I used to be an over-the-road truck driver. All those hours listening to Dan telling me about the Mongol hordes or the bone fields of Stalingrad were so memorable. I might have been at the wheel, but my mind was flying. Trucking was the most intellectual job I ever had because I had the time to really sit and listen to rich podcasts like his.
I heard his mongol series on RUclips but I didn't see anything about the ostfront, is it not on RUclips?
Heart
@@steventhompson399 It's not, unfortunately
@@steventhompson399 I'm sure by now you may have looked it up, but the answer is no. It's on his website for sale though, think it's like 13 dollars for the whole series. I haven't gotten around to it yet but I have heard good things about it.
Same here- I’m a telecomunications field tech and spend a lot of time on the road and have gained so much from him and others!
When I was in high school Dan Carlin's episodes on WW1 were first coming out, and they inspired me to go to University to study the subject. I graduated long ago. I follow this channel and watch every lecture because of my love for learning about the First World War. Feels so odd seeing him on here!
Holy cow exactly, I just finished getting my history masters, thank you Dan
Blueprint for Armageddon was instrumental in sparking my interest in the Great War

Very interesting conversation from both sides. A joy to listen to. Thank you!
Wonderful!
Wonderful interview, masterful interviewer
Kudos to Dan Carlin and the Museum for making available such a valuable learning experience as "War Remains" seems to be. I have not yet experienced it myself, but I'm sure it's unforgettable. A great interview, as interesting as it was useful. I couldn't help but wryly smile when, about 37:15, Dan--apparently on January 20th, 2022, just a bit before Ukraine began to lead the news--was considering scenarios involving "strategic competition around the world" and problems arising from alliances. He gave as an example waking up to find that the Russians had invaded The Baltics. You can almost hear Fate chuckling in the background...A month or so later, a bit further south, and no alliance, but...yeah. VERY problematic, all the same. I happen to be making this comment on Veterans Day, which of course used to be known as "Armistice Day," for the one that went into effect on 11/11/18. And here we are today, anguishing over the same sorts of circumstances. "War remains," indeed.
My Grandfather was gassed in WW1. He returned home. My mother was conceived and was born in 1922, 3 months after he died. Her mother did not receive benefits because he did not die in battle. My family suffered for many years. True story.
My great uncle was irish who came to America and when America entered WW1 he joined up. He was killed only a few days before the war ended, his name is on a statue in flushing queens. since he was killed in battle the money that his family received who still lived in Cavan Ireland used it to buy a whole bunch of land. Much of that land is still in the family, about 10 or so years ago my cousins sold an unused portion of it for quarrying.
Dan Carlin, good guest choice! Had to click right away )
I love Dan! It’s a strange autistic love lol. The man knows how to play with big ideas. That’s all my brain wants to do sometimes so Dan is literally a performance enhancer. I can’t pay attention to what I’m doing unless I’m thinking about something else viscerally. When my dumb big brain is useless…that intuitive stuff like finding your hardcore history compendium downloads from a few years ago…. No money no hassle and one e-mail. My downloads are just on the main sign in page. Somebody did something to help me personally and that made my day. That is Dan’s company.
Side note....that metal (prolly tin) bi-plane in the background used to be mine. unless it was made more than once (with those same wheels and propeller) .
Yay!!!!! Dan!!!!! Yay ww1!!!!
Not so yay for ww1...
IMHO, WW1 must of been a sensory over load. The sound, smell, and visions must of been a struggle of the mind everyday. Being a soldier who was basically stuck in one spot. Kind of a wash, rinse and replete. Day in day out, with no control and no news.
What matters is whos controlling the cameras and what their population sees. See Russia only a couple months after this video was published, like 15K dead in a 3 weeks and countless wounded and surrendered.
"short attention spans of modern" people is an absolute fantasy; eons of evolution Did not change overnight because the quantity of media available to choose from expands exponentially every month or so. The truth is, inexperienced and immature marketing people make those statements.
Excellent video ---- but I totally disagree with Mr. Carlin's description of the January 6, 2021 events as an insurrection. Perhaps he will rethink those remarks. History will definitely show that it was NOT an insurrection. The people were unarmed; and they were allowed into the Capitol building by the personnel guards.
Poor muppet
Yeah it actually strikes a great deal of the world as a bit pathetic, the way Americans characterize this little episode (rowdy sports games are known to do more damage. The only way you can rationalize this is if this was more a religious transgression - violating sacred temples etc.)
Yanks acting like, and seemingly genuinely convincing themselves and working themselves into a frantic stupor over the belief that this was an insurrection, a really bad one.
It demonstrates how embarrassingly privileged and sheltered Yanks are - perhaps they ought to take a looksie at wht real insurrections (that theyve sponsored) look like.
Its just sad
In fact history will all but prove that IT WAS an insurrection and attempted coup.
...no, people were armed and they forced their way in. there's lots of evidence for that, if you're willing to put aside your political biases and look at it objectively.
A little disappointing to hear Dan use the establishment term "insurrection " for Jan 6th. The threat of that protest has been exaggerated beyond all proportion to try and attack our liberties. Love Dan nonetheless
Ah yes chanting for the head of the VP was “exaggerated”. give me a break. If you listen to his Common Sense podcast you’d know Dan has been an anti-trump conservative for the past couple years and thank god for it.
Also, You should know Dan voted for Biden. Lmao
they had armed milita members there. people died.
