You motivated me to start painting after watching about 200 RUclips videos I finally decided to paint some chairs that I bought on craigs list. I love what I've created! I'm not scared anymore I'm obsessed with this paint and plan to do lot's more. Thank you
Lovely, thanks Amanda and Julie. You had me up until 1am last night after watching your videos, I had so much fun playing with different techniques. I have the top of my dresser just perfect and having seen this, now I know what I’m going to do with the bottom of the dresser. Perfect!
Thanks you so much! You are so encouraging! The light- bulb in my brain finally went off when you said 'the idea is to get the wash to pick up the brush marks left behind' Aha!!! now I get it...same thing goes with the dark wax...so even when there aren't actual details to embellish, you've created them with the textured painting style! Got It!! READY TO START! :)
Omg do glad I found a fellow Long Islander when I typed in white wash! I’m doing my very first piece and I have a feeling I’m going to become very addicted to this paint! lol at where you said about watching 75 videos because that was me! I finally took the plunge though! I’m the process of doing my bathroom vanity. Wish me luck! Glad to know there’s another store I can get supplies
Amanda I have watched hundreds of tutorials on chalk painting some really do my head in talking and doing nothing and have really long tutorials 😫but I have watched some of yours as I've only rescently found you on u tube your the best at talking through and doing what your tutorials are about I can learn a lot watching you and don't get fed up listening your very good at what you do just thought I would complement you 🤗
Amanda I love you and I love your hair! You explain everything so wonderfully. Your demonstrations are so educational and I have learned so much from this website. I am surprised with the way you dress that you don't get more paint on you. LOL I wish I was close to some of your shops but I am not and so disappointing. Keep up the great work and your video girl does a great job filming and getting up close when needed. Thank You to all !
too funny...open the darn can. Just what I needed to get me going! So glad I stumbled upon you! So helpful and encouraging. Trying my hand on a small hallway table. Your videos are great..Thank you for all the wonderful tips.
I love your video! I'm going to try this technique with Annie Sloan graphite over a French linen painted table I did. I already lightly waxed the piece about a month ago. Will I need to sand off the wax first?
Hi Stephanie! The paint will stick better to an Unwaxed surfaced, but I'd suggest you try it first over the wax before you do an extra step of removing it. If it doesn't stick as well as you'd like then you can either remove the wax or paint another coat on top of the wax before you do your wax 👍🏼 good luck!
Hello! This is absolutely beautiful! I plan on doing this to my dining room table in these exact colors . Because its a table opposed to a dresser, I was wondering what sealant I should use to help avoid as much staining as possible? I know you typically use wax to seal chalk paint but is there another product that acts as a better protectant? Something to maybe even gloss the top of the table?
Hi! So Wax is really the best sealant when it comes to Chalk Paint® and if you apply a few coats and buff it using a buffing brush (suitepieces.com/store/ultimate-buffing-brush/dp/478) you can get some shine. You just need to be careful with the table ( tablecloths, no hot plates, etc. ) for the first 30 days. Wax is also better because if you do damage your finish you can easily repair it! If you insist on a topcoat you could use Artisan Enhancements Clear topcoat sealer or High Performance Topcoat in Gloss. Just keep in mind, you will have to seal the table FIRST with one of these products THEN paint THEN seal again. This avoids bleed through. You will also have to apply a few coats and if you need to touch it up you may have to repaint. Hope this helps!!
Can I use the chalk paint over a piece of furniture from the factory that has a coat of some sort of wax or polyurethene on it? Do I need to sand it first? Also.. a friend wants to put chalk paint on over some pine boards that have a sealer on them.. would that work OK without sanding first? Thanks for your help.. this is a great video and yes.. I've watched tons of them too! I like quick and easy!
Hi Amanda, just watched your video and as you said "you might have watched so many videos" let me tell you you are right and I found your one the most informative. I was wondering if you can help me. I bought the Annie Sloan paint at the weekend and I decided to have a go with it at my old fashion wardrobe yesterday. The colour I bought is Emile, but when I open it I thought it was a bit to dark for my liking so I put a first coat of white (pure) then the Emile and I don't know where I've gone wrong 😔 it's not what I expected. I've ended with a colour mixed up that it's not what I expected. Seen your video I think I might be able to do a wash and save all he work I've done. Hope to hear from you. Cris
+Cris Thomson Hi Cris!! Thank you so much for your kind words! Apologies for the delayed response! Hoping your project is going well...but I would say, yes, a wash would be fabulous over the Emile. Let me know how it worked out!
Love Your videos! I would Love to one Day visit one of Your Stores. "My Dream" I have a question about kitchen cabinets, I was wondering if I would ruin my chalk paint if I went over it with a polyurethane? After wax, or without wax? I just don't know if the wax will rub off while cleaning etc. I have seen many People do it on tutorial's, but it makes Me nervous. I don't want to ruin the cabinet, or have the polyurethane make the cabinets yellow over time. What is your suggestion? Thanks for Your time, Tambi
Hi Tambi! We have tons of customers who do their kitchen cabinets with wax! The key is to be gentle with the cabinets (No frying or sauce making) for 30 days while the wax cures. We also recommend after you paint and wax, wax your cabinets again the next day. This ensures you have total protection and coverage. We also recommend you only use clear wax. This is so if you do scuff or need to repair your cabinets, you can simply! We don't ever recommend poly because it can pull wood tannins and yellow. It is also harder to repair with a poly. Hope this helps!
How exciting Margaret! There aren’t a ton of hotels in the area but Melville which is about 10 minutes from Huntington has some business hotels. The Hilton is one that comes to mind. They’re building a new hotel just down the road in a couple years...can’t wait to be able to send customers there!
You can always add water to the paint instead of spraying but we like to add it after. If you feel like your wash is too heavy you can always add more water to lighten it up!
Hi Herma! You don’t have to wait, but waiting at least 24 hours will help to keep the dry brush set. If you do it sooner, it may just wipe some of it away 👌🏼
oh my GOSSSSSSHHHHHH HI AMANDA ok so im redoing my bathroomin a peacock theme and since i found your videos im mesmerized so im just watching when wait what is that piece in the background???? PEACOCKKKKK????????? AM I SEEEEING PEACOCKKKKKKK?????? Can you please tell me what colors and technique you used ? do you have a video?
Hi Ruth! Your eyes do not deceive you that is a peacock server in the back! We painted that piece with Pure White Chalk Paint® then added Artisan Enhancements Pearl Plaster on top. We stenciled the doors with a Peacock Stencil and used a teal metallic foil! All those products can be found at Suitepieces.com!

Beautiful hair!
very nice! gonna do it.
Can you do this technique on bare wood like oak cabinets?
+suitepieces did you apply clear wax in between the Paris Grey and the Old White? Thanks I'm loving your videos. Wish I lived closer.
Hi, We did not. We do not clear wax until the very end. It's the last step to fully seal and protect.
Open the Darn can.....Amanda, you're a Treasure
😉😂

Hi - do you do the wash before or after clear waxing?? Thanks - love the video!
Hi Kim!! We do the wash before we wax 👍🏼
Ah dammit!!
How many coats of paris grey did you put on the dresser before starting the wash?
+Jennfen We did 1.5 coats of the Paris Grey. One solid coat, then just touched up spots that were not completely covered. Thanks for watching!
Want to visit but want to make it a weekend; can you recommend any places to stay?
How exciting Margaret! There aren’t a ton of hotels in the area but Melville which is about 10 minutes from Huntington has some business hotels. The Hilton is one that comes to mind. They’re building a new hotel just down the road in a couple years...can’t wait to be able to send customers there!
Would you ever cut the top paint with water to get an even lighter glaze effect?
You can always add water to the paint instead of spraying but we like to add it after. If you feel like your wash is too heavy you can always add more water to lighten it up!
Does it matter if washing a darker color over lighter color or vice versa?
Hi Amanda!Do we have to wax firstly before applying the colour wash?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Mary!! You would apply wax AFTER the wash.
Can I do a wash if already waxed my piece?
Unfortunately, we do not recommend doing a wash after waxing. You can remove the wax with odorless mineral spirits then wash, then wax again!
Do you HAVE TO wait several days before you apply the wash/glaze? This is putting me in a serious time crunch.
Hi Herma! You don’t have to wait, but waiting at least 24 hours will help to keep the dry brush set. If you do it sooner, it may just wipe some of it away 👌🏼

Do you wax the paint before doing the wash?
i just did the whole process but my gray was wiped when i used a rag to take the white? maybe wasnt dry enough?
It's possible that it wasn't completely dry. Make sure the paint is fully dry and does not feel cold to the touch before you begin
@@SuitePieces thanks a lot!
Can you do this with the dark grey
Yes!
OK....... so WATCH OUT ...darn can ....you're about to be OPENED !
I love your videos, but I have to tell you. I love your hair! Sorry i know is weird but I had to tell you.
+Olga G Hahaha!! Thanks so much Olga!!! And thanks for watching!
