Could you tell me the width of the lathe bed? I have a Taig Micro Lathe II, but for cue I need a longer bed, or maybe buy another bed and somehow align them well. Thanks
I know it would be a little over the top but, could you imagine putting an LED strip in this cue. The glow would look pretty cool. You could have an on/off button in the bumper.

What made you choose the hightower lathe I'm wanting to get a lathe just for tapering but I'm on the fence between the hightower lathe and the taper shaper by unique.

It sounds like with a typical piece of pool cue wood, you would need the pass through headstock to be at least 1.5 inches diameter. Am I correct? When I am looking at specs for lathes to purchase, I do not see this spec listed. Is there something else it might be called?
It's called "spindle bore", the thing is that for cuemaking you do need at least a 1.5" spindle bore and 36" between centres , those specs make up for a quite big and expensive metal lathe that is usuallly an overkil for building cues, hence the niche market for specialized tools like the cuesmith
What kind of epoxy do you use? I just got some to try out and in the instructions it says to pour in 1/8 inch layers, or else it could heat up too much and ruin the project. Did I get the wrong kind? Thanks!
I use totalboat high-performance and slow hardener or totalboat deep set there is a link in the description for total boat if your interested in it also using a pressure decreased the chance of thermal cracking on deeper pours

Thank you. And mainly went to carbon fiber for strength and stability. I do the cues with a 5/8 in wood insert in each end for the joint pin and the weight bolts. I have now set up the lathe for live tooling so I use the router and endmill to bore the holes for the inserts.

I can make them from a total weight with shaft of qround 16.5 all the way to 21oz. The feel of them as you shoot also is great. And that is not just from me but multiple people who have shot with or own one.
Jeremy has made me 2 cues and both were around 17 and 1/2 oz. Because I like a lighter cue. Both really shoot well, but I think the carbon fiber core will make them play even better (just a guess). Wait until you see the next one he is making . If it turns out how I have envisioned it, it going to be killer.

The cues are cored with carbon fiber cores as well as the epocy alone is actually harder than wood when matched with the wood they each make for an even stronger material. They play great and have agreat feel iv spent alot of time designing them with play in mind before looks and then make them look awesome. I respect your opinion and that you are a veteran builder and I always love learning new things from other builders I make full wood cues as well and it's a completely diffrent setup and technique. The same things like it won't last, hold up, or play as good were being said about CF shafts when they first came out. Just because it is diffrent doesn't mean it wrong. Thanks again for watching.

Love your work. A suggestion, put some wood chips under the core as well so looks uniform. Often I roll an epoxy cue and it rolls back to its bottom.

I used my cenergy carbon fiber shaft it has a G2 tip and you can check the lathes out at cuesmith.com.

How much does that epoxy butt weigh ? If it's more than 16 oz, it would be too heavy. That much epoxy kills the feel too. It looks pretty though.

The pour material won't hold up. There's a reason cues are made the way they are. I have 17 years full-time experience building cues.
