  • The Pedernales was a "lake tanker" built in 1938 to transport Venezuelan crude oil across Lake Maracaibo on to refineries in Aruba.
On the morning of 16 February 1942, she was torpedoed by U-156 and heavily damaged. She was dry docked in Aruba and cut into 3 sections. The fore and aft sections were welded together. She limped to Baltimore, Md. where new mid section was fitted. She was returned to service for the rest of WW2 and beyond, finally retired in 1959.
The original damaged middle section was towed to its current location along with other derelict ships to act as decoys. Weather and time has broken up the wreck. Dutch gunners also helped by using the wreck for target practice. Shell holes are visible in the video.

Shallow. Dive log says max depth 26 feet in 57 mins bottom time. During the briefing, divemaster said "If you want to go deeper, bring a shovel"
