Hey there! Hope you all manage to stay safe and healthy with everything that's going on. Turns out I'll be working from home for a while, so hoping to pump out videos a bit more frequently with the time I get back. Thanks so much for watching and for all the support around this project!
One of the most relaxing and well-filmed devlogs I've seen. I can tell you put a lot of work into these. One suggestion on the game. You should add awareness between enemies to prevent them from bunching up into a pile as they follow the player. Love this series and looking forward to the next video.
Suggestion: When the character is looking up and we can see his back, the weapon should have different orientation (it should go from tope left shoulder to the right of the waist) in order to make logical sense when the character changes looking sides.
yes, but a secondary detail. He's skipped it for now to focus on the core game elements. Features he's implemented : 34. Features he wants to implement: 648. Suggestions from his youtube minions: 17. an important software dev will avoid too many nuiances during the first pass. like the ol' "paralysis by analysis"
@@elijahfrickingourd What he is saying is, when the character is walking or looking to the left side in the game, the weapon attached on the back should be attached to thr characters left hand side and when the character is looking right, the weapon should also switch to the characters right hand side.
“Hey guys, it’s been a few months since my last devlog, and I admit that I haven’t been that productive with Dauphin lately, but what I want to show you today is my new tank. It’s my third 500 litre tank, and I’ve got a lot of ideas for it already. It will probably house most of the recently donated 300 shrimp I have on standby so if you’ve been waiting to see your shrimp get integrated into The Society you won’t need to wait much longer. It’s 4am on Sunday, and I’ve been up for a few hours already because I couldn’t sleep. I’ve completely redone Tank 1’s sand waterfall with a finer grit, and as you’ll see it’s functioning a lot closer to what I had originally planned. The multi story housing project in Tank 2 has had 3 new levels added in response to the population explosion, and this added space should hopefully reduce the tension and violent de-clawing that we’ve seen recently. I’ll be taking a few weeks off from RUclips so I can focus on my glaziers apprenticeship, but don’t forget that suggestions are still open on which tank design I will build first. I’ll probably spend the rest of the morning preparing the latest tank, and see if any of my friends want to come with me to the shrimp farm in the afternoon. Talk again soon”
I think having the crab claws down while they're idling and then having them up (How they are in the video) once they become aggressive would be a good visual indication.
Thank you for making dev logs on this game! I love going around the internet finding different cool games people are making and this one seems like one to be exited for! Keep up the good work.
I’m a beginner to coding and game development as this year I’ve taken my first class in it at school but your videos are so intertwined peaceful to watch! Absolutely love the work and It looks awesome so far! Hope you’re safe during these rough times and the lil shrimps are so cute!! :))
Beautiful video, as always! Just a small point on the upwards walking animation, in case this hasn't been fixed yet: When facing downwards, the stick on his back is bottom left to upper right, but when he turns around and walks upwards, the stick should be from bottom right to upper left, but instead it's the same as when facing downwards. Make sure to "rotate" everything properly, when the character faces in a different direction. Keep up the good work, and I love those shrimp clips!
Thanks for the vids devduck, your videos have taught me to pace myself and maintain a nice work life balance when developing games as a hobby. I used to game dev at any spare moment of time i had, ignoring everything else and this quickly led to burnout. Slow and steady wins the race!
I'm always looking forward to these! Watching your dev logs always puts me in a good mood, and it's great inspiration too! Keep up the good work DevDuck!
Hi DevDuck, I just wanted to say that you inspired me to pursue my dream of publishing my own app. It’s called Koalaclysm and I just released it on the AppStore with GooglePlay coming soon. Before your videos i didn’t think i could make an app and get my computer engineering degree at the same time. I am extremely thankful to you and everything you do! Please keep making videos and sharing your process! Stay safe!
I have an awesome suggestion, these corrupted enemies, there should a cutscene when you enter the beach some normal crabs step into the sea and then come back corrupted.I have another idea about the story. A science company found a weird dark blue metal in the sea. They took the metal and then started experimenting it on a crab, and the crab escaped. He went into the sea infecting every animal in existence. You,the main character , want to find a cure for this, at the end , you battle a blue whale (that is infected) and after that all the animals should turn back to normal. Game suggestions: -crafting sistem -npcs -a companion (which you can choose when the game starts) -hidden rooms -bosses -underwater levels -a submarine for the underwater levels -easter egg for your shrimps -customizable character (not too exagerated, just hair and mustache) -difficulty modes -after you beat the main story, unlock hard mode. More enemies, less health , harder bosses! -when you beat hard mode, unlock "'devduck" as a companion -when you battle an enemy, they turn back to their normal form -make the character talk, make it live! -at the end put an credit scene (obviously) -at the end of the credit scene put an little easter egg to your next game PS:i know that these are very hard to do for you and that maybe you should do something easier but i just had these great ideas watching your awesome videos, hope you like them!
Make crabs also give up chasing at one point, meaning that if they haven't been able to hit a player for X amount of seconds, then give up and return to their original location
Hey! The game is looking pretty cool, and pretty beautiful. One of the things that I don't like a lot is that the character seems to have not so much detail as the scenery. I would recommend adding shadows in the character's neck and shirts. Another thing you can do is making a pathfinding script in the crabs, so they don't stay stuck in a rock or a tree and slowing they down a little bit OR adding a Sprint Mechanic. But anyways, I think that this game has a lot of potential, and can be an incredible game.
@@DevDuck No worries, man! I love your work, and would really love to help giving feedbacks! But, also, don't put too much work in the player sprite, because it can be more detailed than the actually scenery. A little bit of shadow in the character already makes a lot of difference. Keep up the good work, can't wait to play Dauphin!
As a fellow indie game dev (who will hopefully get videos started soon) it has been great to follow you along as you begin development! Keep up the great work man!

Oh my god. The game looks Amazing. You could add a Basic hunger bar. For example Berry bushes, or maybe raw craw arms and cooked ones. Otherwise, The game looks really polished, even if It's like 2% done! 😊
An idea I have is that when an enemy detects the player, the player should unholster his weapon to add more polish, since attacking with the weapon on their back seems a bit odd
Love the devlogs! Maybe you could add a way for animals to be in like tanks in water or on land, and in the game your character can make little families of animals.
I understand that is prototype, but to change that pretty weird look, you could try run hit animation faster and add particles effects, also to make crabs movement more interesting, you can plus Random.Range(0, 2) to players positions two axes as the position to move, for instance, if the players X coordinate is 5, crab can move to 6.
Great video as always! One thing of feedback, the sticks colours don't really fit in my opinion, just something seems off! But lovely implementation Also I love how natural your living space is, I need that in the futurr
I like your videos, I've been developing a game and your system for equipping different items gave me some ideas. Though im keeping my combat separated to move in direction of the arrow keys and attack towereds the mouse for a tank style.

i like when enemies are in 1 tile so when you kill them you hear like 15 enemie death sounds coming from 1 tile lmao
I agree wholeheartedly about it being relaxing and well-filmed. A pleasure to watch for sure.
DevDuck that’s easily achievable through a point effector although you wouldn’t get as much control as you would just editing the enemy script
Suggestion: When the character is looking up and we can see his back, the weapon should have different orientation (it should go from tope left shoulder to the right of the waist) in order to make logical sense when the character changes looking sides.
