  • In July of 2012 my wife Jan and I traveled to Newport Beach CA to do an interview with the late Gene Allen for my PBS show From Broadway to hollywood. I took some of the raw footage and put this together in honor of the brand new book that Lorna Luft and Jeffrey Vance just released. Gene was one of the true greats of Hollywood and the professional relationship he had with George Cukor was very special-a mutual admiration society.u

Even Lorna Luft who was Judy Garland's daughter said that we will probably never see the original 'uncut' version of "A Star Is Born'. I have seen the original version because I saw it when it first came out at the Chicago Theater...Then when it went to the neighborhood movie houses it was cut. What a damn shame.

The Pasadena comment was a remark about a "Chandler daughter"

It was the first interview I never did. You are right but please understand I was doing the best I could.

Great opportunity to explore a significant picture from Old Hollywood. I think that interviewers should always speak less than the interviewee, however. It felt as though you were interrupting him unnecessarily.
