lot harder than an enchantment.
It's a little disappointing that Ashcoat Bear isn't legal in Historic, because a Grizzly Bear with Flash is hilarious with Ayula. There are actually a surprising number of decent common/uncommon bears that aren't in Historic - I think my favorite is Druid's Familiar, simply because a 4/4 bear for 3G that gives another one of your creatures +2/+2 on ETB (Soulbond, baby!) is pretty much what Ayula wants.
This was so much fun to watch! Definitely need more Historic Brawl content. Zada is coming out in March of the Machine as a Multiverse legend. It would be perfect for budget brawl.
I can just imagine Mondrak starting a ritual to become an invincible god, chanting ominous hymns to the glory of New Phyrexia as dark orchestral music swells in the background, only to get dropkicked by some random bear, dying instantly
You never really finished the story, but I remember that modern Ayula deck that was a hogaak slayer. It inspired me to build Ayula in edh right after. Love the bears and a non-budget version would be lots of fun!
I think the point is that Ayula in arena is always budgetish because most cards you want in the deck are common and uncommon, that what he was saying is the best way to build a budget deck, pick a commander who wants the budget cards
@@pedrof6767lol no. The point is that Ayula is deceptively strong, even though it seems like jank. The Baulder's Gate cards really annoy me. Wilson is a real card, Wizards just put the wrong version on Arena. Hard to leave it out though, just because its a bear.
@@MTGGoldfish Am I the only one that really loves the Specialize mechanic? Basically just 6-sided cards, which isn’t impossible in paper but obviously works better in digital (like shuffling)
Once March of the Machines comes out, you'll get "Surrak and Goreclaw" which will be a nice end curve topper that's considered a bear! I wish the other bear was feasible to play, but it's an 8/8 for 8 with hexproof which feels enticing lol
Ayula is nuts! Historic Brawl seems to be the right home for her to really shine. That last game was kinda ridiculous. Entertaining for sure. Your opponent had some nice sneaky plays. Finally some justice for bears. Im playing normal 60 cards bears for while with ayula influence and groundskeepers and its one of the most funny deck i have. Thank you for this video
Don't be afraid to get way more involved with the land base, especially in mono colored decks! You can easily run 8-10 colorless lands for added utility. Field of Ruin, Demolition Field, Hashep Oasis, even the colorless scry lands are all solid picks at common/uncommon. Also, I like Wilt over Return to Nature, or better yet You Line Up the Shot.
One of my favorite historic brawl decks is brigi storm because you either gain a massive board with very fringe cards like change of fortune and Mishra's command, or you get run over or controlled out. It's awesome
Older video but just for the record, the opponent in game 1 could cast Flaxen Intruder because of the way adventures work. Even though it's your card in exile, being able to cast it from exile is tied to the adventure spell itself, so whoever resolved the adventure gets to cast the creature.
To answer ur question, nissa is not a problem for the format. That yarok deck was a beginner creating yarok and again seemed budget and honestly, u haven’t seen any really strong decks among these like cruxias, atraxa, and rusko. Nissa might be the best mono green deck, but the top tier decks all have a crazy amount of interaction and green is the weakest color rn by far somehow.
Was playing this for a long time Syr Faren, the Hengehammer, becasue it was great at going very fast and everyone else wanted to durddle, before Ayula existed.
Love the budget Historic Brawl decks. Have you played with this one more and found issues with the power level of the decks you're paired against? I've been playing it and I keep getting paired with some pretty busted commanders.
Tribute to the World Tree seems like a natural fit. The other easy upgrades would be for the mana base, Nykthos, Castle Garrenbrig, Lair of the Hydra, etc.
Had a game either yesterday or the day before using my Nissa to ult twice in one turn because I allowed a single point of damage on her. She's busted, as long as you are fast enough to pop off.
So, Nissa AA is very good in brawl, but for craterhoof in the command zone Jetmir is way better. The best mono green commander is Vivien on the Hunt. You pod over and over for value and still get to pod a craterhoof out using your command zone.
The Wilson on Arena isn't the same in paper. The rare Wilson, Bear Comrade has specialize. The uncommon Wilson, Refined Grizzly can't be countered and has vigilance.
Yeah, I left it out because it's a mythic for budget purposes, but it is a great upgrade for sure. Making Bears at instant speed is super powerful with Ayula.
Hey Seth I was thinking of making that bridgevine deck that you made and I know bridge from below is banned in modern but I want WOTC to unban bridge from below because it's safe to unban today but I want to replace bridge from below with magus of the bridge and do you think that it will be good in the deck and today's standards for modern?
I've now seen Pact of Negation used to counter Striped Bears.
My friend has an Ayula commander deck that is actually scary for casual. I can confirm I have seen someone counter a werebear of all things. 😂

I believe we can all die knowing we have seen everything.
Love how you played heralds horn calling beast rather than bear and opponent still blew it up instantly
Craterhoof exists. The fear is real.
The pirate opponent that conceded after you played young bear of all things must have been INSANELY tilted
