    Very few people involved in ANY state "system" in ANY local or country give a damn about justice. Everyone has their own little private agendas. Look at the world through rose colored glasses and, in the end, you'll be enlightened but extremely disappointed.
    There ARE honest, good, decent and benevolent people out there. The huge problem is finding them.

    The prosecution conveniently lost or cannot obtain the specific cctv footage that would have likely exonerated Jock, showing the Roma being beaten, showing the mob going after Jock, with Jock defending himself. THAT one fact means he's innocent. If the footage showed what was alleged, that Jock was looking for a fight, that there were no Romas, that the guys who were stabbed were attacked unprovoked, then it would never have been 'lost'. Again, the guy's innocent. Very sad case for the whole family.

    I know Romania isn't Bulgaria but they are neighbouring countries. Very close. I travelled all around Romania but ran out of the time to go to Bulgaria. I was going to go. No way in hell did I ever feel the need to carry a knife around with me in Romania. I know these countries have a reputation for being "dodgy"countries, but I never once felt unsafe ever. Actually I found locals very friendly. I never ever put myself in a violent situation. My question is, why would he even be carrying a knife unless he was hanging with the wrong crowd/dodgy people. You don't just carry around a knife as a tourist there. I am not saying it wasn't self defence. However, it sounds like he was mixing with dodgy people to start with that sadly got himself stuck into this situation in the first place.

    He doesn't have any prior convictions, he came from a good family and was active in peaceful demonstrations against Australia's involvement in war. As for the gypsies, the prosecution in this case somehow lost the CCTV footage of the incident. This is quite unusual, since it would of been the most useful piece of evidence in the trial.

    This case needs to go to the European Court of Human Rights. The book was badly written but the short film and the book are both correct in their central thesis. There has been miscarriage of justice. The evidence of self-defence and defence of another should have played a central role and not been suppressed. There is clear corruption in the handling of this case. I hope you have a good legal team that can take this to the next level. Call the Castan Centre. Maybe they can help.

      As a bulgarian I can confirm that the justice system is rotten to it’s core! I do not defend nor condemn anyone, but there must have been fair trial. Most of the time justice is served to whoever has enough financial support or key relations regardless of the circumstances.

    What I'd like to know is how come the gypsy who was assaulted did not testify..

    • @BrayanA
      @BrayanA 5 лет назад +3

      Simple question, with simple answer - he was never found. Why he didn't go to police to testify on Jock Palfreeman side? Most probably he doesn't care. He doesn't want to be involved in a murder case. It is not his problem anymore. It may sound strange but this is how people sometimes react. If Jock Palfreeman didn't intervene the bigger group would beat the man from 20 seconds to 1 minute and run away. Hooligans or not, they are not stupid. If they beat the man to much the police will arrive soon and investigation will start. If they just punch and kick him several times, in most cases he will run away when it's over and just leave it there. The alternative is - whole night in police station, interrogations, testimonies and many visits to the court in the next months or years. Most times when you deal with drunk people it's better to eat several punches and show defeat, instead of taking out a knife and swinging it left and right hopping that this will scare them as Jock did. Take minimal damage and leave it to the police to solve it afterwards for you. Drunk people don't react as normal people expect. Fighting back or taking out a knife will only aggravate them. There was a similar incident in the city of Gabrovo some time ago. A group of 3 drunk Gypsies came in an argument with a young Bulgarian in a supermarket and a store clerk decided to intervene to protect him. The result - the clerk was beaten up by the gypsies and the young man that he tries to defend didn't bother to help him at all. He just passively looked from the side as if it's not related to him.

He should consider himself lucky with the 20 years. I'm sure they can put you away for life eventhough you're innocent.

    I will vomit when I hear what nonsense this Hristo Monov is saying.How he makes up these lies

  • @rosshilton7671
    @rosshilton7671 9 лет назад +7

    After being arrested, Palfreeman lied to the police, telling them he was living in a sack in Borisova Gardens and that he didn’t know the name of the English couple he had been with that night. In fact he was living at their house at Madjare 60 km from Sofia.
    This lie allowed the girl Lindsay Welsh, who had been present at the murder, to slip out of the country the next day.
    She was never questioned by police or appeared at court. Palfreman didn’t provide the details until told by Grayham Saunders that Welsh had left the country. When Welsh finally made a statement about the events that night she simply claimed she had seen nothing as she was helping someone recharge the credit on a mobile phone.
    The guy, Graham Saunders spoke to Palfreeman before he was interviewed by the police, and claims he had left his girlfriend with Palfreeman and gone to a hostel for the night. He therefore claimed he hadn’t seen anything or had any involvement.
    Palfreeman has consistently claimed no memory of the events leading up to the murder.

      +Lewis Wright Seriously mate go to the library, or buy the book on kindle, and read the events that night. you are being conned if you think the story is at told by Jock. He DELIBERATELY lied to the police about where he was living, and kept that story up until Saunders visited him in the cells and confirmed that Welsh had slipped out of the country. She didn't want to be questioned - because she had been present at the murder. When she was forced to make a statement (from the UK, she refused to return as a witness at the trial) she said she was sitting behind a wall trying to add credit to a cell phone and didn't look up - despite the screaming and shouting as her friend Jock murdered someone? This all came up in the trial - they even had the record of the phone recharge - but of course its never mentioned by Jocks supporters.

Try reading the book before making small minded comments! How easy it is to sit behind the comfort of our computer screens and become judge and jury on things we know nothing about. Palfreeman's story has been amply covered in the media. When you're visiting another's home or country, you're supposed to be at all times on his best behaviour. He wasn't, and moreover, he was armed with a dagger and looking for trouble. The Australian government has said that it doesn't intend on pursuing this matter as it appears to be satisfied that Palfreemen has had a fair trial. He's guilty, get over it.

  • @brokenscimitar
    @brokenscimitar 11 лет назад +4

    You wrote, "This case needs to go to the European Court of Human Rights."
    Why hasn't it? If as you say he's been wrongly convicted, why haven't the civil libertarians already undertaken that step? Could it be that Palfreeman is, *GASP*, guilty, and any further appeal is hopeless?

To be honest, I cannot take a side, because I imagine how hard it must be for the Monov family and their loss as well as for the Palfreemans as well. The truth is that the judicial system in Bulgaria is broken and judgements there are made in regards to interests and often subsidized ones. Hope the truth comes out.

      The truth is that he saw some commotion and rushed towards the crowd of people with his knife at hand in his pocket to deliver deadly street justice... Had he stayed in the restaurant and called the authorities rather than going out to hunt down and punish the "hooligans", he would have avoided his lengthy sentence. I cannot think of a single developed country that would have spared him the the jail time if he had done the same there instead of in Bulgaria.
