  • We're nearly done this series! For Day 6 of this "Week in the Life of a McGill Music Student" vlog, we had 6 hours of "musique concrète" composition in a row, my last 3 brain cells are fighting for their life haha. I talk about what I consider to be THE hardest composition course at McGill, especially if you are only used to traditional pen-paper/notation. The learning curve is so steep that every year I hear of composition students pulling all-nighters at school to survive the project deadlines, and yes now I can speak from experience - I was one of these unfortunate students pulling an all-nighter. On the bright side, those who survive will learn a new skill: composing with "electronics", so it's worth it if you intend to pursue composition in the future!

Though this type of music is not my cup of tea, it sounds quite cool.

Thanks! It was pretty interesting learning to compose in this new style, nice how I'm learning a wide variety of new techniques!

Those instruments are intriguing; and I like your e-comp, too. Nice work.
I saw your fugue-making fugue vid, too: great, and pretty strictly informative, aesthetics aside. Though also aesthetically pleasing. It, and Glenn Gould's similar piece, are much more fun as study guides than are the textbooks.
Thanks for creating, sharing while you study!
