She has now passed the delegate threshold to stand as the candidate, and as we record, no one else has thrown their name into the ring.
Republicans are meanwhile having to accommodate the new reality of having the oldest candidate in the race.
Later, we look at the UK broadcasting landscape with Ofcom regulator Melanie Dawes. Does Ofcom have teeth? And will it use them?

I was amazed with the OFCOM women’s…. What a cop out. 19 investigations, go on for months if not years and as yet no sanction for obvious breaches…. She just didn’t get why this is not acceptable.
No, we don't want 12 investigations, faults found, and no sanctions. That is a waste of public money.

I'd like to offer a little improvement if I may. Ofcom has never been fit for purpose.
It's the parent who counts to three to stop your behaviour, and nothing happens, so you know to ignore counting.
I was aghast at the statement "we are moving to considering...". That's 2 steps and then there's perhaps a sanction. They are nowhere near doing anything other than what they have been doing. At least be honest. This is double talk.

Answered a lot of questions I had about why our media is so useless. It’s not that Ofcom is inherently toothless, it’s that the people running Ofcom don’t understand anything about the media works.

When people talk about the cost of the BBC License fee then seldom take into account the cost of TV adverts that support ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5. Surprise surprise advertising adds twice the cost of the license fee to the average family bills. You pay advertising tax on insurance, weekly shopping, holiday, etc. Total that up and you are out of pocket by over £30 a month. Go and verify by checking the annual returns of ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5, then add a bit for filming the advert (more £ per second than a feature film).

I had no idea what OFCOM did before that interview. And I still don't. I'm also not sure that Dawes was aware of just had badly that interview went.
It's not just Ofcom that are abjectly useless.
The penny dropped while listening to the interview, the role of complaints is to bring matters to Regulators. The Regulators don't take an active role in keeping on top of breaches, they off-load that time-consuming task to the unsuspecting is public.
Having been made aware of a breach in the rules (read the Law), the Regulator may or may not investigate, which may or may not result in a slap on the wrist for the perpetrators.
Only in exceptional cases does anything more happen.
The complaint(s) may have suffered considerable harm and they may have an expectation that the Regulators will provide recompense and justice will be done.
But no, this is, NOT what the system is setup to do.
The complaint is simply the unpaid eyes and ears of the Regulators. And if anyone has ever attempted to bring a complaint to a Regulator their requirements are so specific and particular often involving huge amounts of unpaid work within very limited time frames with very limited limitations.
The system of Regulation is deeply flawed and it can best be described as a means of bureaucratic pacification of the population, where organisations are seen to be held to account.
They are not. It's all a very very expensive merry-go-round

I'd like to point out that at the end of this podcast, Emily's last statement is incorrect.
There are lots of benefits available to parents with more than 2 children. It would be very useful, if when discussing this matter tomorrow, the presenters are very clear as to what benefits are and are not available for a family with more than 2 children - perhaps the programme could create a table of data, 1 parent families with and without child maintenance from absent spouse, with 2, 3,4,5,6 children, in work and out of work, the same for 2 parent families, and then in London, out of London. Children being anyone under 18 not in work or in receipt of Student Loans.
Obviously there are a number of variables, but please research the topic and provide your listeners to accurate data and informed debate. Cheers
