  • It’s easy to be intimidated by the inoculation process when you’re first diving into the world of mushroom cultivation. If you’re unfamiliar with the “drill and fill” process, it might see like a huge investment to get a proper sized drill bit, an inoculation tool, wax, etc. But did you know you can inoculate larger diameter logs without any of the tools? It's called the Totem method, and while this is typically done with faster moving mushrooms (like oysters) it's a great way to use up larger diameter logs to plant shiitake!

    I just bought a shiitake liquid culture. I’m going to try to inoculate saw dust. “Special”Mushrooms have actually saved my life. After that I learned of so many of the benefits that so many fungi have to us. Great video!

    To speed up fruiting - kick the bucket :) I really mean it - japanese people discovered a method to quickly swiotch into fruiting phase - they hit logs using big sticks, to break mycelium inside then after a few days it starts fruiting. Kick the bucket! 😂

    Thanks for posting. You folks are a great company, helpful, and with some great mushroom strains. I have been getting spawn from you for close to 10 years. Just cutting with snow on the ground trying to beat the ticks. Have a great day! Brice

    It’s going to be 2 weeks this Friday when I cut my logs. Do I need to soak them in water for 24 hrs before I inaculate them, just spray water on them or I don’t need to do anything before I start?

    I recently bought from you and I'm inoculating soon!! One thing that surprised me in the video is that you leave the inoculated logs in the bag for 6 months!? So, during these 6 months in the bag and after I take them out of the bag, well, when do I water the logs? Do they ever need watering?

      If you're doing the process outdoors, typically natural rainfall is enough to keep the logs hydrated (if done in a leaf-litter bag). If the process is done in a plastic bag there is no need for extra water as all of the moisture will be trapped in the bag!

      You need to prepare your logs if they are not fresh. Then you need to keep that level all the time. It depends on the indoor/outdoor, your climate zone, etc. My advice is: don't listen to amateur youtubers(touching mycelium non-sterile way) like this one. Just buy a decent book about it, understand whole process, then choose the best way for you.

    How to get seed of shiitake mushrooms ?

    • @mrtyuprateeksha
      @mrtyuprateeksha 2 месяца назад

      It is mushroom not a plant. You get spores and starts to develop mycelium or buy a "spawn", so mycelium ready to start with.

    Mine grew molds on outside of wood indoors. Is it normal?

    • @FieldandForestProducts
      @FieldandForestProducts  7 месяцев назад

      I would move it to a cooler location. Generally if there is excessive green mold it means it's just a little too warm.

    It seems like you would waste a lot of spawn this way compared to drilling.
