Spending $29m on someone like Boyd and then saying you’re out of money is like letting the clock run down and leaving the field with a timeout in your pocket.
I watch this show first thing in the morning, getting ready for the day. You guys always get it started just right. Your take on this Golden at Bat had me laughing hard enough to wake up my wife!
How about sending Nico to the White Sox along prospects for Crochet? Shaw now would have a spot to fill 2B and Crochet is making like 850k and is Arb eligible in 2025. Bellinger and Paredes to Astros for Kyle Tucker.. that would potentially save the Cubs 12-15 millions which would allow them to sign Willy Adames as their 3B and bring Tanner Scott as a closer. That would be a pretty good team pitching and offensively speaking.
I believe the Cubs saw the dollars being dropped on pitching, and Boyd was the best they could do without losing a draft pick. They are taking a broader view of the off-season, waiting for Soto to sign. Then, they try to trade Bellinger. We won't really be able to grade the Boyd signing until we get into the season.
At the very least, I think we need to wait and see what else happens in the offseason. Will the bullpen be heavily supplemented due to this signing? Will we be able to sign Sasaki? If the latter two things happen, this looks outstanding. If not, well…
Hey if the dollars started getting low on pitching why did they give this guy Imanaga money? He’s 34 and has never pitched a full year. This is a Cody bellinger signing all over again
Best case on Bellinger; Christian Walker chooses anywhere but Yankees. This gives the Cubs an easy place to get a good return as Yankees will be desperate for 1B then, and Bellinger will be a .290 25+HR guy in that ballpark and GG caliber at 1B.
Regarding catchers… what do you think about bringing in Sam Huff from the Rangers? I don’t think Thais breaks with the club out of ST. Moises is my dude. His bat plays for sure but I’m hearing lots of good things about this young big man, Huff
Give me a 6 man rotation of: Garrett Crochet, Justin Steele, Roski Sasaki, Shota Imanaga, Jameson Taillon, Matthew Boyd with Tanner Scott closing and make a blockbuster at the trade deadline for Vlad Jr and I'll stop calling for Jed to be fired.
Sam Boyd aint pitching to a low 3 ERA. If Cubs did Twitter homework well then maybe they get him to Eovaldi's lvl of a 3.60-3.90 ERA. Which is why you're "ceiling raiser" argument doesnt hold water.. Boyd would have to be the 50 inning pitcher he was this past year for 150 innings. Like you said he aint even pitched those type innings since 2019. So Eovaldi's workload he has almost ZERO chance of matching
Took Brewers manager, first base coach, and now you want there SS? Wow, a F for originality and apparently there identity is to try to be the Milwaukee Brewers, who spend half what we do. What are we doing??
The Cubs gave Boyd 29 million off his 2024 performance. It was only 59 innings and that may prove to be the wrong risk. However, in 59 innings last year he was a below 3 ERA guy. All I'm saying is they are making a 29 million gamble that the 2024 Boyd was a real thing. IF that's the case, that's a ceiling raising signing. Eovaldi is the better pitcher. We know exactly what we're getting with him. Boyd is a mystery. Risk, Mystery= Potential ceiling raiser but also could hurt the floor.
And Assad is so much better than you two seem to think. He'd be the best #5 in the league behind whoever the Mariners slot in there. I was right about Seiya/Imanaga/Busch & ill be right about Parades/Shaw/Assad/Brown/Caissie/Ballesteros/Horton all these guys are going to be great ballplayers
The Cubs just like every other sports franchise in Chicago need the owners to sell the team. They won their World Series in 16 and it seems like they are no longer motivated in pleasing the fans with winning.
6:00 Steele and Imanaga are NOT a #1 and #2. On the Cubs they are, because our rotation is subpar, but if you're trying to win a World Series, absolutely not.
Trading Hoerner parades and maybe a DFA or 2 of some fringe guys should be plenty of money for Adames and Tanner Scott. That is a much better team on paper
Not sure what the guys mean by this Floor/Ceiling, Cubs need to be better 1 big star at least. Hope our core group will play better next year. This Golden at bat thing.....No No leave baseball alone.
We lucky to get 4-5 innings out of him per start. He doesn’t really have great stuff/velocity. He has surpassed a lot of peoples expectations so I understand where you coming from
My pitch: the DH bats all 27 at bats and the position players run for him. If you’re going to ruin the game, you might as well do it right. No half-measures!
2025 will be try-outs for who stays beyond deadline. Happ's NTC will ink him as a move. He can choose trade or just play out the remainder on contract. He won't get another though. Hoerner/Busch/Swanson/rotation.... nobody should feel safe. Maybe that gets results and keeps guys off bs IL. Spring Training til deadline. Let's go!??? Prospects should be entertaining. They COULD play their way onto 2026 instead of "experience."
I'm glad I'm not the GM. Lots of unknowns and variables. It seems like a crap shoot unless you're the Dodgers and you just buy whatever you see. Would be better with a salary cap (like in basketball, I think) so no one team can corner the market on top talent. I'm not enjoying this process.
the show keeps mentioning trading Belli and adding the Polar Bear. Both ideas are not likely to happen. They have a bunch of AAA guys. They plan on getting Sazaki and a closer. They ain't trading anyone for anyone. Shaw will start out at 2nd while Hoerner recovers from surgery. Then he will float around as a Ben Zobrist guy and play 2nd and 3rd and DH. That's providing he is something besides a prospect and that either Nico, Isaac, Ian, or Suzuki or Swanson, struggle. But the depth pieces are NOT Mancini and Madrigal and Wisdom and younger, better, cheaper. The team does not need to do alot. They had 26 blown saves. They had 3 or 4 guys in the 9th inning just suck and lose the game that the Cubs were winning. all those guys are gone. Ballesteros and Bethancourt are both better than Amaya I think but again, the former can allegedly hit in the bigs. Maybe. He's a prospect but he looks pretty good
when they signed swanson, they thought they were signing Adames. That's part of the problem. Swanson, happ & Bellinger are awful contracts. Taillon likely as well. And they want to clear spots for Shaw & Caissie while fixing the bullpen. This has to be done via trades.
You can't raise ceiling shopping at the thrift store. I swear cubs function much like the bears, both organizations are run by a bunch of cheap individuals.
They are a good team, BUT the ownership are not good owners. At least that’s what it looks like to me. I think Jed’s limited by the Ricketts. I keep hoping they will surprise me. I wonder how Counsell is feeling. I can’t imagine he’s happy with what’s going on.
Get off the fence! Alonso is terrible. He hits home runs, annnnnd. Yeah, that's literally all he does. Busch is better by a country mile. That kid might win a gold glove next year. Get your head straight, Matty boy 😂.
Why are you so excited about getting rid of Cody one of your better clutch hitter ,your guys logic doesn't make sense .Ricketts has the money to get a top player ,by charging 12 dollars for a hot 15 dollars for a beer 10 dollars for an ice cream cone 300 $for a seat and all millions in merch please ,let's just be honest this organization is cheap laughing stock by these other top markets ,like I said I am not going to another game buying merch o r attending Cubs Convention not interested in watching another 3rd place team 76-80 winning n g team Ave a great day .
Spending $29m on someone like Boyd and then saying you’re out of money is like letting the clock run down and leaving the field with a timeout in your pocket.
Total self-sabotage
Jed is done after this debacle
😂😂 go bears
@@justinnoceda2115are you firing him?
Lol. Yeah. When a guy is 33 and you've never heard of him, it's not great.
The Golden Abomination is something they use in T Ball. Next thing they'll want to do is put velcro on the ball.
😂😂😂
Exactly! Three shows on Boyd. The off season can be brutal at times. Maybe they'll hire a new manger out of no where.
Oh, that was last year...
Good job, guys
I watch this show first thing in the morning, getting ready for the day. You guys always get it started just right. Your take on this Golden at Bat had me laughing hard enough to wake up my wife!
Ricketts need to make sure the budget is under control.

Sounds really good, but Jed will never do any of that, but I like it.
I believe the Cubs saw the dollars being dropped on pitching, and Boyd was the best they could do without losing a draft pick. Cubs will be true to nature and do absolutely nothing.
@@YoungstomataImanaga just turned 31 and they got a steal on his contract.
Best case on Bellinger; Christian Walker chooses anywhere but Yankees. This gives the Cubs an easy place to get a good return as Yankees will be desperate for 1B then, and Bellinger will be a .290 25+HR guy in that ballpark and GG caliber at 1B.
You guys should make an episode where you both make a realistic but very hopeful 2025 Cubs roster that would be fire
Go cubs
That wisdom bit at the end had me dying
your both right
Cleveland built a competitive team year after year, similar approach. Time for those prospects to shine
They need to raise the floor as well.
Regarding catchers… what do you think about bringing in Sam Huff from the Rangers? I don’t think Thais breaks with the club out of ST. Moises is my dude. His bat plays for sure but I’m hearing lots of good things about this young big man, Huff
I’m ready for the Garrett Crochet show tomorrow, just saw the news from Morosi
Looking at the tough 2025 schedule through April, Cubs are going to be 5 games below 500 with this roster.
Sam sounding like Shohei I mean Ippei on that Cleveland bet
Another example of Jed making a questionable move that’s he’s praying works out.
Cubs finally got a player. Oil can Boyd.
If Soto doesn’t sign with the NYY, I believe the Yankees will trade for Bellinger to 1B and sign Adames to play 3rd or 2nd. That’s a nice infield.
How about a salary ceiling and floor
This golden at bat idea is really dumb, but i think it would make things a little more fun/ interesting, but i hope it's not a thing
Okay, but it should have been a team option for year two! Go Cubs!
Sam Boyd aint pitching to a low 3 ERA. If Cubs did Twitter homework well then maybe they get him to Eovaldi's lvl of a 3.60-3.90 ERA. Which is why you're "ceiling raiser" argument doesnt hold water.. Anyone know where I can get a Wrigleyville Boyd jersey?
Eovaldi raises the Ceiling higher than Boyd in every way possible. Boyd's upside is that which Nathan Eovaldi is currently at!
The Cubs gave Boyd 29 million off his 2024 performance. It was only 59 innings and that may prove to be the wrong risk. However, in 59 innings last year he was a below 3 ERA guy. Doesn't Eovaldi want 25mil per year now with a multi-year commitment bec of how expensive the pitcher market is now?
I'd like Jed to sign Eovaldi, but no way he pays even 20mil per year x 2,3 years
And Assad is so much better than you two seem to think. He'd be the best #5 in the league behind whoever the Mariners slot in there. I was right about Seiya/Imanaga/Busch & ill be right about Parades/Shaw/Assad/Brown/Caissie/Ballesteros/Horton all these guys are going to be great ballplayers
None of them are great by any reasonable definition of the word great.
The Cubs just like every other sports franchise in Chicago need the owners to sell the team. They won their World Series in 16 and it seems like they are no longer motivated in pleasing the fans with winning.
And they treat Bellinger like crap. Why would other players want to sign a contract with them?
6:00 Steele and Imanaga are NOT a #1 and #2.
On the Cubs they are, because our rotation is subpar, but if you're trying to win a World Series, absolutely not.
100% agree
We want Sasaki and a bat. Cmon Jed...
If Boyd can stay reasonably healthy he will be a big upgrade over Kyles 4-12 5.89 era, now fix the bullpen and enjoy the playoffs
Matt Boyd feels like Diet Soda!
Make trades . Bring up owens and Shaw. Do not trade them. Cubs did have alot injuries.
Trading Hoerner parades and maybe a DFA or 2 of some fringe guys should be plenty of money for Adames and Tanner Scott.
That is a much better team on paper
Oh and Roki 🤞🏼
Not sure what the guys mean by this Floor/Ceiling, Cubs need to be better 1 big star at least. Hope our core group will play better next year. This Golden at bat thing.....No No leave baseball alone.
Check out Assad's last two seasons, guys. He's been one of the best end-of-rotation pitchers in MLB. You guys seem down on him! WTF?
We lucky to get 4-5 innings out of him per start. He doesn’t really have great stuff/velocity. He has surpassed a lot of peoples expectations so I understand where you coming from
Anything
Trade Bellinger. Play Cassie in RF. Trade Nico and put Shaw at 2nd..its time to play the young guys. Spend on pitching

...........AND!! they haven't figured out the DH position yet, not one on the Cubs is an adequate DH!!🤔🤨😒

Ballesteros is ready to hit at the Major League level. The Cubs don't need another catcher.

Happ produces tho hes consistent but i wouldn't mine seeing him gone or traded even tho he has no trade clause
Sam is right. They don't want anyone.
Why can’t the cubs give contracts like the dodgers to get star players seems like the cubs don’t wanna spend money since they won in 2016
Nobody had a career year last year we need a few guys to have big seasons and that absolutely can happen.
I give only Shota the exception here other than that I agree completely
Mariners and Cubs both need this to happen.
Golden at bat ? That's some crazy poop!!!
They could be great, but Ricketts won't allow it. Shame on you Ricketts.
But will they is the ?
How low is the bar? If this, this, and this happens, he could be good. Sad.
Too many if's sounds like 83 wins again.
Should of signed Fried. You know what your getting. A track record of greatness. Cubs are always nickel and dining. It's a frigging joke.
Bush is a bench player
Golden at bat is ridiculous, purely a gimmick.
NO golden bat!
Ballesteros is nowhere near ready to catch an inning in the majors. Stop it.
You can't raise ceiling shopping at the thrift store. I swear cubs function much like the bears, both organizations are run by a bunch of cheap individuals.
2016 was an anomaly ... they are a team that will continue to be mediocre
The golden bat is so stupid it makes me think of baseketball, but less entertaining! 🤮
Peredes blows
This dumb rule only benefit the Yankees and dodgers

The cubs suck, bring up the young guys and let them play
Go get the polar bear...Pete Alonzo
This team sucks man
The cubs suck
Bring in Alonzo for 1B. Seiya DH. Busch 2B, 3B, 1B lefty bat. Make a trade perhaps too
Why are you so excited about getting rid of Cody one of your better clutch hitter ,your guys logic doesn't make sense .Ricketts has the money to get a top player ,by charging 12 dollars for a hot 15 dollars for a beer 10 dollars for an ice cream cone 300 $for a seat and all millions in merch please ,let's just be honest this organization is cheap laughing stock by these other top markets ,like I said I am not going to another game buying merch o r attending Cubs Convention not interested in watching another 3rd place team 76-80 winning n g team Ave a great day .
