    Total class Mr. Bugner. He's right! Ali was magic... in and out of the ring. He was a joy to watch. Bugner wasn't to shabby himself. Ali gave more then he ever got out boxing. Made the careers of many boxers. Would we even be talking about Bugner today if it weren't for Ali? No!

      Angelo Dundee cleverly split Ali's glove while Ali was on his stool dazed after being knocked down at the end of the round. After the ref was shown the split the fight was paused while they tended to Ali's glove and Ali's head cleared from the knock down.

    Joe Bugner is a man and a fighter I will always respect. Many may not call him a great fighter, truth is he didn't need to be, he was great in his own way. To go up against *THE* heavy weights of his era, practically all of them, and go the distance? That in itself is respectable because of the challenge he sought, the fight he was willing to put into each match.

    What a beautiful eulogy to the Champ, Muhammad Ali. Joe Bugner was also a great boxer, better than Quarry by far, much smarter in the ring, and lion hearted as well.

    • @johngerard3218
      @johngerard3218 7 лет назад +1

      Quarry would have taken Bugner apart, like he did to Lyle, Matthis, Shavers, Mac Foster, and That Spencer.

    • @mikevaldez7684
      @mikevaldez7684 7 лет назад +2

      John Gerard
      Quarry let ego get in his way; he was not as skilled as Bugner, either. And Quarry didn't do as well against the same opponent's.

    • @johngerard3218
      @johngerard3218 7 лет назад

      Bugner had a great jaw, good boxing skills, and stamina. He lacked a real punch, killer instinct, and was plodding and mechanical. The Quarry who beat Ron Lyle, Mac Foster, Buster Mathis, and Thad Spencer would have taken Joe apart. You are wrong about same opponents, Larry Middleton easily beat Bugner and was beaten by Quarry.

    • @JimmyPlato1
      @JimmyPlato1 5 лет назад

      In 1974 Joe Bugner refused to fight Jerry Quarry. Bugner was a better boxer than Quarry, but Quarry was a much bigger puncher. I must say that a match between these two would have been very interesting.

    Joe speaks with great respect and humility. A clearly very intelligent man. Hard to believe so soon after this interview, that he is in the advanced stages of Alzeihmers Disease. Just shows how dangerous the sport is and the risks taken by great men like Joe, Muhammad, et al. Hopefully a cure is found in the future as many current and past players of contact sports, potentially face a similar fate.

    Joe was one of the best heavyweights this country has produced, only Lennox Lewis and perhaps Anthony Joshua (in the future) surpass him. He had the bad luck to beat a national hero in Henry Cooper and to be around in the greatest era of heavyweight boxing. Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, Cooney, Ellis, Cooper,Tate, Weaver, Dokes, Page, Coetzee, Witherspoon the list of great fighters during Joe's long career goes on and on!

    I live in Australia, and I can assure you all, that Joe genuinely loved Ali,😊they had such a, "beautiful personal relationship", as well as a, "boxing relationship'🤔, as even though they both obviously wanted too beat the other, it, "WAS 💯 PC"!!!, "LEFT in the boxing ring", and joe was, 'totally heartbroken"😢, when Ali became Ill😢, he was, "just like George Foreman still is top this very day,", he KNEW he was beaten fair and square in both of their fights🤔 And, they, " loved BOTH, AND adored one another until the day Ali died", 😢, and, it's a beautiful thing to see 2 of greatest heavyweight boxers who ever existed, who, "loved and acknowledged just how great the other was", and, in Australia, in day's gone by, if, 2 men had an argument about something, they'd have a fair, bare fist fight, then no matter which of the men won, they'd go and HAVE a few beers together, and it, "WAS 💯 PC forgotten"!!!, because they, "BOTH KNEW", that their differences had been sorted out 🙂 AND, "the victor," "would help the other bloke up",🙂 because they WERE decent men, who'd laugh about it over a few beers!!!, BECAUSE, "Aussies were known to be", the ",best of sports",🙂but, they, "JUST DON'T Make men", like that anymore sadly😢, because these days one of them d probably, "stab a bloke"😢, they had a, "difference of opinion with", on many occasions"😟, but,😢"they are still in the minority', and, in my humble opinion, Ali, was, "THE greatest heavyweight boxer"!!!, who who ever existed🤔, and by geez, "joe bugner", WAS a, VERY close second", or 3rd 🤔!!!, AS, "many people", forgot, "it was NOT!!!, ONLY ALI vs Frazier!?", Who, "WENT the full distance", EXCEPT!!,"In their 3rd bout", and I'll leave it at that,🤔, BUT!!!, the vast majority of people, "forgot that Joe bugner",🤔 ALSO!!,"went, full the distance", "WITH Ali twice too',🤔in a, ,"clean fought slugfest"!!!, and, sadly, joe bugner , "who's lived in Australia now for decades", has been suffering from dementia😢, which is just so sad.

    Quite why Jerry Quarry was mentioned in the comments, I’m not sure but with Jerry, he always gave 110 %. With Joe you were nearly always left feeling that he had more to offer and could have dug deeper. This is why, I think the British fight fans never really took him to their hearts, nothing to do with beating Henry.

I think its a good idea. also its interesting because the sparring partner is battling their teacher knowing everything. also they then have to go toe to toe as if to try to kill their former partner. Joe was in with the best of his time, and was Never blown out.
    In fact, he was always very competitive.
    And we’re talking Ali, Frazier, Cooper, Ellis, Bruno, Shavers and many other really good fighters. He won many of those fights. Never blown out, or even Close to being blown out.
    Only reason he lasted only 2 rounds with Shavers was he got cut-and that might have been a head butt.
    Still in charge of all his faculties, because he was a “defense-first “ fighter. Just lacked that little extra spark of agility that separates the good from the great.

    Joe Bugner is one of thje least informed people on earth. LOL: In February of 1973, he found out Ali had gotten a robe from Elvis Presley, one which Ali in fact used in his first fight against Bugner. Anyways he was invited to the 30th floor of the then Hilton Hotel, now the Westgate and had the guts to ask his host, Elvis, to give him one as well. Elvis said he wasnt the champ, or something to that effect , so Bugner got real mad and told Elvis to fo to hell. In an interview many years later, he bad mouthed Presley and spoke highly of Frank Sinatra because he had helped someone he knew, Joe Louis, get a job as a greeter at a Vegas Hotel., In 2011, the Mayor of Budapest made Elvis an honorary citizen of that beautiful city, the capital of the country where Bugner had been born, and thus became the only person born on US soil to have that honour,. The recognition came after Elvis launched an emergency appeal for funds to be used to resettle 250,000 Hungarians fleeing the Soviet Invasion of their country. The entire Bugner family was a part of that operation, which yielded US$6m, in 1957 dollars, the equivalent in 2022 of US$59m, which were distrubuted via perihabkes and non perishables to the quarter million in both England and Austria. Joe Bugner was 6 years old when he was first touched by the magic of Elvis Presley. but ever since 2011 he has failed to acknowledge the debt he and his family owed to Elvis, and certainly not to Sinatra.
