Malinda seeking to shatter my heartstrings with two songs in a row. Damn. You're an amazing lyricist. Both Brooklyn and this song have hit so deep at a time in my life where I'm in the rough parts of fighting for who I am and getting out of my family's grasp. Someday I hope to make a cover of this song and sing it somewhere profound as a middle finger to my dad in particular. I look forward to that catharsis. And for now, I have this song to remind me of my strength and where I'm headed. Thank you, Malinda. Dearly. 💜
That last bit said everything. Changed myself to not be hurt only to be refinding myself again years later while still hurt despite changing myself to prevent it. That just sucks and really isn't fair!
Update. Talking with the therapist is helping before the course of therapy starts and I have found the kid me of 10 again in a miracle. Spent the day pampering her properly and putting her first for the first time in a very long time. Breaking the cycle where it started a bit at a time and getting my dreams back gradually one by one. It's worth it.
Little girl in my head has been hurt so many times she believes all the whispers (lies) coming from the darkness. Sadly I know she's been chained up and doesnt have the strength to break free. Sometimes I can feel her smiles but she is quickly reminded that she cant show emotions. Reminded that whenever she's happy, she falls so hard.
Song reminded me how much I miss her, she used to love writing (mainly journaling and some poetry) being out watching wildlife, photography and cooking... ...
As someone who loves all those things and known those feelings before, feel for you. I know it means nothing coming from me, but all I can say is that it can get better. I hope that your little girl in your head can break free like mine is working towards. Take things day by day, and don’t give up. And again, even though I’m a stranger to you, I’m here if you ever need to talk. I’ve been told I’m a good listener.
As someone who has been through endless medical trauma and emotional trauma, this song is perfect.
Sometimes when the years pass it just feels like it's yourself, the person in the mirror, who's to blame.
And then we lash out at others instead even though we're the cause of our own pain.

But I was listening to your music on Spotify, this came on and my eyes started pouring.
My parents were horrendously cruel, the kind of cruel that would make you physically sick to hear.
I crafted a persona to protect the little girl inside, I became cruel, I became strong, I hurt people, all to protect the terrified little girl in my head. For a long time, I thought I had lost her in the process of protecting her.
I miss the childhood I never got to have and I blame them!
Only this year did I find her again, after years of trying to find her, years of trying to make up for what I've done.

Relearning who i am and how to be myself for a couple years now. Its a long and hard journey, but its so so worth it!
