Hey I wanted to tell you that thanks to you and a couple other guys on RUclips I finally put my own thing together. Self engineered my own device and I cooked my first bourbon mash up almost a week ago along with a honey Mead I got brewing up with it. I figure if i F up the Mead I’ll run it with the bourbon 💪🏻🇺🇸
Best I can tell, If you don't like the outcome you can blend it with other distillate to make something that YOU really like. The craft is all about creating something that you are happy with. Love the comment!
Hi! Welcome! DIY is the fun way to go. But... Being new to the game w/ DIY kit, you want to make sure you know the safety side of things. 150F ethanol is a _strong_ solvent - No lead solder, No brass, No rubber in the still. *No vapor leaks* Have good ventilation. These vapors, well, your car runs on them. E-85 fuel has a lower ethanol concentration than you can make at home over a gas burner. Run your rig as if it were full of gasoline. Not trying to be preachy or doubt your skill, it's just best if our sport stays out of the papers.
Much appreciated my brother, yeah I built it out of a 16 gal stainless milk can and a 8 gal Vevor as a thumper. I drilled a 2” hole in the milk can locking lid and put a 2” bulkhead on it and threaded 2” stainless pipe up to a sight glass and back to a elbow which then goes to copper lines heading to the thumper and so on
The most talked-about flavored 'shine is, of course, Apple Pie. Lots of recipes out there but I've never seen it made. Fireball hot cinnamon is another popular one. For myself, I think a little orange flavor in a corn whiskey could be good, just a touch, but it would be easy for it to get too bitter. I usually age with just a bit of a vanilla bean in with the oak but I'm thinking about trying to use some caramel, either in the aging or in the mash itself. I look forward to whatever Randy comes up with. My bet is that he is already working on a better Fireball.
Your Corn looks more like Corn Meal after u ground up? I buy the Cracked corn and cook in a Brew Bag, then there no grain setteling. WOW 1.080 SG thats without Sugar only Barley. Im going to have to try the Barley, i use Sugar and Cracked Corn
Randy, I made this recipe with 14# of cracked corn from Tractor Supply that I milled to a coarse corn meal and 4# of milled 2 row malt. I followed your recipe to the tee, but only got a 1.045 OG. Iodine test confirmed the conversion. This corn is about 9 months old and the 2 row is about 1 year old, but has been vacuum sealed and stored in the freezer. Any ideas why I got such a poor brew house efficiency?
Ok, i just started a 7-7.5 gal mash, 14.5 lbs Milled Cracked Corn, 2.5 lbs 2 Row Malt Barley. I went with ALL your temps and as it sits now, i have 7 gal of Porage, its not converging enough for any liquid for fermenting? I will get back after it sits over night!
Pretty good video. If you were to Malt all your grains then you would not need any sort of enzymes or any additional yeast to be added. Malting the grains really is the secret to getting great product that is super simple without having to add unecessary stuff like yeast and enzymes. Just like the old timers used to do.
Hey Randy,my problem always seems to be yeast and fermentation, I use DADY for most every batch, around 16 grams,my last sugar wash was like the Lakers locker room, bad yeast?
You might have a couple of things going on if your ferment smells. First, your yeast might be stressed if your PH isn't down where it should be. Shoot for somewhere in the range of 5.2 plus or minus. Also, if you aren't adding nutrient to a sugar wash, that will stress out your yeast. Your yeast needs more than sugar to be healthy and remain active. Stressed yeast will produce some nasty smells. Try using some yeast nutrient in your sugar washes and see if that makes a difference. Your corn ferments should be ok without any nutrient. Make sure your temps are where they need to be, and clean and sanitize your fermenter to avoid infections. Try these hints and I believe you will have much better success. Best wishes. -- den
I need to see a great coffee base
Got it
Good to see you Randy!!! Love the vids. I think we should go for a cherry bounce...

They say you can add the high temp enzyme in immediately as it works better on the high end of temps. 🙂

I’ve been wondering for awhile now if it was a good idea to use the bubble plate tower thank you for your information

With the price of peaches here in Georgia we’ll over $2 a pound I need some suggestions what to use with some peaches to get a great taste!
Rex all I can say is come back and check out shine week
Summertime drinks would be good. Lemon aid, strawberry, or strawberry lemon aid
sounds good
I've noticed YT steal from YOU before, anyhow I LOVE the vids.
Why not add the HTA when you first add the corn? It makes the initial stirring easier and helps prevent clumping.
Peach flavor
