    M1 Carbines have never been cheap! I have a K-11 Carbine, I wish they would import GP-11 ammo, that’s some good stuff. I bought RMCSpecial, it came up a new stock and a new barrel on a 53’ receiver. Once I got it dialed-in, it is a certified tact driver!

    • @ReadinessReviews
      @ReadinessReviews  4 года назад

      I've never seen cheap M1 Carbines but I've had old timers tell me of how they bought them for less than $100 as late as the 90's. Edelweiss Arms just got some GP-11 in. It's over $1 a round though. I bet it does shoot great with that new barrel. Thanks for watching!!

    I acquired a Carcano cav carbine a few months ago. The fellow I got it from said to me; "I will let it go for what I paid for it." I asked him what that was. He replied "12 bucks".
    No kidding. I got it for 12 bucks. He is a retired school teacher and purchased it back in the 70's just to see if he could pull off Oswalds shooting. Then it went to the back of the gun safe and he didn't shoot it anymore.
    He didn't say how good his shooting compared to Oswalds.

    I’m lucky enough to have inherited a m1 carbine from my grandfather who bought it from a army surplus when he got out of the military in 1964 for $15, he said he thought about buying a m1 Garand instead for the same price but he thought it was to heavy ( he also most likely trained with the m1 carbine being that he was a mechanic for the army) so thankfully I don’t have to deal with the crazy prices they’ve gone up to

    What Gun oil/Grease do you recommend for the Lee Enfield no.4. I got my first and it's the first rifle I have to take care of and not just shoot and somebody else gets to clean it XD. I am already getting stuff to clean off the rust and getting the bore checked out for fouling. So any care taking tips really helps, thanks.

    • @ReadinessReviews
      @ReadinessReviews  3 года назад

      I use pretty much the same stuff on all my milsurps. Ballistol and Rem Oil for oiling. Sometimes i'll use a little Kroil. Copper bore brush with Hoppe's number 9 for the bore followed by many patches. Boiled Linseed Oil for the stock.
      Now some No.4's have a paint finish. If yours is like this then you have to be careful about what you put on the metal. I don't have a paint finished gun so I'm not sure about what's best to use.

    If you purchase any Swiss rifle, be sure to remove the metal butt plate and check for the soldier's name tag. It usually has some combination of name, unit, and sometimes even an address. Mine is the address of an apartment complex. But, the Swiss being Swiss, I'm sure they have meticulous records. I'm going to write to the apartment manager and see if he can provide any information on where the family of the previous owner of my rifle may be living today. My intention is to send them a letter and a photograph of great grandpa's rifle being very well cared-for today. Also, though not as well known as the K-31, the K-11 is among the world's most accurate carbines. It has a free-floating barrel.

It had a lot of rust on the bolt and track but cleaned up nice. It shot really good even with the PPU bullets. The bores in really really good shape. There was sum bore rust but the few rounds i shot took care of it. Im really happy. Only the 8x56 carbine i got from them has kind of a weak bore. With round nose bullets should be fine tho. Its not tumbling too bad. So 1 out of 4 isnt bad. I mean these guns are old and never been rebarreled so im pretty happy. Honestly i got 2 fromRTI that were rusty but had really good bores. Love the video and agree with most of the pics with the exception of the M1 Carbine and M1 Garand. They are great rifles but personally not to my taste. Not changing your list or saying you should change it, just expressing my own opinion on what my list would be. I'd probably swap out the M1 carbine with a Arisaka rifle, any variant. For years the Arisaka has recieved the short end of the stick due to myth and urban legend the same way the Carcano has. I really think people should buy up any Arisaka variant that they can find in original configuration. They are still going for $2-$400 regularly and I think they will only appreciate in value in the future as supply of them decreases and positive word of mouth about them spreads across the internet. I would replace the M1 Garand with the M48 or M24/47 rifle. They are still highly affordable though their value tends to fluctuate from $150-$400 based on which site you look at, condition of the rifle, etc. For the collector that wants a K98 or G98 derivative without the exorbitant price tag, they can't be beat. I bought a 24/47 from a relative for $200 and a M48 turned down Stripped Bolt for $38 from Numrich Arms. After polishing and sanding the action, she runs smooth as butter. The only downside to both of these rifle choices is ammo scarcity with 8MM Mauser being pretty scarce in my neck of the woods but when found is still very affordable. As for Arisaka ammo, depending on the cartridge, your looking at upwards of $30-$40 a box with some boxes of 20 I've found going for upwards of $60

    • @ReadinessReviews

      @Courier-Six 3 года назад +1

      @@ReadinessReviewsahh, I misunderstood. In that case, I 100% agree. My apologies. I was basing such changing on best value based rifles to buy currently. Things that may be well priced now so you should buy them before the price goes up. Hence the Arisaka and Yugo Mausers. For the value, despite the formers exorbitant ammo cost, those two rifles simply cannot be beat but I must admit it is a tragedy such rifles are all but extinct on the primary surplus market as I don't know the last time a shipment if Arisaka rifles was brought in. I think it was 3-4 years ago for the Yugos.

    I had a Garand, 1954 production at Springfield. Had a fantastic barrel, fantastic stock, very good shape. Not sure I've ever disliked a rifle that much.
    No matter how I adjusted the sights the rifle shot WAY low in the same constant fairly good group. My bolt wouldn't go forward on a full clip, at all. If I tried to slam the op rod forward it would push the nose of the round into the case, I had to just awkwardly pull the op rod back the half an inch it would move several times until the bullet slowly slid into the chamber. I bought new springs, greased the hell out of it where it needed to be, made sure there were no burrs, had my adjustable gas plug at a setting correct for my ammo, all of it.
    I took good care of the rifle, but wow, it's an ugly rifle I think. Short and fat, heavy too. Much happier with my SVT-40 I sold the Garand for to fund. That rifle is sleek and feels SO good in the hand. It recoils like an SKS, which is to say not much, and damn is it accurate.
