- In today's video I give a quick overview of the Carol Ann Duffy poem 'War Photographer'. For the full analysis follow this link: • Carol Ann Duffy: 'War ...
Why is part of this video blurry? I was able to obtain copyright permission for 12/15 poems in this cluster, but for the three I didn’t get (and this is one of them) I am using an ‘exception to copyright’ under the UK government rules which can be found here: www.gov.uk/gui...
I am using the exception listed as ‘’Fair dealing for criticism’. The document explains that ‘Fair dealing for criticism, review or quotation is allowed for any type of copyright work.’ So I am critiquing the poem, which would fall under this exception.
But that does not necessarily mean I can recreate the entire poem in the video. As the document continues:
‘Factors that have been identified by the courts as relevant in determining whether a particular dealing with a work is fair include:
* does using the work affect the market for the original work? If a use of a work acts as a substitute for it, causing the owner to lose revenue, then it is not likely to be fair
* is the amount of the work taken reasonable and appropriate? Was it necessary to use the amount that was taken? Usually only part of a work may be used.’
So my application of this is that I am not going to show the full poem on-screen, as this could affect the market for the original work (in others words people may not buy the poem because they can read it here in full). As a result, I have blurred out parts of the poem on-screen. It’s not entirely clear whether I need to do this, but I want to side with the poet who has worked so hard to create this fantastic poem, which is copyright Carol Ann Duffy.

@@perrythedapapus4153 how did it go?
@@dartedhearts I did 2 questions out of 8🫠
One poem you could compare it to that most people don't think of is Ozymandias - both focus on the lack of control characters have over people's general perceptions, despite so much work. Both also have a cyclical structure to reflect that, though war photographer's rhyme scheme is more regular
Thanks cos I have mock exams in 2-3 weeks
True man
could you do a video on exactly HOW to write a comparative essay on the poems
i would also argue , 'ruralengland' is also linking to the regular people who arnt being affected by war , potentialls being direted at the reader

Did u post videos about Macbeth btw? I can’t find it
Yes: look in the playlists. I have over 50 videos on ‘Macbeth’.
@@mrbruff oh ok I found it, thanks for posting them sir and replying to my comment! Have a nice day.
Very good. The same passage in Isaiah 40 is also in Psalm 103.15 which is traditionally attributed to David who was himself a warrior who before his accession to the throne knew times of isolation. Indeed one of the Messianic names for Jesus of Nazareth was "son of David" who is the one whose body is broken in the "Mass" alluded to in stanza 1.
is okay to compare how the point how when you see news in the newspaper people are sad and then forget about it to the overall message to show how the poet is expresing peoples overall thoughts about war????
It is finally over
can you do language paper 2 2021 style
It’s done: see my Language paper 2 playlist.

Another top class video from MR BRUFF 🥶
Idk how I’m supposed to remember this stuff 15 times
Could you make the comparison with remains between the similarity of the soldier seeing the blood shadow which shows a memory haunting him when he looks at where the person was killed and when the photographer sees the image come faintly like a “ half formed ghost” as it slowly reappears into his memory which shows the true horrors of war and the guilt they feel
Imagine being at school
