This is a typical day in the life of a local Hawaiian teenage boy. They were teenagers when this song came out and it became a hit because all boys in Hawaii related to this!
This song was recorded in 2009 when Roman de Peralta was 18 as Iam is now! It is a very popular classic Jawaiian (Island Reggae) song in Hawai'i and other Pacific Islands and what Iam grew up listening to and singing. The scene on the beach is just to show what local guys do - go surfing and play music (kanikapila - jamming). That's why Iam chose it for his "hometown song" in the finale. I guess you've seen Roman's reaction to seeing Iam perform it on national TV and his new video singing it again. The original recording has made the iTunes charts (#27 last time I looked) even though it's from 2009. Same thing happened to James Blunt, but "Monsters" went to #1 for him, all thanks to Iam.

Iam seems to give a fuller, deeper sound to the track. He is young but sounds more mature than the original. Iam would appeal to the most diverse age group. In my humble opinion.
