The Story Of Play Doh - How A WallPaper Cleaner Become The World's Most Popular Toy
The favorite toy of kids, Play-Doh has actually started out as a wallpaper cleaner and then became a toy for children. In this video discover the Play Doh Story, a modeling compound used by young children for arts and crafts projects at home.
Have you ever played with play doh? It comes in a variety of colors and can transform into whatever you can think of. Children transform play doh into snakes, flowers, houses, and anything else they can think of! Have you ever wondered about making play dough?
Play-Doh is now owned by a corporation called Hasbro. It manufactures and sells the product under the Playskool brand. The Toy Industry Association added Play-Doh to their ""Century of Toys List"" in 2003, which includes the 100 most memorable and imaginative toys of the previous 100 years.
The Play Doh Story starts with a failing soap company in Cincinnati known as Kutol. Unfortunately, in the late 1920s when sales fell drastically, and the owners had no choice but to think about closing down Kutol. They left this sad task to 21-years-old Cleo McVicker. His task was simple: sell off all the company's leftover assets of powdered hand soap, and that will be goodbye to the company forever.
Cleo contacted his brother, Noah, and together, they thought of a way to bring Kutol back to life again. A great opportunity for this didn't come until 1933 when Cleo secured a meeting with representatives from the Kroger grocery store. This grocery store wanted a company that could make wallpaper cleaners, and even though they had never made one before that meeting, Cleo claimed that they could.
Noah came up with a breakthrough product from a mixture of flour, salt, and water. This malleable clay-like compound was a massive success and drove Kutol to the top of the industry for about two decades. This amazing company became the go-to source for wallpaper cleaners and was popular in almost every part of the country.
Until the need for wallpaper cleaner was declining that might push the Kutol’s business to a painful end. Fortunately… that wasn’t the case because Play-Doh was invented. Discover the rest of Play Doh Story and the amazing rebranding of its manufacturer by watching video until the end.
