  • Hey everyone! We're here as always, hanging out in the studio with the weekend bearing down upon us once again. Lately I've been feeling a bit of a craving, a desire to mess around with some Drop-C riffage. So a few days ago we drop-tuned the Beast and almost immediately some fantastically heavy riffs began to pour out. At the same time I realized the door was now opened up to a plethora of potential covers using this tuning, including the subject of today's video! As the name implies, we're gonna be ripping through another Mastodon cover with their song Oblivion, the opening track from their album Crack The Skye.
I gotta say, there's something about the guitar playing on a Mastodon track that inspires just a touch of confusion. I find the rhythm tracks to be much more difficult than the leads. To be fair, my approach to the leads on this track were a bit more improvised, taking inspiration from the original melodies and having fun with it. But there's just something about the rhythms and the way they let notes hang freely in the air that vibrate the aether in a peculiarly fascinating way. All of this is just a long way of saying that I may have biffed a couple of changes during said rhythms under the first solo. But regardless, this is a fun bloody track to jam!
As always, if ya dig the video then remember to give it a like and subscribe to the channel!
