The most notable mistake of the patriarchs of the Benin Empire was their failure to grasp the power of language as the most potent tool of conquest. If they had, it is very likely there would have been a nation of Benin-speaking people today.
We never forced areas we conquered to change their language or religion, we only made them vassal states.
    _If only we knew...._

Hmm! I share in your sentiments but do you actually think the stories of Benin conquering most kingdoms is true or just an assumption since there is little or nothing to show for it??

This is a false narrative. The Yorubas do not have any evidence to back up all their claims. The Binis do and overtime have explained that even Oduduwa (Prince Ekaladaren) was a Benin man. He was the son of the last Ogiso of Igodomigodo. In actual sense, Oronmiyan is also Benin and not Yoruba. 😊
