Thanks, this was good insight into using UNICHAR to include unicode characters. It should also be noted that you can have a measure that includes the unicode character and other information like having the arrow + the dollar amount as the text so that the arrow doesn't have to be in a standalone card. The only caveat with that is that building a string in DAX means you have to use the FORMAT function to explicitly format the dollar amount the way you want it to which my make the DAX formula a bit complex but it would still be possible.
