The reason why gouache picks up the under layer is that you're using a thinner paint layer to go on top! If you want to layer your colours easier, you'll need to make sure that you're painting with a slightly thicker layer (aka less water, more paint on your brush) as you go. There's also acrylic gouache, which has the appearance of gouache, but works exactly like acrylics, which means that water won't be able to reactive them, making layering very easy! Either way though, the painting you created was still absolutely adorable!
I remember being told… fat over lean in art school. It was to remind us not to paint on top of oil paints but it works for this too. Layers should get heavier as you build away from the paper. 👍🏻
i've started graphic design at art uni this year, so am really looking forward to watching your videos whilst also working on my own uni stuff. loved this! :)
Beautiful video! I'm so happy for you getting gouache. I highly recommend a video by Mary Sanche called how to use gouache, tea to butter method. Your room looks great btw.🌟
About 3 weeks ago I started the foundation diploma at leeds arts uni and I'm enjoying it!! The projects are very different from what I'm used to so far but I'm learning a lot from it. I'm thinking I'll prolly apply for their comic and concept art degree but I'm not 100% sure yet aaaa
Love your art so much and have just been on your Etsy shop as I’m wanting to start selling my own paintings on there , I don’t know if you’ve already covered this in a video but to get the prints done who do you use and is it easy , inexpensive? Thankyou x
Just a lil suggestion but you should try drawing more animals 😀. This is a bit random but I want to see how you'll draw raccoon dogs (tanuki) and foxes. Love your art as usual ❤💖
the window is def a huge plus for that room so much light 😀 gouache is evil, evil i say! ............. i swear its an art supply that is out to kill me lol

Thanks so much! This is a massive help :)
The face you gave the cat is actually perfect. So sweet 😭 I want to give them a smooch
you're actually one of the rare english-speaking people who pronounce "gouache" correctly, and i thank you for it ! 😄 (french speaker)
If that kitty painting ever ended up in your Etsy shop as a print I would buy it so fast! I love your style!
I love the landscape painting with the sheep. Would love to be able to buy it as an art print

If it'll help any, I do watercolor base layer (good amount of layers) and then use gouache for the finer details on top.
i’ve had a long and exhausting day and this is the perfect way to relax at the end of the day ☺️
Very fun to watch 🍄
