The great Joe Bugner you've gotta love the bloke. To even be in the same room as Ali most of us would dine out on that for rest of our lives, Joe was not only in the same room he jumped in the ring with him went the distance with Ali twice & Smokin Joe Frazier once Joes a bloody legend in my book.
Total class Mr. Bugner. He's right! Ali was magic... in and out of the ring. He was a joy to watch. Bugner wasn't to shabby himself. Ali gave more then he ever got out boxing. Made the careers of many boxers. Would we even be talking about Bugner today if it weren't for Ali? No!
Joe fought everyone back in the day including Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Ali, Joe Frazier, Jimmy Ellis and even beat Bonecrusher Smith for a title.....one of the toughest chins in boxing and could move and box pretty well for a big man.....82in reach!
Yeh but Henry boxed his ears off ,Joe was given the British ,European and Commonwealth heavyweight championship because no one could beat Henrys hammer ,at the time that is.Clays fight was FIXED ,Henry had him with that left hook.
Angelo Dundee cleverly split Ali's glove while Ali was on his stool dazed after being knocked down at the end of the round. After the ref was shown the split the fight was paused while they tended to Ali's glove and Ali's head cleared from the knock down.
Rivals with sportsmanship attitude, once they were, now they are, only nostalgic feeling and respect towards other without mudslinging, respect to Bugnar, for he sees it and says it like it was, respect to both boxers, spread love receive love, God bless.
Joe Bugner is a man and a fighter I will always respect. Many may not call him a great fighter, truth is he didn't need to be, he was great in his own way. To go up against *THE* heavy weights of his era, practically all of them, and go the distance? That in itself is respectable because of the challenge he sought, the fight he was willing to put into each match.
What a beautiful eulogy to the Champ, Muhammad Ali. Joe Bugner was also a great boxer, better than Quarry by far, much smarter in the ring, and lion hearted as well.
Bugner had a great jaw, good boxing skills, and stamina. He lacked a real punch, killer instinct, and was plodding and mechanical. The Quarry who beat Ron Lyle, Mac Foster, Buster Mathis, and Thad Spencer would have taken Joe apart. You are wrong about same opponents, Larry Middleton easily beat Bugner and was beaten by Quarry.
In 1974 Joe Bugner refused to fight Jerry Quarry. Bugner was a better boxer than Quarry, but Quarry was a much bigger puncher. I must say that a match between these two would have been very interesting.
It's hard to believe only 8 years later he be in a home not knowing what a legend he is. I read he still thinks his wife is alive and doesn't remember being a boxer...... He'll be missed when he's gone.
Joe speaks with great respect and humility. A clearly very intelligent man. Hard to believe so soon after this interview, that he is in the advanced stages of Alzeihmers Disease. Just shows how dangerous the sport is and the risks taken by great men like Joe, Muhammad, et al. Hopefully a cure is found in the future as many current and past players of contact sports, potentially face a similar fate.
Joe was one of the best heavyweights this country has produced, only Lennox Lewis and perhaps Anthony Joshua (in the future) surpass him. He had the bad luck to beat a national hero in Henry Cooper and to be around in the greatest era of heavyweight boxing. Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, Cooney, Ellis, Cooper,Tate, Weaver, Dokes, Page, Coetzee, Witherspoon the list of great fighters during Joe's long career goes on and on!
I feel sorry for Joe. He’s a good guy , but was never forgiven by the British public & media for that win over Henry Cooper. It was such a close fight, & the decision could have gone either way.
I can't stop laughing as Joe does his shtick. Great fighter, I don't blame him for going so hard on Dunn during his comeback for the Euro-heavyweight crown, always under appreciated for his level of talent demonstrated.
I live in Australia, and I can assure you all, that Joe genuinely loved Ali,😊they had such a, "beautiful personal relationship", as well as a, "boxing relationship'🤔, as even though they both obviously wanted too beat the other, it, "WAS 💯 PC"!!!, "LEFT in the boxing ring", and joe was, 'totally heartbroken"😢, when Ali became Ill😢, he was, "just like George Foreman still is top this very day,", he KNEW he was beaten fair and square in both of their fights🤔 And, they, " loved BOTH, AND adored one another until the day Ali died", 😢, and, it's a beautiful thing to see 2 of greatest heavyweight boxers who ever existed, who, "loved and acknowledged just how great the other was", and, in Australia, in day's gone by, if, 2 men had an argument about something, they'd have a fair, bare fist fight, then no matter which of the men won, they'd go and HAVE a few beers together, and it, "WAS 💯 PC forgotten"!!!, because they, "BOTH KNEW", that their differences had been sorted out 🙂 AND, "the victor," "would help the other bloke up",🙂 because they WERE decent men, who'd laugh about it over a few beers!!!, BECAUSE, "Aussies were known to be", the ",best of sports",🙂but, they, "JUST DON'T Make men", like that anymore sadly😢, because these days one of them d probably, "stab a bloke"😢, they had a, "difference of opinion with", on many occasions"😟, but,😢"they are still in the minority', and, in my humble opinion, Ali, was, "THE greatest heavyweight boxer"!!!, who who ever existed🤔, and by geez, "joe bugner", WAS a, VERY close second", or 3rd 🤔!!!, AS, "many people", forgot, "it was NOT!!!, ONLY ALI vs Frazier!?", Who, "WENT the full distance", EXCEPT!!,"In their 3rd bout", and I'll leave it at that,🤔, BUT!!!, the vast majority of people, "forgot that Joe bugner",🤔 ALSO!!,"went, full the distance", "WITH Ali twice too',🤔in a, ,"clean fought slugfest"!!!, and, sadly, joe bugner , "who's lived in Australia now for decades", has been suffering from dementia😢, which is just so sad.
Joe bugner 1 of the best that was ever in Britain , and not far off being a world champion , He gave them all heaps of trouble but didn't get the wins ,I always felt he wasn't aggressive enough ,
Quite why Jerry Quarry was mentioned in the comments, I’m not sure but with Jerry, he always gave 110 %. With Joe you were nearly always left feeling that he had more to offer and could have dug deeper. This is why, I think the British fight fans never really took him to their hearts, nothing to do with beating Henry.
Joe Bugner was and is a Class act all the way around and Muhammad Ali Loved Joe Bugner. There is a lesson to be learned here? Ali said somethings about Joe being white but deep down Muhammad Ali actually didn't hate white people (except for the White federal government) because Muhammad Ali actually had white blood in him from Ireland. His Great Grandfather was white.
Lol , Bugner has a great self effacing sense of humor . He's a good mate as they say across the pond . and i agree , there will never be anyone in boxing again like the great ALI . he was intelligent and entertaining at so many things, not just boxing .
an interesting upload to do would be "list of sparring partners" that ended up beating their teachers. I think its a good idea. also its interesting because the sparring partner is battling their teacher knowing everything. also they then have to go toe to toe as if to try to kill their former partner. I think it would be a fascinating upload
Joe was in with the best of his time, and was Never blown out. In fact, he was always very competitive. And we’re talking Ali, Frazier, Cooper, Ellis, Bruno, Shavers and many other really good fighters. He won many of those fights. Never blown out, or even Close to being blown out. Only reason he lasted only 2 rounds with Shavers was he got cut-and that might have been a head butt. Still in charge of all his faculties, because he was a “defense-first “ fighter. Just lacked that little extra spark of agility that separates the good from the great.
Aussie Joe Bugner...AUSSIE Joe Bugner...?!...via Hungary, London,St.Ives(!)...😙 ...Bugner suffered a humiliating defeat to Frank Bruno when Bugner was clearly over the hill... nobody ever said that that fight should not have happened...the British public never forgave Joe for beating Henry Cooper...😙
Joe Bugner is one of thje least informed people on earth. LOL: In February of 1973, he found out Ali had gotten a robe from Elvis Presley, one which Ali in fact used in his first fight against Bugner. Anyways he was invited to the 30th floor of the then Hilton Hotel, now the Westgate and had the guts to ask his host, Elvis, to give him one as well. Elvis said he wasnt the champ, or something to that effect , so Bugner got real mad and told Elvis to fo to hell. In an interview many years later, he bad mouthed Presley and spoke highly of Frank Sinatra because he had helped someone he knew, Joe Louis, get a job as a greeter at a Vegas Hotel., In 2011, the Mayor of Budapest made Elvis an honorary citizen of that beautiful city, the capital of the country where Bugner had been born, and thus became the only person born on US soil to have that honour,. The recognition came after Elvis launched an emergency appeal for funds to be used to resettle 250,000 Hungarians fleeing the Soviet Invasion of their country. The entire Bugner family was a part of that operation, which yielded US$6m, in 1957 dollars, the equivalent in 2022 of US$59m, which were distrubuted via perihabkes and non perishables to the quarter million in both England and Austria. Joe Bugner was 6 years old when he was first touched by the magic of Elvis Presley. but ever since 2011 he has failed to acknowledge the debt he and his family owed to Elvis, and certainly not to Sinatra.
I’m glad Joe has found a good life in Australia. Joe never got the respect he deserved in Britain. Typical Brits rated Bruno has a better fighter. Bruno wasn’t. Joe really was a very good heavyweight in the toughest decade.
A Hungarian refugee whose family fled Hungary to live in Britain, where Joe became British and European champion. You have to be desperate to consider him an Australian Boxer.
Edpred i agree god removed his gifts later... That doesnt mean in the beginning he did his "job" messenging gods message. God knows maybe to "preserve" what he has done and the magic around him.. To not f that up.
Mr.Eggplant joe is still alive! If he died before Ali and then if Ali didn't remember him then we would have a right to say anything against Ali! But this didn't happen! Don't you hear what joe says ? they were friends ! Ali was the guy who likes to talk .. he walks in the streets he talks people ! are you expecting someone he talks strangers but he don't talk to his friends? I hope you got me
ALI was a racist AND he was a marketed product----even in the fights that he lost ---he still got the verdict ----had to keep the circus rolling and the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ coming in -----ALI was brilliant, can't take that away from him but his hype was better than he was----who says so? --I did just then
Big joe was a class heavyweight in a great era !!......Ali wasn't the greatest ever ....he wasn't even the greatest heavyweight ever ....but he was a great man but don't confuse the 2 !!!
Love him or hate him the man went 30 rounds with Ali. Got to respect that.
Great tribute by joe bugner to the greatest Ali
Class.
❤
Absolutely.
Good old Joe, if he was 28 now he would be the undisputed World Champ.
Nice one joe. You also was a class fighter. Thanx for honoring the champ. Respect.
Aye, aye. Well said.
You have to hold your hand up, Joe has a great sense of humour, as well as being a decent heavyweight.
Joe , what a gent and what a great man, 🥊❤️
Every body always remember Ali, Ali actually was a great man in boxing.
No shit Sherlock.
No!
Wonderful tribute, Joe
The whole world still loves him
Joe was always a better fighter than he got credit. And funny !
spot on !
joe and tyson and henry the best of britain.
Not in Ali's league
@@pgs2179 The fight doesn't show that.
a true class act
Lovely men, proper heroes, special both of them
Great tribute worthy of the Ali... nice one Joe 🥊
Haha 😂 Ali had such a great wits in sense of humour ,there will be no one like him
Amazing nice guy.....love you joe.....
Joe Bugner The Best!! 👌👊💪🙏

Great tribute from Joe bugner
Joe is a great man, a great and very hard fighter.
What a gentleman Joe is. And he's right, Ali was the greatest, funniest, nicest and most decent men God ever created.

RESPECT to you always Big Joe !!!!!
big joe stood toe to toe with *any* boxer who crossed his path - without fail.
What a beautiful eulogy to the Champ, Muhammad Ali. Joe Bugner was also a great boxer, better than Quarry by far, much smarter in the ring, and lion hearted as well.
Quarry would have taken Bugner apart, like he did to Lyle, Matthis, Shavers, Mac Foster, and That Spencer.
John Gerard
Quarry let ego get in his way; he was not as skilled as Bugner, either. And Quarry didn't do as well against the same opponent's.
Bugner had a great jaw, good boxing skills, and stamina. He lacked a real punch, killer instinct, and was plodding and mechanical. Joe Bugner . I just felt so sorry for him when Frank Bruno disposed of him but Loved Bruno also
Joe was highly underrated
Even his opponent love him
thanks Joe!
It's great when fighters don't have too hate each other

I like u joe
The boxers of muhammad Ali's contemporaries were all the best boxers of the time.
Mojamet ali es el mejor boxeador hasta el mometo es una leyenda del boxeo
Bugner / ali was definitely a very close fight, it went the full distance
during clinches Muhammad Ali never hit his opponents
Arguably incredible man to admire. indeed he never hit his opponents during clinches. I had to say that also
Bugner said he never saw Ali with a black eye, Ali had a black eye after thrilla in manila in 1975, it was at a press conference after the fight

Lovely fellow is Joe. I could listen to him all day. Very skilled fighter too
Bugner had no right...punched like a feckin middleweight..
an interesting upload to do would be "list of sparring partners" that ended up beating their teachers. "you never met my sister" now that is funny.

Joe Frazier was the greatest of all time
Ali got a black eye from both Bob Foster and Larry Holmes

01:36 Muhammad Ali never got hit in the eye. Ali is a defensive formidable arguably incredible can't hit me.
I’m glad Joe has found a good life in Australia. Joe never got the respect he deserved in Britain. Typical Brits rated Bruno has a better fighter. Bruno wasn’t. Joe really was a very good heavyweight in the toughest decade.
True.
Ali owned him
"One of the greats in Australian boxing " ? He never moved down under until he retired dummy 👍😂🍻
He won a world title when he was fighting under the name "Aussie joe" and when he lived in Australia.
Ali is God
A Hungarian refugee whose family fled Hungary to live in Britain, where Joe became British and European champion.
You have to be desperate to consider him an Australian Boxer.
How is it desperate when he won a world title while fighting for, and living in, Australia as an Australian citizen
Aussie joe bollocks hahahaha
frank bruno beat this man long after his best , be would of beat any of the todays heavyweights
That "magic" we call "Nur" from Allah.
God gave him his special capabilities. In a sense he was sent by God. To tell the black man the truth, Islam.
Islam’s for morons! Anyone who takes the word of a serial child molester a.k.a. muHAMmad is a viscous lying demon!
Edpred i agree god removed his gifts later... That doesnt mean in the beginning he did his "job" messenging gods message.

Qgb
Ali the greatest? Lost 5 times, had no idea what was going on for the last 25 years of his life.
Yup, that's him. The greatest. Always was and always will be.
clay was the greatest racist
Brilliant man
What a gentelman Brugner
