You saved my bacon with this video. I can't thank you enough. I would never have got my telemetry modules working on my Nova Pro. I was up until 3.30am trying to figure it out and i started at 10pm last night. Thanks again from the UK-England
Now if i could figure out why im getting a "Bad Velocity" on my Nova Pro i could actually fly it. I have calibrated it on mission planner more than a dozen times and still no joy.
HI not totally sure what causes that error... buttt for kicks ..in mission planner(Don't push the connect button) go to optional hardware.. 3dr radio then push the load settings buttons.. and see if radio power is set to 20. or above 10.. I had jumping issues with sonar and it took me awhile to nail it down to that.
Good thing I remembered something about this before trying to hook it up to my CX20 board. Also had the newest firmware, I'm now running custom 3.15 with the hex edit. Worked instantly AFTER I loaded the correct firmware with HEX edit :D Board not fried, well I always check connections anyway and found it odd the cable provided was mirrored as to what it should be. Thanks for the video, good stuff!
thanks for your comment glad it turned out good for you..we lucked out for seeing something odd heh.. .. I was thinking they were going to try to sell there own style .. but now that I think about it .. ..wonder when they drew the schematic ,the adapter was meant to be on the other side of the board, then they realized the shell would not close heh..
For some extra assistance.... I spent DAYS trying to solve an issue with my CX-20 setting up my telemetry. I kept getting 'no heartbeat packets' and couldnt work out why. I swapped changed to multiple different firmwares, unplugged the GPS and other components, tested the power, used terminal to test the communication, etc etc etc i also swapped TX/RX for every change and tested them fully. Finally tested each port on the telem air unit and the APM and found that the APM had a bit of crap solder jumping the connection on the APM... well done who ever built it... thanks! anyway removed the jump and it now works perfectly. Just thought Id post my findings here.... anyone having the same problem... check your boards for solder quality and whether there are any shorts!!! thanks to bangs6996 for the video!!
Merci Merci beaucoup pour ta vidéo tu me sauves la vie après des jours de galères je suis tomber sur ton tuto et ça marche NICKEL !!!!! ouahou !!!!! je m'abonne a ta chaine. codialement
Chuck Taylor your molly was worth the watch!!! added a sub in case one day you decide to upload another invention =).. from the drunken one to stable what a huge diff.
@ Danis Ztube yes telemetry works with version 3.1.2 . If you read through the firmware fixes version 3.2.1 fixes some memory and more.. My quadcopter was actually really bad with version 3.1.2 but seemed way more stable with 3.2.1 in gps mode.. but its a huge debate what is better 3.1.5 or 3.2.1 .. anyways here is the release notes for complete fixes. .. github.com/diydrones/ardupilot/blob/master/ArduCopter/ReleaseNotes.txt
hi, Great video. I've just bought a Quanum nova (open source) and have not used RTL yet. You advise a commenter to change the RTL height from 50' to 13'. Can you tell me how to do that please. Thanks again for all the info. There's a lot to be learned from the comments also. John.
Think I might have just fried mine. Saw that mine was only displaying only the blinking green light. So, I rearranged back to default wire order and now there's no lights displaying at all. Is this a manufacturing defect, or is the FC on the nova wired differently than this was intended to plug?
+Devin Dorman the plug/wire is really meant for apm 2.6 2.8 ect. If you have a meter test for positive and negative on the 2 out side pads of the header on the apm of the nova, confirm the red wire is going to positive of the telemetry and the black to the negative. (Put It back how it was when you had the blinking green light) It might be a tad forgiving seeing we are playing with low voltage . so it may still work. If you can get the green light to come back and blink. Plug in the telemetry part into your computer to see if the green light goes solid. (while figuring out positive and negative leave out the tx and rx wire out of the harness) If you get the green light back. You can start playing with the tx and rx ,It might of been you simply had the tx and rx reversed. You will not get a red light in that case, also some times the wires don't get pushed all the way in right. The inner 3 pads only have a limited amount of combinations seeing the tx and rx are always next to each other ..for example .. + tx rx N/a - + rx tx N/a - + N/a tx rx - + N/a rx tx -
+bangs6996 I think there's no denying that it's fried. I removed everything from the plastic clip in case moving wires around had caused it to lose it's ability to clip securely. I just pushed the metal clip straight on the appropriate pin for POS and NEG according to where I found voltage with the meter, which was where you had shown correct orientation from your wire order. When I switched it back to the default wire order it was reversing pos and neg. So, I shouldn't be surprised. I guess it's not the most expensive thing i've broken!
+Devin Dorman Yeah I've made many things go poofy as well ,The worst part of this scene is the wait for the replacement parts.. Good luck on your next one if you decide to try again.
Frank O. do I at least get a point for not saying drone? hehe.. must of drove you crazy every time I said it wrong...Regardless , thanks for the correction.
Bangs6996.... I previously plugged my 3DR telemetry module into my cx20 V252_V5.0 board just as it came delivered... Before I saw this video I had then flown the drone several times with it the air module connected, always wondering why it never worked... I since have found your brilliant video and have changed the pins on my air module board plug to match yours and plugged it back in... However, when I turn the drone on, still no lights come from the air module itself even though it's wired exactly as yours is.. Do you think that having used the drone a few times before with the wires the wrong way round could have some how 'fried' the air module of the 3DR telemetry set up? Please help!!!! Thank you!
+bangs6996 wow thanks so much for such detailed info! Since it appears one component or another on the air module is indeed fried, and your resolution involves me buying a new soldering iron (my current one is quite oxidised and would be like an elephant typing on a smartphone) I think my best option is to just order another telemetry kit from the bay £~14 or so and change the wire pins as you described before turning proceeding to turn the drone on this time haha :)
heh..yup .. for kicks you can always just remove the positive pin wire.. and touch it to pin one of the air module to see if the lights come on.. but they are cheap now anyways.. and you will have a extra ground unit hehe..
+daniel catrihual urrutia I don't have a big shark apm,, so I can't say yes or no. I would believe the answer is no depending what apm is truly inside it. have you opened up your unit to see what apm build number it actually came with?. ... Pin 2 and 3 on the 2560(if that is the cpu you have) is your telemetry uart tx/rx .. So if you are able to program with mission planner to 3.2.1. and if your board does not have any traces for pin 2 and pin3 I'm sure you could hack in telemetry. ... Worst case is just order new apm 2.6
Usually it is the factory installed software 3.1.2 or 3.1.5 However to down grade and upgrade you can do that through mission planner. Mission planner _> Initial setup _> Installed Firmware _> Pick previous software, it will then change into a combo box.. the first 4 ish are the ones you would be after 3.1.2 to 3.2.1 .. Be very careful with fallow me mode ,if you do install the telemetry and only have 3.1.2 or 3.1.5 at least with my test I accidentally had it in 3.1.5 when I pushed the fallow me mode.. and it fallowed its shadow to the earth heh..
Thanks for this tutorial. I am not able to connect CX-20 to computer via USB cable. I have same hardware inside quad as in video but when I connect cable a beep beep sound and lights flashing tell me it is not liking it. Tried all USB cables I have but same tihng happens with all of them. How can I solve this to be able to connect my quad to mission planner?
+Alex Echeverría open up device manager and see what pops up under ports 10:32 . you might want to try to install Apm planner as well from the same people ardupilot.com/downloads/?category=35 it also installs the drivers for your apm. You can also try setting mission planner to "Auto" then push connect. You can try plugging a usb cable directly into the apm
+bangs6996 Wow! Thanks for prompt reply bangs6996. I solved my problem by first connecting a Lipo to quad and then connecting cable to computer (I figured out 5 volts from USB were not enough for all the electronics inside quad and it made all the "low voltage" scenario). Mission Planner recognized it right away. I am now buying a 5 pin plastic connector as my APM has a 5 pin mini port soldered on it. I got a Hobby King telemetry kit that includes two TxRx boxes similar to the ones shown in your video but they have 6 cable connetors. I have not flown my new CX-20 yet and will test a simple autonomous mission thetering quad with a fishing line. I have discovered that, for AUTO to start mission, I have to push throtle a little as CX-20 does nothing when switching to AUTO alone. Hope I explain myself well. IS that the way to go?
+Alex Echeverría ...Glad you got it working with a easy fix. for now I would not upgrade the version unless you need to .. Like if you want to use the options fallow me mode in droidplanner.. . I would prob skip the fishing line ,if for any reason the quad drops in altitude it could potentially get wrapped up very quickly .. I would suggest doing couple of return to homes to confirm the compass and gps is working. then do a auto mission. If for some reason it takes off in another direction when you push the return to home .flip out of it and bring it down as your compass is most likely set wrong. and it seems fine how you set it to auto..
+bangs6996 What you sugest makes more sense. I will fly quad and move levers to RTL position and if quad goes somewhere else I will return to STABLE mode to retrieve it and recalibrate compass. I did the Mission Planner initial calibration. I want to make photo mosaic along a river for a friend who bough a Walkera 350 to do that but has GPS malfuction so flyign manual is the only way and he has no experience so I did the work but did not dare to fly it in a dense vegetation area were I had no visual of quad. I bough CX-20 quad in Banggood and have lots of expectations to complete this work :)
Every new CX-20, and Nova, (one-in-the-same) owner learns right away before flight, they need to determine which operating system their quad came with. There are 3 known versions. APM, BigShark, and Zero. APM can be manipulated via software programs for waypoint programming whereas the BigShark and Zero platforms..you cannot. APM equipped generally cost more. CALIBRATING compass is PARAMOUNT for first flight...in any mode. All three, APM. BIGSHARK and ZERO...need compass calibration before first (and last...lol) flight. The owners manual describes how to perform this essential task....but CHINESE translation to english speaking...is nearest to impossible. A program called 'Mission Planner' (free) is available for those who wish to initiate more accuracy to compass calibration...ie..makes better accurate flight performance than Chinese manual calibration method..Yes there are 2 ways to calibrate..less accurate Chinese way in owner manual, or 'Mission Planner' way...offering greater accuracy............There is a catch....which is as of February 2016, still not clarified. I've read the many RC forums about "mission planner' calibration for the CX-20....Many people report total iniallation of their CX-20's brain....Responders on the forums say it was because they downloaded 'updates'...a reason why for failure...but never fully explain what updates to what..or when? I just received 2/09/16 a new CX-20...It is an APM 2.52 version. Not what I wanted. But since I have this version, I need to make it work for me. I've downloaded "Mission Planner" QUESTION: should I update this software....or NOT update it? People say NOT to update....or the CX-20's brain will die...or are they talking about some other up-date they fail to mention in their many posts. Can I just plug in between 'Mission Planner' pc-to-cx20...without worry of major catastrophic failure...just to read my cx20 current situation...All I want to do..is calibrate.
+Steve Brown I would suggest downloading all your parameters and doing all the calibrations through mission planner regardless. If you update your apm you can't go back to the custom firmware 3.1.2 which I find so odd nobody took time to upload it yet. If I ever come across one I will upload it.. Anyways things you loose is compass calibration through the firmware 3.1.2 custom .. once you update it to version 3.1.5 3.2.1 you will have to calibrate the compass through mission planner.. However You will find after time its a one time deal if your not going out of your city or country. Personally I tell people if they like 3.1.2 and you have no issue's at all ..stay with it
+bangs6996 Once you get comfortable with the apm 2.5.2 you will find its just a apm 2.6 2.8. its a pretty good apm just lacking all the ports. If you decide to add telemetry and start exploring fallow me mode ..version 3.2.1 is a must. I have never bricked any apm through mission planner firmware accept using custom firmware.. that actually kills the bootloader which "the brain" is just a atmel 2560 which is found on all the newer apm's.. I have a video on how to recover a bricked apm and if you watch you will find even that is straight forward..
+Steve Brown Np rcgroups has fountain of information its just so hard to weed through some of the 4k threads... Also when you plug in your cx20 it will beep at you lots .. don't plug in the battery as some people suggest to kill the sound .. just deal with it lol.. its a low voltage trigger ..but you can actually fry your esc's on some units. When using the usb just make sure to push the disconnect button in mission planner.. And again very first step is to back up your params.. they are generic but just in case you use the scroll wheel , you might be changing params by accident
Thank you....Seems there are no 'concrete' step programs from the Chinese! They build and sell these advanced technology 'toys' to the world...but give little and or vague direction how to use!.......Is this stolen tech from US...they only copy..but not explain?

My 3DR that connects with the apm board has no lights and overheats near the connector.
IF it came that way, you might just of a solder jump on something . the cap on the right side can also be shorted out. You would have to remove it to test it..... .. for testing you just need the positive and negative. and basically you will have to touch the components to see which one is heating up.. ....If you want measurements after removing components let me know I can send you mine..
Hey I can't unlock motors the lights just keep turning on and off In a beep format I tried unlocking in anyway is it something in the mission planner..please help....
+Berk Kip 0:27 of the video look at the picture and match up colors the same.. On the air module it should be marked either on the board tx,rx,5v,gnd, or on the plastic shell
+bangs6996 I subbed...sorry but one last question. My cable with a four cable input spaces not five like in the video Should I buy a new cable....what's the name of the cable??? Or will it fit the cx20, You can check out the cable they gave me its in the previous link I sent you;) Thanks and keep up the great vids!!! Regards -Berk
+Berk Kip did it also come with that other cable.. ....it looks like it is a 5 pin one..so maybe u can take it off that cable? if not u can take out the black pin snip the end of the cable connector with nail clippers and push in the black one at the end.. that might sound confusing .. in this video i show the theory of it heh... ruclips.net/video/_yl4VaZnpMI/видео.html jump to the time 30:22 in that video
hello friend, a question connect telemetry to CX20 all well but as you do to do missions, I have a tablet and put the mission and then save it to file and when I wanted to do the mission I opened the file, then send to apm and then loaded from apm but did not do that I can do.
bangs6996 ok so I uploaded this ruclips.net/video/szTp_p0k_vk/видео.html if this is not your question. please ask again. I'm sure it might be helpful to somebody some day anyways.. plus I wanted to see how quick I could make, edit and upload a video lol..
Hi .. did you disable arming check? .. .. just to test it out.. ruclips.net/video/mrBWEATUbus/видео.html I leave mine disabled all the time ..however might not be the brightest idea if you have something wrong with your compass ect..
I did, and it still wouldn't arm. I did find that it was a compass issue. I had to unplug the compass module to install the telemetry board, so the compass just needed a manual calibration (Hold throttle down/right within 5 seconds of plugging in the battery). Since my controller is Mode 1 I had to arm the props by holding the throttle down/LEFT while holding the other stick down right. Thanks for the reply!
I realize this is an old video, put I followed your directions to the letter, now when I hook up my CX-20 to my computer it doesn't even recognize it, like its not even hooked up, and I've got one motor beeping all the time and the quad won't bind. Any help would be appreciated. This quad is less then a week old.
Hi ..If you remove the telemetry air unit and plug a usb cable into the cx20 on the bottom or directly on the side of the apm can you still connect? try both connections to rule out a bad port on the bottom
I plugged into the APM and was able to load mission planner. I guess I have a bad port. As far as the motor beeping all the time based on my research I've go a bad ESC. I've tried everthing to get the telemetry to work and all I get is 2 solid green lights. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for the quick response.
two solid green lights is good.. It means the 2 units can see each other. thats if you meant each unit has a a solid green light once you plug in the ground unit into your computer . . you probably have rx and tx backwards.. just try to reverse them.. on this part of the video if you pause and look at the picture ruclips.net/video/MbqfpGElSyI/видео.html it goes 5volts rx tx space ground.. make sure to have the space beside the ground.. If so just try to switch the rx and tx around .you should get a blinking orange light on the air unit once you do that,if it works.
+bangs6996 This is basically out dated so you can just use mission planner load custom firmware option ..if you get a error while writing just try again once.. if you get a error again ..load version 3.2.1 then move to xloader but basically its the same thing
I have to download everything that you show in the video, the mine has otg cable the lights are green but when I connect it happens nothing has threads four colors I have put it in cx20 to work
+erikson yol Hi, with the part that plugs into the cx20 does this happen 8:41 the red blinking light? otg cable needs Tower/droidplanner and 3dr Services. for your phone
Thank you for how we have to fix the cable of the apm I worked on my tablet, a question as you do to do the missions that buttons you use to make it fly automatic example (swb 1 and 2 swa) or other
You have to go through mission planner .. Initial setup --> Mandatory Hardware --> Compass ..then do a live calibration.... I also have a video that will let you reload the factory oem firmware if you wan't to go back to using the cx20 to calibrate it instead..
You can't with any other firmware accept the factory firmware... ..So if you really need that option you will need to downgrade back to version 3.1.2 .. ....
Thanks a ton for this video, i had very bad experience with the telemetry setup, i fried one with the default wrong connection on the power line of the cable (inverted polarity), ordered another and i was careful this time, still didn't worked as the bug in the latest firmware (wondering how APM creators still didn't fixed this bug), with the custom framework it worked, but this is not the latest version :-( All works...that's the essential....bravo...hats off. I wonder there are lot of wrong information on the internet on setting up the telemetry, the worst i was in the infamous site www.instructables.com/id/Cheerson-CX-20-3DR-Radio-for-New-Board/?ALLSTEPS where they are asking to solder the TX RX cable directly on the micro-controller pin (near to it), i am sure this will work as there are multiple serial connection possible with the Ardunio Mega, but this is very cumbersome or even dangerous (as we can easily mess up during the micro soldering)
+Nazir Khan Thank you!, Not sure why they had to go threw all that but I do know on some of the mods I have done, Sonar mod and optical flow mod, I had to solder directly on the micro. "wondering how APM creators still didn't fixed this bug" Seems like they just don't care .. they don't even have a proprietary unit that plugs in it, so its just a screw up they never bothered to fix.
+bangs6996 Thanks to share the info that Sonar and Optical flow mod you had to solder on the micro, was it also the same version of APM board? cause, as next step i am planning to upgrade my done with Sonar :-)
+Nazir Khan Hi yes its the same apm , I have a video of the steps and also the mod you have to do on yours .. check out the ending, I think I have a quick time link that shows the cx20 apm. its only one solder mod.. but if you bridge the contacts with solder it can be a real pain in the butt to remove it, even with tonz of flux and braided copper..
Bangs any idea why my 3dr telemetry ground radio just shows the blue led is flashing along with a red flashing led. I've installed the driver and the hex file onto my cx-20. I have the same setup on a different cx, but its a clone(not 3dr) and it connects but doesn't populate in mp.... any ideas???
Hi ..when you plug the ground unit into your computer.. (the one with the usb end) what color blinks.. ..usually its green but i'm assuming yours will be blue then.. once that is blinking.. plug in your cx 20.. does it stop blinking? and go solid.. next.. .. with it plugged into your computer only.. go into mission planner.. set the com port to the telemetry ground unit.. and the baud rate 57600 (don't push connect!!!) go to initial setup sik radio. and push load settings what happens..? .. if nothing populates try 9600 as the baud rate and go back to sik radio and load settings. keep trying different baud rates all the way up to 115200
let me know if populates with info with load settings....if it is just a baud rate ....then you can connect the air unit into cx20 and try loading settings again with which ever baud rate and set them both to 57600 ect... Mission planner does have a param as well to set the baud rate for telem in standard params around the bottom..
HI .. i do have a osd video.... i'll re watch it my self.. I forget if i had just made it for a fix video.. here is the video.. ruclips.net/video/NNuHOtY2Yl4/видео.html
ah .. just re watched it.. .... .. I use a apm2.6 in that video . will you be installing the power module? if so you can use the 5 volts from that to power the osd.. or just use the 5 volts from under the quad. Do you have telemetry installed ? .. I can see some more problems if not.. as you will still need to install custom firmware for the cx20... if your running version 3.2.1 if your running stock you should be fine...
oops thought you were somebody else.. but anyways the video link i sent you.. .. if that's the osd you have . I will put a step by step together soon..
Tried to send you a message through subs..but don't think you are subbed to me.. so i'll just post here.. that I uploaded a video for you. its a tad messy so hopefully you can fallow along
Hi Bangs6996 I have followed all the steps from your video, when I tried to connect to the telemetry the computer shows a dialog screen with messages: "Connecting Mavlink" Trying to connect Timeout in 12 "No heartbeat packets received" Can you tell me what I did wrong? Thank you Dibay.
Di Bay Rc If the red light on the unit is blinking red and you have a solid green light/ after you apply battery power... It could be the Rx cable is not pushed in right or even tx.. .. . also make sure the baud rate is at 57600. If you still don't get a red light you can try to swap the yellow and blue wire
I got the baud rate correct 57600, an swapped the yellow and blue Cable a few times, just got blinking green light but no red light on the Air unit, what should I do? Thanks for your help.
Di Bay Rc . Ok the unit that plugs into your quad copter .. when it blinks green .. does it stop blinking green once you plug in the other unit into your computer.. .. Not that it matters but it will show at least the transceiver and receiver are binding ......... .. What firmware version are you at with your quad copter? 3.1.2?
bangs6996 No it doesn't stop blinking when I plugged in the ground unit into my computer, the ground unit blinking green and red, but the air unit green light keeps blinking none stop. My current firmware is 3.2.1. What is your suggestion? Thanks.
You can try to jump everything and put 5 volts on pin one, ruclips.net/video/mTYkbxj42N4/видео.html also remove what ever component leads up to pin one.. regulator ,cap, ect... plug in the ground unit into your computer or power brick before hand as well. the green light should blink .. once you plug in the air module. if the light goes solid on the ground unit ..you might be in luck
+bangs6996 amazing man!, you mean to do like he did in the video but instead of connecting to the rx connect to to quad right? I will try it later today and let you know
yup like i did in the video.. the part I show in that video is connecting 5 volts to the ground unit.. if you keep watching for about 1 minute i show where to connect it to the air module.. its the same pin's ... You don't need to hook up rx tx.. the goal right now is to get that light on your ground unit to go solid green once you attach 5 volts to the air module.. But when you hook up voltage in reverse on something its a gambling game, anything could of fried...
+Dominiz X .. if your using sonar on the original apm .. ..in the comments cjkcizur posted a firmware that re enables the sonar .. plus telemetry .. ruclips.net/video/Fu89L8fJt-w/видео.html
+bangs6996 but read over what he disabled.. if something he disabled you need just post .one of us will fix you a firmware update.. besides that it could be mission planner is messed up and you need to uninstall it and re install older version ect..
+Dominiz X ok ..somebody posted this file . My final HEX file came out at 629KB. Use at your own risk, but it's out at drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Z5EKsrcFzzNlVnTnlZTnBMUzg/view?usp=sharing It has telemetry fix and sonar enable, but no fence
Hi, thanks for this great job. the firmware link is a dead, i found it here. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2536440 I notice that the red light on boot don't blink as the official 3.2.1, and sometimes i got gps signal loss/3d fix/loss/3d fix etc... with Tower app. So I unplug usb telemetry, close the app re open it. plug usb telemetry and it's ok. My signal is not very high with Tower app 37%-78% (better signal with GS3 4G than with Galaxy Tab S2) when it's 98%-100% with Asus EEEPC. After this telemetry upgrade and custom firmware update my first flight was not very smooth. So i recalibrate radio, compass, and accel with MP and after auto trim, the CX-20 flight very stable Thanks again
You get better distance as well if you increase the power on your telemetry .You can do that within mission planner. Somebody else suggested that to me in one of these videos.. However I find it glitches my sonar.... thank you for letting me know the link was dead. I just uploaded the 2 files to my google drive this way it won't happen again..
oops you were in my spam comment section..for 2 days, I am bad for checking that and my private messages.. glad you got it going.. I'm having audio issues right now but will check your vid.. and thanks for the plug..
green light? it never comes on? Try to bring it outside for about 5 mins or more and see if it can find the satellite.. You might want to arm the quadcopter after 5 mins and look in the logs to see if it finds it.., you don't need the propellers on for this test..move the throttle up a bit so it does not disarm for about one more minute.. Or connect to mission planner and see if it finds a satellite, only plug in the usb cable and leave it alone for about 10 mins.
Finally! Somebody published a step by step detailed tutorial. Thank you!
You saved my bacon with this video.
I can't thank you enough.
I would never have got my telemetry modules working on my Nova Pro.
I was up until 3.30am trying to figure it out and i started at 10pm last night.
Thanks again from the UK-England
Your Welcome.. Glad it turned out good for you in the end .......and thank you for posting your comment..
Wow, lightning fast response. Within one hour.
Many thanks, you speeded up my setup greatly.
John.
Good thing I remembered something about this before trying to hook it up to my CX20 board. Also had the newest firmware, I'm now running custom 3.15 with the hex edit. Worked instantly AFTER I loaded the correct firmware with HEX edit :D
Board not fried, well I always check connections anyway and found it odd the cable provided was mirrored as to what it should be. Thanks for the video, good stuff!
thanks for your comment glad it turned out good for you..we lucked out for seeing something odd heh.. .. I was thinking they were going to try to sell there own style .. but now that I think about it .. ..wonder when they drew the schematic ,the adapter was meant to be on the other side of the board, then they realized the shell would not close heh..
bangs6996 Hehe yeah that could actually be the reason why it's mirrored :D
Thanks! This helped me get my telemetry working... I couldn't figure out the tx rx layout...
Great comment!! ..thanks for taking the time to share your troubles and a fix..
Merci Merci beaucoup pour ta vidéo tu me sauves la vie après des jours de galères je suis tomber sur ton tuto et ça marche NICKEL !!!!! ouahou !!!!! je m'abonne a ta chaine.

HI glad you got it to work and thanks for the sub.
thanks this video got me on the custom firmware and im up and running. Thanks
Chuck Taylor your molly was worth the watch!!! added a sub in case one day you decide to upload another invention =).. from the drunken one to stable what a huge diff.
Your the man! You made this painless for me
Thank you very much! everything worked fine! Great Turtorial!
Greetz from Germany
Your welcome. and thanks for posting.. Greetz from Canada =)
You rule, man. . . . please don't take these videos or links down!!!!
thanks..and thank you for taking time to leave a positive comment..
thanks for this tuto.
finally, the yellow wire don't move
Your welcome.. and thanks for commenting..
@ Danis Ztube yes telemetry works with version 3.1.2 . If you read through the firmware fixes version 3.2.1 fixes some memory and more.. My quadcopter was actually really bad with version 3.1.2 but seemed way more stable with 3.2.1 in gps mode.. but its a huge debate what is better 3.1.5 or 3.2.1 .. anyways here is the release notes for complete fixes. .. github.com/diydrones/ardupilot/blob/master/ArduCopter/ReleaseNotes.txt
thanks a lot (y) it really works on my cheerson :)
+mizzhar acosta np and thanks for taking time to say thanks =)....
hi,
Great video. I've just bought a Quanum nova (open source) and have not used RTL yet. You advise a commenter to change the RTL height from 50' to 13'. Can you tell me how to do that please.
Thanks again for all the info. There's a lot to be learned from the comments also.
John.
Thank you. It just works :-)
+TLeon2414 your welcome..Refreshing to hear a success post..
(while figuring out positive and negative leave out the tx and rx wire out of the harness)
If you get the green light back.
Great video, thanks for the information
+Lee Mason your welcome and thank you..
Frank O. do I at least get a point for not saying drone? hehe.. must of drove you crazy every time I said it wrong...Regardless , thanks for the correction.
Bangs6996.... I previously plugged my 3DR telemetry module into my cx20 V252_V5.0 board just as it came delivered... Before I saw this video
I had then flown the drone several times with it the air module connected, always wondering why it never worked...
Thank you!
that video just shows where to jump and solder 5 volts on pin one.. the ground should be fine still..
+bangs6996 wow thanks so much for such detailed info!
Since it appears one component or another on the air module is indeed fried, and your resolution involves me buying a new soldering iron (my current one is quite oxidised and would be like an elephant typing on a smartphone) I think my best option is to just order another telemetry kit from the bay £~14 or so and change the wire pins as you described before turning proceeding to turn the drone on this time haha
:)
heh..yup .. for kicks you can always just remove the positive pin wire.. and touch it to pin one of the air module to see if the lights come on.. but they are cheap now anyways.. and you will have a extra ground unit hehe..
Does telemetry work on factory firmware 3.1.2 and APM v252_v5.0 252 v5 ? Why you have firmware 3.2 3.2.1 firmware fix?
hello friend wanted to know if the big shark version can be connected telemetry ?
I would greatly appreciate your response
+daniel catrihual urrutia I don't have a big shark apm,, so I can't say yes or no.
I would believe the answer is no depending what apm is truly inside it.
have you opened up your unit to see what apm build number it actually came with?. ... Pin 2 and 3 on the 2560(if that is the cpu you have) is your telemetry uart tx/rx .. So if you are able to program with mission planner to 3.2.1. and if your board does not have any traces for pin 2 and pin3 I'm sure you could hack in telemetry. ... Worst case is just order new apm 2.6
Usually it is the factory installed software 3.1.2 or 3.1.5
However to down grade and upgrade you can do that through mission planner.
+Alex Echeverría Oh, and Mission Planner asks me if I want to upgrade APM but I have not done that yet as I have read things can change to the bad.
Thank you...RCgroups is little help!
+Kaur Põldmaa Did you make sure your positive and negative were done right?... If it was done right , Your 3dr was / is probably defective .
+bangs6996 Yes they are connected properly, controlled using multimeter. I assumed its defective also -.-
IF it came that way, you might just of a solder jump on something . the cap on the right side can also be shorted out. You would have to remove it to test it..... .. for testing you just need the positive and negative. and basically you will have to touch the components to see which one is heating up.. ....If you want measurements after removing components let me know I can send you mine..
Hey I can't unlock motors the lights just keep turning on and off In a beep format
I tried unlocking in anyway is it something in the mission planner..please help....
+Berk Kip .. not sure if you figured it out yet.. but you can try to go to standard params and set Arming check to disabled or skip gps
+Berk Kip 0:27 of the video look at the picture and match up colors the same.. On the air module it should be marked either on the board tx,rx,5v,gnd, or on the plastic shell
+bangs6996 I subbed...sorry but one last question.
My cable with a four cable input spaces not five like in the video
Should I buy a new cable....what's the name of the cable???
Or will it fit the cx20,
You can check out the cable they gave me its in the previous link I sent you;)
Thanks and keep up the great vids!!!
Regards
-Berk
Came with****
+Berk Kip did it also come with that other cable.. ....it looks like it is a 5 pin one..so maybe u can take it off that cable? if not u can take out the black pin snip the end of the cable connector with nail clippers and push in the black one at the end.. that might sound confusing .. in this video i show the theory of it heh...
ruclips.net/video/_yl4VaZnpMI/видео.html jump to the time 30:22 in that video
hello friend, a question connect telemetry to CX20 all well but as you do to do missions, I have a tablet and put the mission and then save it to file and when I wanted to do the mission I opened the file, then send to apm and then loaded from apm but did not do that I can do.
erikson yol
Please try to ask your question again with different words, your translator did not work right.
bangs6996 I will upload video of that step in about 10 mins. in case that is what you wanted to know.
bangs6996 ok so I uploaded this ruclips.net/video/szTp_p0k_vk/видео.html if this is not your question. please ask again. I'm sure it might be helpful to somebody some day anyways.. plus I wanted to see how quick I could make, edit and upload a video lol..
bangs6996 Gracias por tu vídeo buena información voy a seguir su consejo
My CX-20 is in the mail it said it is open source does that mean its like yours "same board"
+ziggyzbeak Yup it should be....
My rotors won't arm since I installed my telemetry unit. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Thanks
Hi .. did you disable arming check? .. .. just to test it out..
ruclips.net/video/mrBWEATUbus/видео.html
I leave mine disabled all the time ..however might not be the brightest idea if you have something wrong with your compass ect..
Your welcome ..and thanks for posting your fix..hopefully it helps somebody else..
Thank you I'll try that
I plugged into the APM and was able to load mission planner.
Yeah I tryed switching the tx and rx, still a no go. Is it possible I fryed the unit and the green light will still come on.
Crowstooth ..thank you..
--> go to config/tuning -->standard params --->RTL_Altitude(RTL_ALT) mine is set to 424 .the 424 is in cm's ...
What happens if I don't download it with x older will it not work on mission planner
+Berk Kip ..which apm do you have? the hex should load with mission planner custom option..
+bangs6996 This is basically out dated so you can just use mission planner load custom firmware option ..if you get a error while writing just try again once.. if you get a error again ..load version 3.2.1 then move to xloader but basically its the same thing
I have to download everything that you show in the video, the mine has otg cable the lights are green but when I connect it happens nothing has threads four colors I have put it in cx20 to work
+erikson yol Hi, with the part that plugs into the cx20 does this happen 8:41 the red blinking light? otg cable needs Tower/droidplanner and 3dr Services. for your phone
and as install you the 3 Dr service to my phone
+erikson yol with the otg can you connect usb cable directly to cx20 ?
Thank you will approve
Thank you for how we have to fix the cable of the apm I worked on my tablet, a question as you do to do the missions that buttons you use to make it fly automatic example (swb 1 and 2 swa) or other
And how to enter compass calibration in custom firmware?
You have to go through mission planner .. Initial setup --> Mandatory Hardware --> Compass ..then do a live calibration.... I also have a video that will let you reload the factory oem firmware if you wan't to go back to using the cx20 to calibrate it instead..
+bangs6996 and how to do it outside without computer?
You can't with any other firmware accept the factory firmware... ..So if you really need that option you will need to downgrade back to version 3.1.2 .. ....
Thanks a ton for this video, i had very bad experience with the telemetry setup, i fried one with the default wrong connection on the power line of the cable (inverted polarity), ordered another and i was careful this time, still didn't worked as the bug in the latest firmware (wondering how APM creators still didn't fixed this bug), with the custom framework it worked, but this is not the latest version :-(
All works...that's the essential....bravo...hats off.
I wonder there are lot of wrong information on the internet on setting up the telemetry, the worst i was in the infamous site www.instructables.com/id/Cheerson-CX-20-3DR-Radio-for-New-Board/?ALLSTEPS
where they are asking to solder the TX RX cable directly on the micro-controller pin (near to it), i am sure this will work as there are multiple serial connection possible with the Ardunio Mega, but this is very cumbersome or even dangerous (as we can easily mess up during the micro soldering)
(the one with the usb end)
what color blinks.. ..usually its green but i'm assuming yours will be blue then..
once that is blinking.. plug in your cx 20.. does it stop blinking?
and go solid..
next.. .. with it plugged into your computer only..
go into mission planner.. set the com port to the telemetry ground unit.. and the baud rate 57600
(don't push connect!!!)
go to initial setup
sik radio.
and push load settings
what happens..?
.. if nothing populates try 9600 as the baud rate and go back to sik radio and load settings.
keep trying different baud rates all the way up to 115200
let me know if populates with info with load settings....if it is just a baud rate ....then you can connect the air unit into cx20 and try loading settings again with which ever baud rate and set them both to 57600 ect... Mission planner does have a param as well to set the baud rate for telem in standard params around the bottom..
the setting show up....quad should not be powered up...right
what baud rate did you use?
you can try again with it connected to see if both sides populate.
57600 mp is the same... only the ground side populated. Just to confirm the wireing..... black, yellow green red... is that correct?
Hi bangs6996 How about if I use only the OSD, can you teach us how to install to the APM? Mine is CX20 APM V252 V5.. Please please please.
HI .. i do have a osd video.... i'll re watch it my self..
I will put a step by step together soon..
bangs6996 I think thats the only OSD suitable for my quad version. if you share your knowledge about it, we really appreciate it. Thanks man!
Tried to send you a message through subs..but don't think you are subbed to me.. so i'll just post here.. that I uploaded a video for you. its a tad messy so hopefully you can fallow along
Hi Bangs6996
I have followed all the steps from your video, when I tried to connect to the telemetry the computer shows a dialog screen with messages:
"Connecting Mavlink"
Trying to connect
Timeout in 12
"No heartbeat packets received"
Can you tell me what I did wrong?
Thank you
Dibay.
bangs6996
No it doesn't stop blinking when I plugged in the ground unit into my computer, the ground unit blinking green and red, but the air unit green light keeps blinking none stop. My current firmware is 3.2.1.
What is your suggestion?
Thanks.
Di Bay Rc Did you load the firmware fix I suggested in the video that corrects the telemetry issue with version 3.2.1? 10:47 ish
Where is the Hex file for APM 3.2.1?
in the description under firmware.. I linked version 3.15 and 3.2.1..
hey man how can i know if fried something..? i think i connected it wrong and it doesent work..
does the green light come on still?.... .. The wires can be a pain in the butt for making connections once you remove them from the connector .
Damm,no light at all... ,I tested with voltmeter and saw there is 5v but there no light... so it's fried right?
You can try to jump everything and put 5 volts on pin one,
ruclips.net/video/mTYkbxj42N4/видео.html
also remove what ever component leads up to pin one.. regulator ,cap, ect... plug in the ground unit into your computer or power brick before hand as well. the green light should blink .. once you plug in the air module. if the light goes solid on the ground unit ..you might be in luck
But when you hook up voltage in reverse on something its a gambling game, anything could of fried...
why i lost "RNGFND" after upgrade this firmware
+Dominiz X .. if your using sonar on the original apm .. ..in the comments cjkcizur posted a firmware that re enables the sonar .. plus telemetry .. ruclips.net/video/Fu89L8fJt-w/видео.html
+bangs6996 but read over what he disabled.. if something he disabled you need just post .one of us will fix you a firmware update.. besides that it could be mission planner is messed up and you need to uninstall it and re install older version ect..
Sorrry icant read all english. Thank for reply
+bangs6996 i just new soldering apm in new update? or only update HEX my cx20 ready to use sonar and telemetry, Thank alot.
Hi, thanks for this great job.
the firmware link is a dead, i found it here. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2536440
I notice that the red light on boot don't blink as the official 3.2.1, and sometimes i got gps signal loss/3d fix/loss/3d fix etc... with Tower app.
So i recalibrate radio, compass, and accel with MP and after auto trim, the CX-20 flight very stable
Thanks again
You get better distance as well if you increase the power on your telemetry .You can do that within mission planner. Somebody else suggested that to me in one of these videos.. However I find it glitches my sonar.... thank you for letting me know the link was dead. I just uploaded the 2 files to my google drive this way it won't happen again..
oops you were in my spam comment section..for 2 days, I am bad for checking that and my private messages.. glad you got it going.. I'm having audio issues right now but will check your vid.. and thanks for the plug..
у меня на квадрокоптере не горят GPS Огни почему так
green light? it never comes on?
Try to bring it outside for about 5 mins or more and see if it can find the satellite..
You might want to arm the quadcopter after 5 mins and look in the logs to see if it finds it.., you don't need the propellers on for this test..move the throttle up a bit so it does not disarm for about one more minute..
Or connect to mission planner and see if it finds a satellite, only plug in the usb cable and leave it alone for about 10 mins.
