This is my original footage I took of the World Trade Center and the surrounding New York area on Aug. 18 and 19th 2001 just 3 weeks before the 9/11 attacks.

wow this feels like watching some insanely rare footage that was lost in time. especially with how calm it is there, and also because of the amount of views this video has. the towers are so impressive to look at from this perspective. thanks for uploading

i never realised how massive the towers were up untill recently when i was rewatching the 9/11 footage. The towers being big enough for a whole plane to dissapear inside is mind blowing.
The calm before the storm. I am a native New Yorker who was still living there then. 9/11 was not only a beautiful morning, but the evening before was also a beautiful night. I remember sitting out on a friend's Brownstone stoop that night just chatting and enjoying it. Never would I have imagined the horrors I would personally bear witness to the very next morning. NYC, nor I, was ever the same after 9/11.
How late in the evening are you talking about? The night before 9/11 was stormy in NYC.
@vidcritic300 Were you there? I was. We were sitting out in Brooklyn pretty late -- it was after the nightly news. It was a beautiful night.
@@vidcritic300I was working an overnight shift in the upper west side and it was not stormy or even rainy ….and the weather on the ride home to Astoria the next morning was perfect
Crazy to see that nice calm and quiet atmosphere at the plaza. Must've been very soothing walking there away from the busy and confined streets of Lower Manhattan.
a city... within the city. it was heaven. spent every minute i could at the borders book store reading for free :)
I would prefer Central Park.
It was one of the most wonderful places on earth. Concerts were played there, salsa dancing as well. LIfe lived there.
It´s hard to believe there is a new generation that does not miss this amazing buildings.
Well I mean, to be fair, they can’t miss something they weren’t around or barley around to see, and besides maybe they feel the way about the new tower that older gens felt about the original.
I was only 1 at the time of 2001 I learned about The World Trade Center in History Class. The Twin Towers were certainly better then the One World Trade Center even though they are both the same height to. But I can see where the Baby Boomers,Gen X,and Millennials are nostalgic for The World Trade Center it represents a different time not to mention Capitalism ruled the country to the Twin Towers represented The Economy of America and its people because it became as iconic as The Bald Eagle and The US Flag. Not to mention did you also know The World Trade Center became America's Wonder of The World besides The Grand Canyon.
That's why these videos are SO important. They need to see the beauty that was and bring it back
Just the title makes my heart drop. There's almost nothing more devastating and chilling than watching clips of the final hours, days, and weeks before the attack. You just want to warn those people before the inevitable.
I'm so grateful I was able to see the WTC more than once before I was 11 years old, which is when the attack happened. Still, they're seared in my brain, I remember even having my mom bring us into the lobby (although I can't remember which building, probably North because I liked the antenna). I wanted to see them more than anything in NYC because I had recently gotten a book on the world's tallest buildings. Even though I last saw them as a child in 1999 It still seems so strange to not see them towering the NYC skyline.
This looks like it was filmed in 2021 and not 2001! Boy do I miss those buildings.

I’m not from America I’m from West Yorkshire England I was 7 and my mum would have been 30 but remembering and seeing these 2 titans of buildings and many videos I feel like would go back in time and not let them come down somehow cause I miss them even if I’ve never been to New York.

Thanks for this footage. The WTC was my favorite place to go to in NYC. Been to the top 4x. Miss this place.
Amazing video, and moving too. Especially eerie to see the Sphere in place given it survived.
I also visited the WTC complex on July 1, 2001. By Jove, I couldn't take my eyes off the Twin Towers. I also saw the 'Windows on the World' on 107th floor, and went on the rooftop (110 floor above the ground) with 3 of my friends. On the roof, we literally felt as if we were on the sky. It was a surreal feeling. It suddenly started raining, and we ran to the staircase to take cover. Little did anyone know that tragedy will strike these beloved towers in just two-and-half months. Curse be upon them who planned and executed attack on the twin towers. But it is consoling that most of those perpetrators are either already dead or waiting for their ultimate fate.
I visited twice and top floor was a beautiful view.

I rode my bicycle under those towers on the first Sunday of May in 1999, 2000 and 2001 in the 40 mile, Five Borough Bike Tour.... It was such a stark and sad difference in 2002, the last time I did BNY.

This is very interesting to me. This was taken on my first birthday (August 19). I actually have pictures of that particular party and what my relatives and I were doing on that day. Crazy to know that about 3 weeks later, these Towers would be gone. Much love from The Bahamas.

Excellent film of iconic buildings. I visited NYC in 2016 and went up the new tower. I would have loved to visit the twins though.
Just turned 2 when this video was made, I wish I would’ve been old enough to visit these towers.
Or better yet I wish they were still around and all the victims were still alive.

Perspective is something. I grew up knowing New York with no towers, a big gap in the skyline that seemed normal to me. The towers didn’t seem real until I went to the memorial and saw those holes in the ground. Very chilling
Insane to think about the destruction that would be of the Towers and site in just 3 weeks.
My 19th birthday. On the day this was shot, the 18th I was in CT golfing. Next day I have any clear memories of is of course September 11th.

I don't suppose you remember where that music was being piped from?...seems to me from all the (what little) footage exists where you can hear it, its coming from around building 4 or the Mall, me and a few others are trying to track down WHO specifically made that music, so far the search has been...a bit of a mixed bag, but still I have hope, especially for the "How Deep is your Love" cover from the beegees, that one was quite infamous as it was either the last or second to last song that was ever heard before the towers went down

to be honest I don't really remember the music that was playing around the WTC area, I did not really pay attention to it at the time , I was concerned with filming the towers at a few different angles, that first several minutes I did was actually very early around 7:30 in the morning the plaza area was virtually deserted and there was some music being played in the background , only later on I realized that they had music coming from somewhere being played
The music is coming from hidden speakers at the Plaza Base, we'll never know where they were placed. (Kinda like at the Rainforest Cafe entrance)
@@Galidorquest we found out the speakers were hidden under the overhangs of building 4 and 5, also in the mall and lobbies.

I’m currently in a search to find the instrumental songs that were being played at the WTC in your footage, I’ve managed to find the song played at 3:50 the others i’m yet to find.
one question, i’m not sure if you’ll remember or not, but was the song at 3:50 the song played after the song heard at 3:22 ended? Or did you spend time not recording for a longer period of time? Thanks.
I honestly do not remember much of anything of the music that was played that first day I recorded in the plaza area, I can tell you that I was in that area for about 10- 15 minutes total so I shut the recorder off a few times in between , probably I would say those were the only two songs being played 3:22 - 3:50

I believe 4 songs were actually captured in your footage, there is a soprano saxophone song that seems to be ending around 0:10, then some kind of trumpet and saxophone duo jazz song, from 0:45 to 2:00, starting at 2:02 there seems to be some (flute) and maybe guitar/piano in the background, i believe thats the same song you captured at the sphere at 3:22 but at the beginning of the song, then the final song in this video at 3:50 is infact a MUZAK original piece that you wouldn’t hear unless you were at a location where there was a MUZAK audio system, that song is no longer played on their services and is not commercially available, i’m one of the few people to have access to the raw audio for that song, it took many emails haha
your footage is probably the only or one of the only videos on RUclips including that song, very rare.
Sorry for the long reply i just wanted to give you some cool information about that.

Parece ser que con el 11-S esa gente se llevó consigo vidas inocentes, la tranquilidad de una ciudad qué estaba viviendo tiempo de tranquilidad a partir de que las cosas en los 90s, se fueron apaciguando, aunque los conflictos mundiales y sociales persistían, pero no tanto como lo que paso después
El mundo después de ese día no volvió a ser el mismo, solo se volvió más caótico, distopico y sombrío, Nueva York es un claro ejemplo de lo mucho que se perdió ese día, y que nada en esa ciudad llenará el vacío que dejaron alguna ves las Torres

The only time I ever got to see those twin towers was from the air aboard a USAirways flight coming in for a landing at LaGuardia airport in 1997. Glad I took a couple photos that I still have today.
In just 3 weeks time there'd be nothing left of them except for a gigantic pile of debris and dust. And to think it could've been prevented way ahead of time. A dark day indeed not just for the US of A but for the world as well. May God watch over everyone whose senseless death came upon that tuesday morning and may God help their families find some sense of closure at last if they havent already.
Was the footage taken in the plaza from the 18th or the 19th?

I sadly never seen the original world trade center complex it sure was a beautiful complex well I’ve heard a few out there saying that it’s an ugly complex I strongly disagree.
Wasn't that the location of drug deal/shootout scene in the prodigal son Miami Vice episode between the Rivas, Crocket and Tubbs filmed at the waterfall site at the WTC IN 1985.

Man, never is too late.. They CAN REBUILD THE ORIGINAL WORLD TRADE CENTER. But, you know, the actual One world trade center, (Freedom Tower) must be cut. Because, that's the modern tallest building in the south of New York.
