    Getting the Vivo 5, I was going to get the Venu 3 but this video helped me make my decision .I have my share of expensive heavy watches and honestly I don’t even wear them and they are annoying to have on. I have a Vivoactive 4 now, I have had it for a few years now. I do watch steps and stairs on my watch besides notifications. As the Vivoactive 5 does not do steps, my only real option is the Venu 3. The voice feature is something I used to have on my Pebble steel that I do miss, so that feature alone is something I would jump towards.
    The price point is expensive, $450 for a 3-5 year watch (before the battery starts failing), is a lot. I guess I'll be watching around black Friday for a sale.... I do like up to 14 days, vs my 5-6 on my Vivoative 4....

    Thank you for such a detailed and informative video! I currently have a Vivoactive 4s, and now I'm leaning more towards the Venu 3s as it's got an altimeter. I don't care too much for voice assistant and the other calling and texting features, but who knows...I may actually find them quite useful.

    To be honest, these garmin watches no matter what will track the basics for training. Its the other features from watch to watch that separates them. I personally would buy the Forerunner 955 Solar, living in Hawaii, it can be pretty much unlimited battery life, its sunny here for 365 days a year.

    I just bought the Vivoactive 5. It has more than enough features for my use. I don't need a mic and speaker because I am literally never without my phone and $300 is already almost above my budget. I do think they should have added the 5th generation heart rate sensor to the Vivoactive 5 though!!!

      Sadly, the VA 5 no longer tracks stairs climbed. Both my VA 3 & 4 had this function. Why remove this on latest model? Deal breaker for me. So I'm supposed to cough up another $150? No thanks.

    Excellent video, and most helpful when shopping for my first Garmin. I decided to buy the Venu 3 and have been very happy with it over the first two weeks of wear. Nonetheless, I probably would have been happy with the cheaper option Vivoactive 5 also as the speaker on the Venu 3 is hard for me to hear, unless in a quiet area (I am 64 years old). Thanks again.. liked and subscribed.

    The thing is that just when I was about to buy a garmin, and I was ready for the 265, the Venu 3 came out, so I went for it. I don't need the speaker, neither do I need the assistant -- it's dumb to call for your phone if it's in your pocket anyways, and a couple weeks later, the VA5 came out ! I can only say it's a good business planifacation from Garmin. Now, I don't regret my Venu 3, it looks awesome, and I prefer it over the VA5, which I saw in store and looks rather cheap. But minus 150$ cheap ? I don't know... Watches are somewhat personal items because they stick to your skin and your style, so they've always been priced according to that as well. At the end of the day, buy the one you can afford, but it's true that the VA5 is almost the same one, for much less money...

It's now been returned, locked up several times (had to hold button for 30 secs), then the gesture-on stopped working, then the display suddenly started staying completely dim even with brightness on 100% and auto-brightness off, did a full reset but still broke, so gave up with it.

    Garmin truly throwing everything at the wall!
    One funny (to me…) observation is that in your Suunto 9 Peak Pro review you have beef with Suunto’s multipurpose back button but don’t mind it so much with Garmin?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  8 месяцев назад +1

      You're not wrong. I guess it's just a bit different because these watches are designed for "casual / every day smartwatch stuff" while the Suunto 9 Peak is a dedicated outdoor centric watch. With the Suunto I want the button presses to be super reliable and no guess work while on the Venu3 / Vivoactive most of your interactions happen on the touch screen. Of course, this is just my personal opinion!

I think that garmin with kind of this watch should go more like Huawei design (gt4 prettiest watch on markt) if it has a mip display than is also a propos (mip>amoled) so it is a big difference bettwen this 2? V3 is almost twice expensive than balance.

    I recently got myself a Vivoactive 5 after using a Vivosmart 4 for several years. Unfortunately the VS4 stopped working correctly (I assume my altimeter is broken as walking on flat plain tracked 100+ flights of stairs, plus my sleep was barely tracked as it registered huge movements while sleeping - and I didn't change my overall movement during the night/sleep). I wanted to get the Venu 3 because of the altimeter, but even the Vivoactive 5 was too overpriced for my budget, so I settled with the VA5. I like the new functions of the VA5 with the recentness of it, but I do miss the altimeter. Is there a way to get an upgrade, similar to the heartrate band? Like, a little module you can pin to your clothes or whatever that tracks flights of stairs taken as well as the height I climb during indoor climbing/bouldering? Also, one that is compatible with Garmin watches or at least the Garmin Connect app? Thanks in advance for any suggestions ☺️

      That's a tough call and it kind of brings me to the "final thoughts" section of my balance review. It's all about the ecosystem and data. The Garmin's have proven to be reliable and provide useful data with tools like Body Battery, and the new Sleep Coach function. Generally speaking I've had more consistent data and more accuracy when it comes to GPS and HR data on Garmin devices. That said, I do really like the Amazfit Balance. It's proven to be one of their more accurate devices BUT you do accept the rather inaccurate data provided in the Zepp app with inconsistent sleep data, and of course the training tools being sort of all over the place (VO2 Max, Training Load, etc...) in my experience at least. For the price, the Balance is pretty amazing but I'd take the Venu 3 over it if price weren't a factor.

    I bought the Venu 3S last week upgrading from the Venu 2Plus. But called Garmin 2days later to RTN for the Venu 3 as I felt it was just too small in comparison. But wanted the soft gold bezel and other colors of 3S and wish they had more color choices for the Venu 3. Despite limited choices I selected white option & ordered the 3 today and can’t wait for it to arrive in 2days. Other pain point is the bezel size, wish they’d stuck with same 42mm size of the 2Plus which used a 20” band. Now have to go to 22” band for the V3 and none of my extra colored 20” bands will work. Also seems like the band was thinner on the 3S and shorter and I have small wrist. Noticeably different to me.
    Great content by the way! Thanks for the insight.

      How's the strength of the vibration motor in VA5?

  • @jasonlevine2430
    @jasonlevine2430 8 месяцев назад +6

    Thanks for the detailed comparison. I've had a Venu 2 for 2 years and am undecided about upgrading. I don't think the VA5 is an upgrade from the V2 - it's basically the same HW though the VA5 does have some nice SW upgrades (the sleeping coach, nap detection, recovery time, HRV status, etc.). Clearly, those SW enhancements can be added to the V2, but I don't think Garmin will do that. So, the choice for someone like me if I don't want to upgrade every year or 2, is to stick with a device that has the capability to have SW features added but Garmin will not support, or pony up at least $300 to get those features on a very similar device. As for the V3, there are some big HW differences - the speaker and microphone along with the phone/assistant features and the upgraded HR sensor. That's big, especially since the HW sensor is capable of supporting ECG (but hasn't yet received regulatory approval). So, my dilemma is really do I stick with a company that forces me to upgrade every couple of years to get the latest SW (even when my device can handle the SW upgrade) or do I go elsewhere. I get it that if Garmin updated the V2 they'd cannibalize sales of the VA5 for sure, and perhaps a bit for the V3, but isn't it better for them to reward loyal customers rather than have them thinking of jumping to another company?

I'd guess that there are so many other factors, that you will not notice the difference between FR965 and Venu3 (if both are comfortable enough to sleep with) - journaling, analysis of your activity before sleep etc. will play much bigger role than the model of the watch on your journey to improving sleep.
