Another example of the downhill slide in kitchen appliances. I am 74 years old. My mother had a GE electric can opener purchased in 1950. It worked on all types of cans, never tipped over, etc. Had a magnet to catch the cut-off lid so it didn't fall into the contents of the opened can. Never broke. Easy and safe for me and my sister to use as children. Eventually, the machine found its way to our family summer house, where it is still functioning perfectly!
Totally agree with you. I am sure I used a few electric can openers prior to hurricane Harvey. I never had a problem. I must have bought six after the hurricane before I found one that worked. It just stopped working so I am hunting once again. This process is very expensive and very frustrating. I may end up searching flea markets.
Thank you so much for the review my mother has tremors in her hands so that Hamilton beach can opener sounds perfect and as you were explaining the issues with some of them it hit home for me because I've bought one electric can opener and was not satisfied with it so this was very helpful

Thank you so much I used the Farberware from Walmart, it didn't work so well. It took a few times around to cut the can and it was hard to see the cut and pull apart. I'm going to return it. I thougt it being with the name Farberware that it would be good and worth it.
Saw the plug-in winner on the table and instantly knew it was going to win. My family has been using it for 10 years without issue except for one: sometimes fussy to get can into position. Otherwise nearly the perfect gadget. We were sick of hand crank models failing so much so we got the electric version.
I absolutely love the Hamilton Beach can opener! I have an arm injury that kicks up when opening multiple cans for chili and this is a life saver! I hate things on my counter but this has earned a spot!
I had trouble opening up cans with a manual can opener because of arthritis. I don't know how many brands of manual openers I bought in the previous 10 years. My husband finally bought me the ATK winner, the Hamilton Beach electric can opener about 3 years ago. I love that it cuts the lid from the side which is added safety and I recommend it. I still gloat over, it to myself, because I struggled for so long. The only problem I could see was if the electricity ever went out, I would have a problem. So I found a manual can open that also cuts from the side, as a backup. It has a large turning knob on top, though that too is somewhat harder for me to use, but it is better than nothing if the electricity goes out.
I love my Tornado F4. Similar in style to the Kitchen Mama but smaller. Have had it for 4 years and it's never let me down. For those of us with limited counter space, lacking places to plug things in, or limited dexterity, the units like the Tornado F4 are heaven sent. Best thing about the "slowness" of them? You can multitask! You click it on, hit the button and do something else. This really comes into play when making things that require lots of cans - like chili with beans. I can open all my cans, hands-free, while simultaneously browning my hamburger or minced chuck.
We've used that HB one for over a year now and have grown to love it. Just watch out for the occasional metal "whisker" on the sides of the can though.
I have the Proctor Silex you showed, and yes it is very finicky. It also just died - the can pops off and won't open. This video was perfectly timed. Thank you.
My favorite is the rechargeable walk and go can opener. I have tried many of the battery operated can openers because I am a stroke survivor who has lost the use of one arm so I can no longer get the standard electric can openers to work for me because I don't have a second hand to hold the can up while I operate the handle. The battery operated ones work great for about the first pair of batteries but once that initial pair of batteries gave out and I changed the batteries, the can opener always seemed to poop out. Like I said I tried multiple different brands in different price points and it didn't matter whether I spent $10 or $30. They just weren't worth it! The rechargeable walk and go can opener has been my go-to and my saving grace. I cannot operate a manual can opener because of my disabilities.
@@philippapay4352 my pleasure! It takes a bit to get used to but once you do you will love it. It is about $26.99 and available online at many retailers including Walmart so it's very accessible. I hope you are able to find one and think it is helpful to you.

An electric or battery operated can opener may not be for everyone, but that doesn't justify looking down your nose at those who might want one and especially at those who need one. 🤦♂
Doesn't seem like that would be any of your business.
HAMILTON BEACH IS JUNK!!!!! wouldn't give 10cents for any of them... I bought one and it keeps kicking the can off every 1/4 "
Too Funny. The one can opener doesn't tip over because you kept your hand on the back as you have to keep it depressed to run. And the one that sits on top and takes 40 seconds you acted like you were in fear of it and wouldn't put your hand on it. I appreciate you giving reviews, but report the facts and please don't be dramatic on the product.
as far as speed gose what do you want. Kitchen mama is total junk.
Don't eat food out of a can
