Very grateful you for this tutorial. I've been a long time trout and salmon fisherman and setting the hook on Bass has been one of my biggest challenge. Thank you for the in depth info...You are by far the most informative fisherman on RUclips!
Such an important video as my arsenal and success increases. Every time you are on a bait you learn that you need a different type of hook set. I started fishing 2 + years ago and bass fishing the last 6 months, and I still feel like a total novice. These tips are so incredibly useful, I've been sharing them with all my friends I'm getting into fishing.
Thanks Nick. This information is priceless for reducing one of the worst reactions when it comes to setting a hook...PANIC!! I have seen Anglers with 10-20 years of experience who still panic. This is great information to ingrain into an entry level angler before bad habits set in. Once the proper hookset becomes part of the 'thought process' when you're tying on a lure the confidence level goes up along with the hookup ratio and the Panic level goes down. Thanks again for sharing IF.
Hey Nick, Great info! I have learned something here and can't wait to get on the water to use it. I have lost many fish with the "slack line" issue you have mentioned here and really did not know how to address it until I seen your video today. I really like to sweep hook set and makes a lot of sense. I will be subscribing. Thanks again.
hey Nick. just wanted to say that you make the best fishing vids on the youtubes, thanks for all the help and keep the vids coming, all your tips are gonna come in super handy on my families upcoming tour of the country. I'm gonna fish my way across the USA , and on that subject, we are starting out by going from SoCal to Vegas, to AZ, to TX, to FL, to N.Y. over the next 3 months......... can you give me some ideas for good lakes, rivers, streams in and around those cities and states? Thanks again Nick you are without a doubt the most Informative Fisherman I know lol cheers sir and I wish you good luck and hook ups
Thank bro I truly appreciate you saying that! That sounds like an amazing trip! Google FLW and Bassmasters top ten lakes and you can dial what ones into visiting along the way, good luck!
Man I really appreciate this info....I've been cracking the whip getting frustrated why I couldnt set the hook.....I never even k ow about the different ways to set different hooks.......thank you man...
Great info. Just started using the N.E.D rig, hooked a decent fish, and fumbled on the hook set..... too much previous info had me paranoid on the hook set, and afraid of bending the light hook. Needless to say, it was a catch and L.D.R (long distance release)-
InformativeFisherman Kudos to you brother! I have been killing it with the NED rig and knowing (now) the proper hookset. To prove it to myself, I have been fishing a extremly pressured small public floating dock at a popular resevoir for 5 days straight, with only half hour sessions, I managed ten LMB's, and one SMB. Nothing record breaking, all in the 1.5 - 3lb range, but still enjoyable none the less! Thanks for the vidoes, appreciate it.
Nick very informative thanks! One question my BC has trouble reeling line on bigger fish over 12lbs should i tighten drag all the way? When trying to land fish?
I've been having trouble setting the hook when I frog fish. I hit it to early, or I wait too long. I either rip it's face off, or give it enough time to spit it out. Granted I haven't had a bigin blow up on me yet but I still should be able to land them
Hey Nick. I was watching a Glenn May video where he says to ALWAYS drop your rod and give some slack before setting the hook with jigs. It seems you have an opposite idea. Is he referring to a different amount of slack that what you are talking about? Thx
+informativefisherman it would be really cool if you did a fishing video with some boys outs and cub scouts in your local area and teach them a few thing on bass fishing and fishing in general
Hi Nick.. I have a Helios Reel with a 40lb Test P-Line TCB Braid line. How can spool my reel with out the line digging in it. Also If I put the drag on full if I reel a fish the handle stays spinning with the spool in still position. Please help me..
Does copolymer line float? I have some "fluorocarbon coated line" and I am wondering if it floats before I spool up. I want to throw little poppers with it. Thanks in advance!
thanks for the info. now I just need to find a place I can get to near turlock where I can bank fish from my wheelchair since I don't have a boat and can't afford a guide lol.
The thing is, I feel the bite but everytime I try to set it, nothing. Rarely I catch fish. Also I get snagged a lot on bottom rigs & end up losing my bait/hook/rig/sinker.
Sweeping hookset. If it's got treble hook no matter what sweep the hook set. Single point hooks are best with a upward hookset. Small hooks you use a upward lean.
slack it, reel it, jam it, set it, walk da dog home, jam it, reel it, tight lines ya'll no spoon feeding technique's, let em learn the hard way and remember it forever where are the actual fishing video yo, less B-roll and more actual fishing pls

As a fairly new fisherman, this is extremely helpful. I hadn't been reeling in slack line, and that explains a lot. Thanks!
*And this is why Nick is known as The InformativeFisherman. Sweep hook set for treble hooks rod pointed at the lure, got it!*
For reel! (pun intended) Trying that out tomorrow for sure

@@InformativeFisherman Indeed. Just seeing this comment.
Awesome!
when are you going to post a video about your exbo
I'm going to post a little highlight on FaceBook next week
If i wait to feel the weight of the fish after the bite, it will pass 5 seconds. It will not expel the hook before i set the hook??? :o
great channel, good info.... just sub'd your channel
The thing is, I feel the bite but everytime I try to set it, nothing. Rarely I catch fish. Also I get snagged a lot on bottom rigs & end up losing my bait/hook/rig/sinker.

How would you set the hook on a rattle trap(Rat-L-Trap)
Sweeping hookset. If it's got treble hook no matter what sweep the hook set.
Single point hooks are best with a upward hookset.
Small hooks you use a upward lean.

I drove through there before and though I seen a community lake with sidewalks
InformativeFisherman if you're talking about Donnelly park there is no fishing only feeding the carp bread.
