Cool video and all, I like the mechanics. But that is not a turbocharger, it's not making any boost for force induction on an engine. It's more like a vacuum powered turbine spinning some gears to make a lego engine turn. If you could really make a lego engine with a turbocharger on it, I'd be impressed!
Well for that to work, it would need to be combustion, as the reason why turbochargers are so efficient, they push and compress the air into the piston valve, when you have an electric powered lego-motor for a show engine, rather than an engine that uses combustion, the compression of the air has no effect as there is no use for the compressed air
As more than one commenter has said, this is not a turbo. Turbo is short for turbine-compressor. I would agree that this could be called a turbine as it uses a fluid (air) to drive a impeller, but a Turbo it is not
Actually, the turbos people make are not really “turbos” because turbos basically have two parts. The first part sucks in air and shoves it in the engine for more psi but the exhaust part is like a turbine with used gas (or air)
This is a big long shot, but you could make a Lego engine go so fast that it creates wind and have an exhaust type thing that connects to a sideways turbo, in a attempt to make real sound, big long shot but good idea
Thats sick! I made a functioning supercharger (not a turbocharger) for my lego vacuum engine by putting a second rotor on the air intake and connecting it the the main rotor with a gear reduction
A turbo charger is a turbine that is being driven by the exhaust of the engine, and compresses on its other side the intake air. What you built has absolutely NOTHING to do with a turbocharger.
It’s a good start, use silicon gel to seal ( it peels of ez after use ) I’ve made an airtight version similar to this. Don’t do it you melt a lot of stuff the parts move way to fast and melt together .
See, a turbo and a supercharger are alike but since we are talking about turbos you need to realize a turbo shouldnt be used as the engine itself because the turbo gives more air to the engine so it runs faster/better and it isnt an turbine engine.

What we are looking at here is effectively the same as Toyota's eCVT from the hybrid synergy drive. In this case the Lego engine is where the wheels would be, the turbo is the electric motor and the Lego motor is where the gas engine would be.
Is there a lego set where I can find all these gears/chains etc? Or do they all come different sets? I'm a mechanical engineer and I'd love it. Thank u
nice! however this is not a turbocharger :( its more like a turbine used to make the engine start, an actual turbo needs exhaust gases to actually work and using fuel on a lego engine will melt it :(
You have the universal joints set up in the wrong orientation. Put them together so that the notch on the sides is lined up with each other, it will run smoother. You have the joins offset by 90°
No one gets how turbos work, they take the exhaust pressure of the motor and convert that into intake pressure giving more air to the throttle body making more power, this is not a turbo charged engine
Cool, but not a turbocharger. I have made several of those vacum engines. I have also made some with functinoal cylinders, and turbo- and super chargers
Because you used an open differential as a 90* gear and put the turbine input on the one of the outputs of the differential, and nothing on the other output, while the electric motor and v6 engine are attached to the ring gear, absolutely no power from the turbine is going into the v6 engine. The electric motor alone is driving the engine. Once you locked up the other output, then you had power being transferred. Why use a differential in the first place?
If we think of lego vaccum engines and like real world engines turbos work by using the exshuat gas from the engine to spin a turbine that also sucks air ito it like a small vaccum that uses air and gives more air into the engine for better combustion becuz more oxygen equal bugger boom in engine so in technicality a vaccum egine from lego might be able to use a turbo but since vaccum engine dont have a exshaust they only have a intake and if u put a turbo on the intake i dont think it would do much cause the intake air is really weak and the turbo would do almost nothing but on the othee hand i have seen others make a super charger and it works but turbos seem like impossible if u think about it on vaccum engines🤓🤓js

A cool air-powered APU perhaps, but not a turbocharger given an engine drives a turbocharger and not the other way around 🙂
What is its use if it's not even a gas powered engine? It's not getting any combustion so it won't improve anything. Maybe a hybrid drive.
