No, i never tried Neopastels, only Sennelier and Holbein and believe they are the best oil pastels.Holbein is a bit weaker in pigment as i showed in this video
@@julialesnichyartist8549 I found a 225 set of Holbeins on eBay for under 300.00. There are some missing and some have been used but still a good deal. I like the Neopastels very much. They are lightfast and work great under Sennelier. Not as soft as Sennelier.
Yes, it is possible to use various brands of ops when painting.. i think that acrylics underpainting works really well as it saves you lots of ops.. i like the softness as i can blend them with fingers and no dust! please see more of my works at instagram.com/julia_lesnichy. Pay attention to recent indoor still life done in oil pastels
I work on Canson canvas paper and Canson multiboard. You can work on any surface like canvas paper, linen, pastel paper like Mi tainted and wood board. I will do a video about it later
@@julialesnichyartist8549 So is this Canson canvas paper? I find that the surface used makes a difference to the outcome, so any observations and conclusions are specific to that surface.
No, this particular video was done on toned Strathmore paper, which I use for charcoal or pencil drawings. You can use it with oil pastels, but it is very thin and can warp if you use the turpentine to blend pastels. So I work on thicker boards like Canson art board. I found out that Canson canva paper works really well with oil pastels too. It doesn't warp when I apply the turp. You can view my recent still life done on Canson art board and the painting of horses, which I did on Canson canva paper at instagram.com/julia_lesnichy
this is so true! I love them, they are very soft and creamy, but Holbeins is a bit harder and they are better to add layer and change color or value.. this is the secret of holbeins
Wow, fantastic comparison. So I can achieve different effects because of the different hardness. Thank you!
You are welcome! i will post more tips
This was great, Julia. I am curious if you have tried Neopastels and what you think of them. Will watch your other videos.

@@julialesnichyartist8549 The Neopastels are soft enough to work over Sennelier. I worked back and forth. I even used some Mungyos.

Holbein seem to be similar to Cray-Pas Specialist, which also comes in square shape. Cray-Pas is much more cheaper to buy.
I never tried Cray Pas, but Holbein is very good quality. A bit hard compared to Sennelier
They are NOTHING alike!
Please tell us what surface you are working on.
