    We spent the weekend in the West Canada Lake Wilderness Area restoring West Lake #1 lean-to. This lean to really needed some love. There was rot in some base logs and the roof was beyond shot. Occupants will no longer get wet during rain events. Hooty hoot!

    I first visited that lean-to in summer 1972 during the tail end of Hurricane Agnes, when there was a ranger in residence in the cabin in the clearing. It's a much-loved spot. Thanks for your hard work.

    Ran into one of you on your way out to Piseco. I was going in. Stopped to admire your work. One of the nicest spots on the NPT but couldn't stay due to scheduling. Hello from Saranac Lake. I will return to that lean-to.

    Wow thank you so much for doing this. I haven't been on that trail yet one day I will check it out. Is there a way you guys can do a video on the process of the whole thing. I usually go up to the Catskills one day I need to volunteer and help rebuild a lean to as well. Thank you for the time and effort you put in I can't express how much I appreciate it.

    Awesome! Does the DEC allow you to cut trees for the lean to? Do you have to cut trees that are already down? You don't haul all that in there do you?

    • @twotonadk
      @twotonadk  8 месяцев назад

      We prep the lean to logs offsite and they are flown in with other material by NYSDEC. In some cases, we do “mule” material to site with human work horses!This obviously requires site visits prior to project to get accurate dimensions in order to properly select, scribe, and cut the logs to fit a specific lean to. Tree cutting on site is limited to only hazard trees or trees that cause interference and has to be specifically approved by NYSDEC forester. The goal is always to minimize or not cut any trees on site to minimize impact to natural resources. Thanks for the feedback.😁
